Paul Pierce Thinks Knicks Should Dump Stephon Marbury
Photo. G. LandPaul Pierce was asked what the Knicks should do with Steph and he answered honestly.
Here’s what he told the NY Daily News
“He makes the biggest contract, and he’s one of the oldest players on the team,” Pierce said yesterday. “That doesn’t really fit into a rebuilding plan, just to be honest.”
“I’d try to trade him or buy him out at this point,” added Pierce, who still believes Marbury can be a starting point guard in the NBA. “I just think he needs a fresh start somewhere else. Marbury needs to be on a veteran team where he fits into what they’re trying to do a little bit more.”

Truth says:
Marbury is crazy! Dude is off his rocker, I wouldn’t want dude in my locker room. I wouldn’t buy him out though. I would make the chump sit on the bench and not play just to kill his pride!! If I gotta pay him anyway, I might as well make his life miserable!

MJAX says:
Marbury is done!!! his mentals have always been in question. He should just go to Europe and play like he once told us all. He’s not a winner and a cancer!! What has he done anywhere at anytime in his tenure in the L?!?

Can anyone think of a team the Starbury fits in with? What team needs a gunning point guard with a shitty attitude? I understand that he has talent but the negatives outweigh the positives at this point.

I agreed Truth.. im a knicks fan and I say send him home tell him dont show up and just pay him the rest of his money.. let him try to find another contract next yr but i wouldnt buy him out and allow him to play for some other team on my salary..especially if he goes to some team in the east like miami .. I think Pierce is just talking hoping he end up with the Celts (if thats the case he’s dummer than i thought cause i wouldnt want him on my team)

Don’t let pierce fool u, they want marbury in boston, do any of you really believe rajon rondo is better than steph phucking marbury 20 and 8, period…he is a head case, but around a veteran team he’ll be fine a la rasheed, steph is a unique point guard and ill challenge anyone here no name a flaw in his game, including his defense which got way better under isiah…he can post,he is flawless off the pick and roll and he shoots the 3 with consistensy..he doesnt dominate the ball like ai either, stop feeding into the media and watch some tape folks..
people fail to remember the way he changed his game in his last 2 seasons for the team,he really became a facilitator the people around him just sucked…

marbury needs to go to a team where he is clearly not the best talent or the lone veteran. this so he can get his ego in check and not have the pressure of leading young guns. the guy is a talent, no one can deny that, so as long as he can play w/o having to be a leader/have a team depend on him, he’ll be worthwhile.
lakers would fit the bill according to my qualifications. kobe is the clearly the alpha male on that team, so marbs can just do his thing

Celts Fan, "Kobe, Tell me how my @$$ tastes" says:
NO. Don’t bring that dbag to Boston. If he comes here, I’ll KNOW there’s no God.
I think he’d be a good fit in an up-tempo system where he can run (NY doesn’t count, he needs a new team.) Could work as Nash’s backup in Phoenix and play some 2 guard too w/ Nash (it’s not like those guys play any D anyway. Imagine Nash, Marbury, Hill, Amare, and Shaq. That team would get buckets, with the backup lineup being Ty Lue/Steph, Raja Bell, Barbosa, Diaw, and Sideshow Lopez)

posible suitors
SA (he kill’s tony parker pop has to be taking a look)
orlando (Jameer Nelson is a solid career backup, steph has hof numbers)
detroit (play him behind stuckey and get a big for chuncey perfit fit for steph)
toronto (This team needs some toughness, find a newyorker fast)
LA (fisher’s on his way out, farmer is looking like a careeer backup)
Bos (rondo will eventually be back on the bench where he belongs, solid 1,2 punch)
cle (labron doesn’t want him thou)

