Philly Promises Elton Brand That They’ll Keep Andre Iguodala

In the love triangle of NBA free agency this offseason between the Clippers, Warriors and Sixers, three marquis names have gone from one of these squads to another. But the Sixers are supposedly going to do everything in their power to keep that number from reaching four.

While Donald Sterling has been trying to lure Andre Iguodala away from the City of Brotherly Love, hoping to return the favor to Philly’s GM Ed Stefanski, Philly has promised that they’re going to keep him teamed up with Elton Brand in black and red.

“That’s a guy we have to have,” said Brand, who repeated: “Management has let me know they’ll match any offer.”

The Clippers have about $12 million in cap space to try to get Iguodala to Hollywood, but Philly has virtually the same amount of room (roughly $11 million) - and if Brand is telling the truth, Stefanski will break into the luxury tax to hold onto ‘Dre.

get this team a shooter quick, korver trade seems more shitty daily ed…donnie walsh u see this! philly and new jersey are upstaging us! fix this now!

  2. cbizzle says:

Better make sure when they re-sign Iggy that Brand doesn’t void his contract and sign somewhere else. BUt if they keep that team intact, they are still in dire need of a shooter

  3. Dennis Castro says:

Justice, if we don’t trade Korver and get back Utah’s 1st round pick, then we don’t make the trade with Minnesota to clear up cap space to get Brand. The kicker for Minnesota in that deal was the draft pick. I mean why else would they take on Rodney Carney AND Calvin Booth?

  4. Lee says:

Any chance Philly could get Redick ?? He’s still on his rookie contract which cant be that big. Not sure who they’ve got to trade for him though.

To me it seems like if the clippers got iggy, it would be a case of “signing a guy just to sign a guy,” or “signing a guy just to stick it to these other guys who signed our guy.” I can’t really see iggy fitting in in LA at all. Furthermore, I think it would make LA worse off to try and sign iggy and they would end up regretting not throwing that money towards someone they have a pressing need for, like smith or okafor. They could plug one of those guys in immediately whereas with Iggy they’d have to shift their focus off of dudes like eric gordon and al thornton to make a spot for him.

I really don’t see the clips signing iggy, and if they somehow did, I think it would make them worse instead of better and they’d end up regretting it. meanwhile Philly could turn around and use the money they would have spent on iggy to get another shooting guard, maybe a better one, which is the most replacable and easy to fill position there is. (I know he plays sf sometimes but who the hell else do they have to play sg? Would you rather start willie “gives bums like me a bad name” green and iggy or iggy and thad young?)

did thorton not play some 4 last yr with mags and mobley at the 2 and 3 spots? if so he could play there and have baron running the break with iggy and gordon on the wings and kaman controlling the paint. plus iggy could now go back to his 2nd star with baron being the man.

  7. sunni says:

this is the same elton brand who promised to stay with the clips if they got baron—i hope the clips get iggy–we could use a dunker like him with baron–

  8. Reed Ewing Frazier says:

I think Josh Smith would fit better with the Clippers plus I want to see IGGY Miller and Brand play together even though that wouldn’t help my team since we are in the same division but I just want the East to get stronger a good team in Philly is always good for the NBA

KNICKS UP!! all the rest down!!

  9. K Dizzle says:

“and if Brand is telling the truth”

soon as I read that, I figured somebody better talk to Iggy to see what he wants. Maybe he likes LA. Philly don’t appreciate dude anyways

  10. Jay says:

I hope the Clips get Iggy to sign a ridiculous offer sheet to screw over the 76ers like they screwed over the Clips.

  11. Coop says:

er…they can’t do that. Check the rules and their cap space. I can’t see any way Iggy would leave unless he hates the Sixers. They have the superior team, easier conference, can offer enough money etc etc. No dice, LA!

    I hear you K Dizzle…

People flip off his production like his is a bum or something. He has the respect of the best players in the league. He works out with Kobe and Kobe always speaks well of his talents. He has improved EVERY year and has stayed on the floor. He has a bad playoff series in his first time being the 1 and only player on the floor that gets his own shots and people cast him to the side. This is why this town doesn’t have Chips, we don’t know what we have till it’s gone…

averaging 19+pt 5+rb 4+as 2st is not easy to come by. He is not the worst shooter as much as people try to say that. 33% from three is average and he improved A LOT on his mid-range game this year.

Call me a homer, but I know if “Dre I” walks we will be worst off. He is an All-star talent with the frame of mind to produce on the floor consistently. I don’t know what more people want from him. He is better than Rashard Lewis, Maggette, Deng, Gordon, Shawn Marion, so him asking for 5yrs (last year player option) $65-70 mil isn’t overpaying for a guy that has always put in the work…

Off my soap box. Ed Stef has been doing good so far. We need Dre. If we loose Lou that would suck, but if we gain a JJ Redick type shooter, then we may be okay, but Lou is a game changer off the bench. We need to loose Wille…

  13. Kudabeen says:

I call him “Dre I”, because A.I. is taken and Iggy is a little too nickelodeon for my taste…

  14. doc says:

    Keep the fucker

  15. Kudabeen says:

Doc has “Dre I” or Lou Williams been practicing with the Sixers at all?
