Pass The Mic: NBA Summer League Live Blog
Michael BeasleyWe’ve been trying to watch the live-streaming NBA summer league action from Orlando today, but with the Internet in the office acting up, it’s been near impossible. However, it seems like a lot of you out there have been able to watch the games with no problem, so for the rest of Monday’s schedule — including the upcoming Bulls/Heat game pitting Derrick Rose against Michael Beasley — in true Dime Pass the Mic mode we want to get your take on what’s happening on the court. Scouting reports, quick observations, X’s and O’s breakdowns…basically we’re asking you guys to live-blog the summer league as it happens. We’ll be keeping track and will run some of the better notes in tomorrow’s Smack.

July 7th, 2008 at 5:59 pm

Rose just drobbled the ball off his foot and then fell over!! Smoooooth!!
July 7th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
Eazy-Yi says:
Woah Beasley was apparently listening to his iPod hahahaa. He looked uglier than Joakim when he was actually playing
July 7th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
maddskizzle says:
Based on this game I would of thought Mario Chalmers was the 1st pick and DRose the 2nd rounder
July 7th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Eazy-Yi says:
Woah, how quick does D-Rose get up the floor? He needs a solid wing to dish to, these guys are just awful.

NBA Summer League: where
“nice look for marco killingsworth. Ball hit him in the face and out of bounds”