Celts Fan, "Kobe, Tell me how my @$$ tastes" says:
@Justice, YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR DAMN MIND. “Rondo will eventually be back on the bench where he belongs?!?! Do you even watch basketball? He was the starting PG on the NBA Champs! He’s the best young PG in the league not named Deron or Chris. He’s a PHENOMENAL defender who’s got a good work ethic (as hard as it is to believe, his jumper was light years better this year, if he keeps working on it, it’ll be average within 3 seasons, then he’s close to unstoppable with his speed and passing ability too.) He needs to be a little more consistent, but as the jumper develops and he gets more experience (remember, he’s only a 21 year old, soon-to-be 3rd year guy) that’ll come.
In terms of the other teams you mentioned, he’d be a great fit in Cleveland and LA (though I think Farmar is better than you think.) It could work in SA, but I just don’t see them taking on a guy like him. Toronto just gave Calderon enough $ that he’s not being a backup, and Marbury will not be okay with backing him up (it’d be like TJ Ford, only MUCH WORSE.)
As far as Detroit goes, Steph would NEVER be okay backing up Stuckey. If they still had Chauncey, I could see it, but if your plan is to get Steph, trade Chauncey, and still bring Steph off the bench, you might as well just write up the Press Release for his suspension for conduct detrimental to the team and wait to fill in the date.

The Ebony Blur says:
Not for nothing, but a little over a year ago, Pierce made the most money on the Celtics, was one of the oldest guys on the team, and didn’t appear to fit into the Celtics’ rebuilding plan. If Danny didn’t kick the summer off by getting Ray Allen which eventually lured Ticket, PP almost certainly wouldn’t be on the C’s right now, but look what happened instead. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not at all saying I think anything close to what happened with the C’s is gonna happen with the Knicks, I’m just saying ish happens sometimes.

@ post 7 - I’d watch tape of Marbury, but it’s hard to find something that’s not 2 years old or older. Rondo’s got a chip and contributed big to the cause. If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were talkin bout Baron, CP3, Deron, CBills or Nash with the “flawless game” Marbury possesses. Dude is a career 32% three point shooter so what tape you watchin? Don’t believe the hype. Steph’s assists the last 5 seasons? 9.3, 8.1, 6.4, 5.4, 4.7. In 5 seasons, his assists have dropped by half. Stop livin in the past with this 20 and 8 stat.Dude hasn’t been relevant since 2004

Shuttlesworth says:
Pierce is being smart about the whole thing… He would never talk negatively about another player just for the heck of it. He’s doing his thing for the Celtics, recruiting…
The Celtics will need that backup (or new starter) at the PG spot, once Sam leaves. And they can get Steph at a very low cost after he gets bought out. Getting Steph meets a lot of their needs for the next season:
-He can run the point and handle the ball pressure, giving them two solid PGs (an issue whenever Rondo would sit)
-He can shift to the 2 spot to give Ray some rest, allowing you to run Rondo and Steph at the 1-2
-He’s low cost (after the buy-out), leaving enough space for that mid-level exception signee (Posey should stay!!!)
-He’s a proven scorer, giving the Celts that extar push of the bench… Defenders won’t be able to play off of him as they did Rondo.. Steph would make them pay!!
In the end, there ain’t noone better suited to have Steph commit to their team concept than KG!! You know this would work!!!

Meica says:
Listen: Rondo is not an all-star. He’s not going to appear on your all NBA team anytime soon, but he was a major reason that the Celts won the championship with the amazing numbers he consistently put up in the Finals, he played better than Farmer or Fisher or any other PG the Celtics faced excluding Chauncy, and he’s only completed his second year! When did Deron Williams and Chris Paul truly breakout and become the stars that they are? This year; their third year. I’m not trying to say Rondo is better than he is, but his is legitimate. Any one who disagrees clearly has some beef with the Celts because that Rondo kid proved he could play when he earned his ring.

celts is giving rondo a little bit too much credit(good defender, not phenomenal but i like his game too), but justice is giving marbury wayyyy too much credit.
this guy would not accept being the backup of stuckey or calderon. toronto needs toughness, yes, but a guy who never laughs and doesn’t play defense isn’t the answer either.
he was very good, but his numbers just don’t show how he plays now. and even if he would be able to play like 3 years ago, he is a headcase, who wants such a guy on his team?

I still think Marbury has game, but does he still want to ball? I haven’t even heard from him in like a year. Where is he and where is his head at. People always forget you when your out of the spot light. I think it’s to his credit that he isn’t out there slapping babies and chasing stray cats in the streets to get attention. He is doing his thing off the radar, dealing with his life after losing two of the most important men in is life.
I’ll always remember him for the sickest Oop I’ve ever seen in my life and for NOT being better than AI after people was saying AI was a thug and wouldn’t last in the league and ranking him below Steph. Besides that, on his game he is a Top 10 PG easy…
Not a fan of his, but I respect his talent:
Yes it’s old, but it wasn’t his talent that deteriorated in the last years it was his drive:

Marbury is in LA working out? sounds as if he works very “hard” every summer…
Reports of Stephon Marbury’s rigorous summer training sessions have failed to impress at least one of his teammates.
“It’s the same story every year,” says one veteran Knick. “He’s doing this, he’s doing that, he’s running hills, he’s lifting weights. And then on the first day of training camp he can’t even finish some of the drills.”

