Ron Artest’s “Biggest Mistake”
Ron’s not happyRemember a week ago when Ron Artest was “99% sure” that he wasn’t going to opt out of his contract? Well now he’s 100% sure that it was a huge mistake.
“I think I made the biggest mistake by staying in my contract and I have to live with it,” Artest said. “I had some misleading information [in making the] decision on not opting out. [But] I still thank God for all his blessings and being able to play basketball and help people.”

More than likely he’ll be traded… I don’t know if he would have made more than 7-8 mil anyway in free agency this year. Next year may be a better market anyway.
What teams would have paid more this year? he would have risked being forced to take the exception on a one-year deal (5.8 mil?). He’ll be fine. Get traded to a better team that gets in the playoffs, then get a deal next summer for around the same amount as Jamison’s…
There are teams that could use him:
Lakers, Hawks, Toronto…

honestly, Artest is a better fit than Marion for LA. Artest is a better scorer and better all-around defender (saying a lot since Marion’s damn good too.) The Ron for Lamar trade is still a good possibility, I’m sure…

I don’t know. I don’t see him making more money in free agency than he’s making now.
He should demand a trade however because his career is being wasted on those 30 win Sacramento teams. It’d be good for the Kings too because they’re going nowhere until Ronnie leaves, they’re stuck in that NBA hell called mediocrity.

Ron would be great for any team that was willing to transport him like Hannibal Lecture. Toss him in a strait jacket and only release him 10 minutes before a game. Feed him only red meat and he’d be literally killing teams.
If you can’t implement that strategy, then he’s too crazy to keep around…might eat a kid at an NBA cares program or something.

indeed he needs to fire his agent; 2nd tier stars like arenas and baron davis and elton brand are all coming out this year because 2010 is the lebron/wade/bosh year, and everyone will be saving their money in 2009 for it. If he came out this year, there might be a long term contract for him; next year, maybe a two year deal. It’s pretty major; we’re talking ~10 million dollars for a guy who’s gonna make ~50 mil in his career. A 20% lifetime earning loss because a decision would indeed be even worse than punching a fan in the face.