July 7th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
sunni says:
mario chalmers is legit…a D-fender…hes gonna slow down every point guard in the eastern conference..beasley is a beast when in the game..
July 7th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
kobeef says:
the announcers are kinda funny. the game action is sloppy so they gotta do something to keep it fun.
July 7th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
sunni says:
pretty much every team is gonna regret passing on chalmers…the guy is the only one in the game besides beasley who looks like a playoff baller
July 7th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
R.O.B says:
34-47 to the Heat at the half! Beasley looking good in the first qtr! Rose cant get it going!!
July 7th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
nick says:
chalmers was slept on in the draft. he is a quality guard who hits 3’s and plays solid defense and gets his teammates involved. He along with rose and beasley are the only players that actually look like they belong in the league.
July 7th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
Ashlov says:
Beasley is a total package, man.
July 7th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
Ashlov says:
Joakim Noah was a waste of a lottery pick.
July 7th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Kudabeen says:
Demitrious Nichols looks even better this year. He isn’t just taken Js.
Beasley Game transfers well to the Summer League (check)
He is given it to Noah and Thomas, is that saying much? Aside from that his J is smooth and it is eveident that his game is certified.
July 7th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Kudabeen says:
Chalmers and Artur from Kansas were slept on. People take all this time to evaluate and still miss.
July 7th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
Kudabeen says:
I thought Josh Duncan was going to have a better showing than is having. I thought he was going to be a Ryan Gomes type player, but so far…Nah
July 7th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Godemus says:
“I don’t think Aaron Gray has practiced since last Summer League.” priceless
July 7th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Kudabeen says:
Bulls have guys playing who actually started in the NBA last year and they are down 53-73 as we speak with Beasley and Chalmers doing what they want. Chalmers is aggressive and attacking Rose. He tried to throw one down on an explosive drive. Gotta like that.
Outside of Chalmers and Beasley is anyone else on the Heat’s Summer League making the squad? Padgett might, because he is a big body that is fundamental, but he hasn’t shown much. Maybe Kaseem Powell?…
July 7th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Kudabeen says:
Cedric Simmons is playing for the Bulls and Marco Killingsworth had more playing time then him. Has every given up on him already?
Oh by the way he just ate Beasley’s attempted dunk…
That’s why I don’t respect a lot of teams in the L. They draft these guys on potential, but don’t do the work to develop that potential. You trade a guy like Cedric to a team that has no invested intent to see him succeed and he regresses from the lack of consistency in coaching or playing time. Then he is traded again and now is seen officially as a “journeymen” young guy that just hasn’t developed.
He should be getting minutes and encouragement. He is a freak athlete who can rebound and block shots. Develop that and teach him some moves. Chicago needs all the big bodies they could get. Tyrus looks like he is trying to be a SF in the league.
Josh Duncan just got another weak attempt ATE…
Jason Richardson (Davidson) could be an upgrade from Chris Quinn…
July 7th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Kudabeen says:
70 - 94 Miami
Beasley 28pts
I thought Rose would impose his will, but I guess coaches just want them to run their stuff. Can’t ball with handcuffs on. Hope Vinny doesn’t over coach Rose to try to elevate his status as a good coach.
July 7th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Ashlov says:
Mario Chalmers just may end up starting for the Heat.
July 7th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Kudabeen says:
Mario should start or at least get a fair look. He reminds my of Rondo, but with a consistent Stroke. Rondo is more of a risk taker and has longer arms to disrupt, but if I was the Bobcats and thought I wanted a PG, Chalmers should have been that guy…Don’t know what Bobcats were thinking in this draft…
July 7th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Stiletto says:
Beasley destroyed the bulls and the bulls were playing with there designated front court of noah and thomas man it looks like another lottery pick for the bulls this year but it looking real good for the heats if they can fill up there roster decently with beasly it looks like they hit the jackpot and Mario looked really really good against Rose
July 7th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
doc says:
Calm down on Chalmers yall.He might start ONLY because his team aint got no points. But I seen Raja Bell average 30 in leagues like this.Everybody learning they team style.Beasly just gonna score regardless,he puts the ball in the bucket.
July 7th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Ocka says:
In this day and age, how are we not watching these games high quality fullscreen? Sheeeeet, at least 640×480. Not the League’s finest hour.
July 7th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Buffalo Brave says:
Michael BUCKETS Beasley
Pat Riley was probably laughing everytime beasley touched the ball while paxson was simultaneously shitting his pants.
Chalmers was the steal of the draft it looks like.
And those announcers while they are terribly annoying at times are also incredibly hilarious at times too.
July 7th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Borgs says:
I never got the hype that some gave Aaron Gray as a potential NBAer last season. He’s slower than a frozen lizard and marginally more skillful. Maybe the rest of the Bulls were so bad (cough*Ben Wallace*cough) he compared awesomely, but if there’s a more likely career-long stiff, I haven’t seen him.
July 7th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
D'Antonio says:
Obviously, Chicago should have drafted Chalmers instead of Rose.
July 7th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
paxson says:
Do you think I can still get Chalmers for Rose straight up?
Maybe I can throw in Vinnie D as well
Relax! The Bulls are trying to learn a new offense with new coaches and a bunch of D leaguers. I told everyone draft day it will take time. Talk to me in a year. Rose is a SST running with air balloons by his side. Last summer league Thabo and Tyrus were all first team and look where it got them.
If Chalmers plays 7 mpg with the Heat this year it will be a miracle
July 7th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
paxson says:
And one other thing!
Beasley is a beast. And a great competitor, you dont think he wanted to look good today after going #2.
Like Joakim and TT give a crap in a summer league game they didnt even have to play.
We are still a lottery team but well work it out and pick up D Wade when he opts out of Miami and comes home to Chi Town
July 7th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
kobeef says:
Beasley again lived up to the hype leading the team in points and rebounds and hitting a 3 for good measure. Even with Oden back B’easy is taking Rookie of the Year hands down. The kid is a monster.
Rose seemed lost and just could not take over the game. Not a good look for the #1 pick. Westbrook actually played better than rose with 18 pts, 4rbs 5 asst and just one T.O. (Rose had 5). People were down on the Westbrook pick but this kid has the tools to be a solid pro.
July 7th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
J says:
I said it once I’ll say it again the number 1 pick should have been beasley hands down/
bulls lost smh. but so did the knicks lol so i don’t feel too bad
July 7th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Justin Solomon says:
I found the announcers to be quite funny as they picked up on stuff that fans already know. To prove my point, they ended the broadcast by asking, “Who is more disinterested in this game, us or Sean Williams?” Also lines such as “David Padgett? Not sure how he got into the starting line up or why he is even on the team?”, as well as countless references to Aaron Gray’s lack of talent and JamesOn Curry described as JamesOff Curry were comical. Looking forward to tomorrow’s action.

w says:
I was really shocked to see Chalmers outplay Rose. Not saying that he’s going to be better or close to Rose once the season starts, but as it’s been said it’s a good look for the Heat…
Oh and I actually enjoyed the announcer’s as well. Someone should email them to get a shout out for dime…
July 8th, 2008 at 4:04 am
Dave says:
Chalmers was impressive. He should start for Miami next season. He’s a great fit next to Wade with his defense, shooting and overall steady play.
July 8th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
Pskila says:
From a highlight standpoint Beasley clearly just was the best player in the game. Tyrus Thomas is like a 8th grader that got left back 3 times…lol…Joakim and Tyrus are a waste of picks for the Bulls. I see both them being traded before the end of the season. Hopefully the Bulls can pick up and swingman and post player to compensate for Derrick Rose’s speed….