Celts Fan, "Kobe, Tell me how my @$$ tastes" says:
@Justice (post 23) - I don’t care about what Marbury’s done off the court (that truck thing is hilarious, come on. “You getting in or what?” Amazing!) It’s his attitude that’s spanned his ENTIRE CAREER that makes everyone hate him. He got a pass early on because he was young, and no one’s expecting a kid to be completely mature. He’s over 30 now though, so it’s time to grow the f*** up.
I’m not giving Rondo too much credit. That entire rant of mine (besides the he started on a title team, which isn’t exactly a lie and the phenomenal defender part, which you can argue semantics all you want, but dude’s a hell of a defender) was about the potential he has. He’s a hard worker, so you can reasonably expect his skills to keep moderately improving. I also said, “The jumper WILL BE AVERAGE in 3 years.” not exactly comparing him to Ray Allen. His defense is amazing (rewatch game 6 of the Finals again for proof, argue semantics all you want, but no one can make a case that he’s not a good defender.) He strips guys all the time, plays passing lanes well, and is probably the best rebounding (usually defensive boards) PG in the league other than Jason Kidd. He’s not ever going to be your #1 guy, but he’s a hell of a piece.
Also, Rondo dropped 10-15 points plenty last year. Once his jumper develops (again, saying 3 years out TO GET TO AN AVERAGE JUMPER, assuming he keeps working hard like he has been, that’s more than reasonable) and people have to respect that, he’ll be able to use that incredible speed to get by guys a lot more since they won’t get to just sag off of him and roam like Kobe did in the Finals.
I’m telling you, he projects out as Tony Parker with defense in 3-5 years. TP’s not winning a title for you by himself, but you don’t have to worry about the PG spot when you have him either. That’s all I’m saying. the word All-Star was never uttered (though I think “unstoppable” may’ve been, probably an exaggeration there…)

July 11th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Celts Fan, "Kobe, Tell me how my @$$ tastes" says:
and yes, Rico, you are out of your mind. Rondo’s not a top 5 PG now. He’s not going to be top 2 ever unless CP3 or Deron get hurt (and even then, byt the time he could be, there’s Brandon Jennings and Ricky Rubio who could be right up there too.)
The top 5:
1. CP3
2. Deron
3. Nash
4. Chauncey
5. Baron
Rondo’s right around #15 now (just throwing that # out there, didn’t acutally come up w/ a list beyond this)
(Note: I kept Gil out of the top 5 discussion altogether since he didn’t play last year. If he comes back healthy, he’s right around #5, maybe higher.)

ray ray has about 2 years left,kg maybe 3..then what?
he gets away with not having a jumper now because of his cast, but they are old..they are leaving very soon celtics fans…rondo is not as good as u guys think (his ceiling may be more derek harper end of his career/charlie ward which isn’t that bad at all, rather than kevin johnson/maurice cheeks as some of seem to think)
July 11th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Celts Fan, "Kobe, Tell me how my @$$ tastes" says:
Here’s the thing w/ Rondo, his calling card is his DEFENSE and speed. It’s like talking about Ron Artest (only a sane one.) You can’t just talk offense. He hangs his hat on his defense (which is why the Rafer comparison is insane) which is damn good and what differentiates him from 90% of the PGs in the league. That’s a valuable skill. Right now, his offense is just drives and easy putbacks (again, cuz he’s an amazing rebounder for a point guard and not afraid at all to jump in there w/ the bigs.) When the jumper develops, that’s another offensive weapon to pair w/ his defense.
@Damon, just admitted he wasn’t top 5 now (thinking you said that before my comment posted on your computer.) I think he will be at some point down the line, but he does have to work on other parts of his game (shooting and finishing drives) first.
and Justice, a jumper in 3 years is fine since you yourself just said the big 3 will be around til at least then, so he can slowly develop it without the pressure of absolutely having to.
I’m done w/ this (Rondo) conversation. At this point, everyone either thinks I’m a huge homer/crazy or agrees. No one’s changing their mind, we’ll see in 3 years. Til then, we’re all just speculating anyway. Just know I didn’t say anything about how good he is RIGHT NOW (other than around the 15th best PG in the league, which, if that’s me being a homer, I’m the worst excuse for a homer ever…)

and all the PG rookies that were drafted this yr( i still dont know y they took the Italian dude with Bayless and Augustin still out there..
yell right now i’d take Jamal Tinsley over that bum
and again this is not about who’s better cause bball is not a 1-on-1 sport and i think we will win more with these gus than with that fool

