Ronny Turiaf Agrees to Deal With Warriors
Now that Golden State, after losing Baron Davis and their run at Elton Brand, have some money to throw around at free agents. First was last night’s Corey Maggette news, and now this morning comes word that the Lakers’ Ronny Turiaf has reportedly agreed to a 4-year, $17 million offer from Golden State.
Turiaf is a restricted free agent, so the Lakers can match any offer. He’s one of the few gritty players on the Lakers’ roster, so while he isn’t a big stat guy, they would actually miss him. And, as we all know, Ronny is Kobe Bryant’s guy.
He’d also be a decent fit on the Warriors. Turiaf can run a little and would instantly become one of the best defenders/rebounders on the team. Plus, he has virtually no desire to shoot the ball, so he would do the dirty work without taking looks away from other guys.

rangerjohn says:
the lakers better sign him, cause the cost of the surgery to remove his head out of kobe’s ass is going to cost more then what they could sign him for!

$4.25 million a year for Turiaf?
Mullin is a nut-job. There have got to be better players for $4.25 million than a guy who averages 2 points a game.

They might as well just resign Adonal Foyle for the same amount as his old contract.
He’s a better player than Foyle, but that’s still too much $.

Truth says:
Turiaf is a good player though, he hustles, block shots and rebounds very well, he has good size and in my opinion he’s underrated. He averages 2 points a game because he comes off the bench, and dude isn’t an offensive player. 4.25 a year is chump chnage in the league these days!! Arenas just got 111 mil over 6. Turiaf is a good addition to any team because of his hustle, and yeah him and Kobe are cool, but that ain’t gone stop him from gettin his paper!

Here’s another random Jordan-Kobe comparison:
Mike didn’t get his championship until after the Bulls parted with his main man Charles Oakley, right? Kobe-Turiaf is the modern-day Jordan-Oakley.

A dirty work, gritty guy has a place on all of Don Nelson’s teams…on the bench. Turiaf better keep his free ride in L.A….it may take him to the finals again.

How do yall know Turiaf is Kobe’s guy.Because he did a commercial with him?I dont get it.He jumps up and down if Luke Walton scores so it cant be being hype on the sidelines.Good move by GS though.

The Maven Report says:
Doc,
If you follow the NBA, everybody knows that he’s Kobe’s guy. He’ll always have a job with the Lakers as long as Kobe’s on the team.

Wouldnt Turiaf be taking Brandon Wrights playing time??
Please dont tell me they would put him at center.. Thats going even smaller..

Austin Burton says:
@doc — Turiaf is the one Laker we’ve seen hanging out with Kobe regularly off the court. He wears Kobe’s sneakers in games because Kobe kicks him down a pair.

@ Austin.I got you.He signed with GS or is it one of those restricted things.

Celts Fan, "Kobe, Tell me how my @$$ tastes" says:
He’s restricted and I’d bet the Lakers’ll match. A guy that’s 6′10″ with that motor that can be your energy guy off the bench and be a legit center is worth $4.25M per, especially to the Lakers (he’s the only guy Kobe’s ever played with he actually enjoys being around. Has to count for something…)

Cammy Z says:
Honestly, what is Mullin thinking? Why would you go after Maggette with all those quality swingmen? And then Turiaf? How about getting a point guard? That is a lot of money, even for the NBA. A lot of good, but not great, players are forced to sign for the veteran’s minimum these days and Turiaf’s contract isn’t much less.

Cammy Z says:
Sorry, I meant the $6 million veteran’s exception.

From what i’ve seen of the Lakers, Turiaf has a nice stroke and more will go in if at a greater volume. This is an under-the-radar signing that will definitely pay off for the warriors.