Crunchbury is like a cancer. He just eats away at money from teams, pt from other players, eats away at team unity, eats away at the sanity of coaches and more.
Dude should be called “The Cancer” for real.

Flyaman, you had me ROLLIN “If i had to hire another intern just so he can have somethign to do and not show up to wrk i would” Classic!
@BX, you’re missing:
Calderon
Andre Miller
Devin Harris
Gil (I DQ’d him from my top 5 list, but Marbury missed almost all of last year too, so if we’re making that list, he’s in)
That’s just adding some definites too.

hold up you said tinsley over steph, and then u state it’s not about talent? when has steph ever gotten arrested? or let off shots at the club? or gotten into fights repeatedly at the club..do you even hear about steph at the club?stop reading the ny post people..his body of work in the community speaks for itself…
and he comes from a hardworking family, they eat, sleep and train to be nba players, and look at the guy’s body (no homo) does he appear to be somebody that will let himself go?not to me…ya’ll are talking like this is antoine “overeater” walker, or eddie “please push away from the table” curry.

First off, I don’t care what y’all say about Rondo….dude’s got a ring and in the end that’s all that really matters.
Second - Starbury has just been dumped on pathetic teams. Yes, he is high maintenance, but on the right team with the right coach and teammates he could have a dramtically positive impact. He should play somewhere like Bo-town, LA, or MIA(no longer stands for missing in action).

@post #60
thats a gd post man ..funny
only thing i have to say is that i dont care about his fam or what he does off the court..all i want to know is if he gonna win games for us (and i dont mean 20games) the answer is NO..
and as far as PG skills i think Tinsley is better than Starbust and i dont .. and i do read the POst but i dont let media tell me how to think.. The media will have u thinking everything from NY is gd when really the only thing from NY thats worth talking about is the Knicks and the GMEN.. like i said i watch the games. thats what the NBA league pass is for.. Im down here in MIA and still make sure i catch my knicks games but i must admit since marbaury came i dont rush home to tham anymore.. (if i miss a qtr so be it)
and just for the record i never liked that dude.. when we traded for him i was the 1st one trashing his ass… I say the infection coming a mile away.. 2 bad isiah/Dolan/Walsh/Dantoni dont have my eyes

GEE...She caught the vapors says:
Naw how many squads you got to play for before you get right. That is crazy. So what Steph suppose to go from team to team to team till he gets to the ideal team he wants and then start acting with sense and playing the same.
Sure maybe the first time it was the squad you was on. But after a while of moving from place to place you have to start lookin at yourself. Dude has had ample chances to show his worth in taking teams to the next level, making other players better around him and otherwise and failed.
Shoot it’s a bunch of players that will act right when you put them on championship squads. The plus comes when you mature enough to act right and play the same when you squad is strugglin and you still getting yours and carryin that squad the best you can while being mentally straight.
Again Crunchbury is an experiment gone wrong. I would love to see dude prevail just because “It feel good to see people up on it” but to say it’s because of the teams he was on is crazy.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, and three on me again, and four on me again….get the picture.

u seem smart think about what ur saying dude..u have to care about what he does off the court..we are talking millions of dollars,i care if a dude like tinsley is going to the club every night and coming to practice drunk and underprepared it all works hand and hand.how the f do u win with a dude like that?
and his family having the history they do lets me know if im donnie that i can trust that this guy will put on his hard hat be ready to take care of business once camp opens, the fact that they repeatedly have prospects come out of that tree is no coincidence, they wake up at phucking 5am to work out from the time they turm 8yrs old..wtf..steph is tough as nails..i don’t think anyone of us can question that..once u have heart there’s always a chance..he loves the game, just keep him away from the reporters please…
