Summer Cleaning Contest: Dwyane Wade Autographed Issue of Dime
Flash’s first magazine cover, autographedFirst up in the contest … Back in ‘04, we were the first magazine to give Dwyane Wade a cover. At Marquette, he had been on the cover of Sports Illustrated when they made their NCAA run in Wade’s final college season, but it was an action shot with other players. This was the first magazine to solely focus on Wade and his story and it’s something that he’s always appreciated.
Who wants it? Tell us why you want it, what you plan to do with it and we will hook up the best commenter with the issue.
** Make sure the email address you use to comment with is legit so that we can contact you.

Alex Lieberman says:
D. Wade was the reason I became an NBA fan - I was an undergraduate at the University of Miami and vividly recall watching his breakout performance in the 2004 playoffs. I have been a hardcore fan ever since, and read every single Dime post daily, as well as most espn/foxsports articles. If chosen, I would frame it and prominently display it in my home.

D-Wade is my brother’s favorite player. I’d give this up to him. I don’t know any other person that has picked up as many cards of Wade as him. He has all his Converse kicks as well.

i want to hang that magazine up because it will serve as a perpetual reminder of how UNclutch the mavs are.. every year i get my hopes up (67 games! and more relevantly, a few minutes away from being up 3-0) that they’ll actually do something in the playoffs.. i’m still waiting.
but i will give respect where respect is due. dwayne wade “won” the finals last year, the mavericks didn’t “give it away.” he’s a hell of a ball player.

Johnson Chau says:
D-Wade is a true warrior. The face of Miami. He got them The Trophy. He battled injuries. He helped USA strike gold during their dig. He’s humble. What more can you ask for professional basketball player?
If I ever got this issue, I would first read the entire thing (I don’t have this cover haha), and then eventually frame it. It’s worth the few bucks for the frame.

I’m going to be totally honest with you guys. I just want it cause its free. And since i just got laid off from my job I’ll probably sell it on ebay and use the winnings to purchase a life time subscription to Dime Magazine. (wink wink)
I can’t wait to see what reasons some of the readers come up with for wanting these items. Dime good luck swimming through all the bullshit you’ll be seeing through out the day. Still though its cool of you guys to give us the chance when you could easily donate these items to charity.

aj says:
Major D-Wade fan here. I remember telling all my boys how D-Wade is gonna be as good as Bron and better than anyone else in the draft that year. His tourney run at Marquette sold me. I remember watching those games and just being in awe of how he played. I knew he was something special. Took him in the 2nd round of my fantasty draft that year. Plus if I were to score this, it’d be framed and the first thing hung in my office of the house I’m closing on the 31st.
July 17th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Ross says:
I’d love it own this, but I’m not the biggest D-Wade fan. If I won it, I’d probably find some way of having it auctioned off for charity.
If I was a greedy bastard and I kept it, I’d hang it in my office and convince everyone that Wade is in my Top 5.
July 17th, 2008 at 12:40 pm

lol @Spliff an pitbull
But that is true I just want it cause it’s free too. Honesty gotta count for something. Plus I ain’t really got no sob story for yall. Does that mean I don’t deserve it.

D.Fulton says:
Huge D-Wade fan, only the biggest fan. Proven by my collage of various D-Wade photos I’ve put together since the Marquette days. Even though the Miami Heat struggled this past season I have remained faithful to D-Wade and his squad even after the injury, contined to watch the Miami Heat to see what pieces/player should stay to see what it would take for the Heat to be successful next season. I would treasure the autographed mag and when I get older pass it down to my sons and tell them the type of player D-Wade was in and after his prime.
July 17th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Jeffrey says:
I want it only because I can auction it off so I can pay for college. I’m sure it will fetch a hefty price!! I think that is a noble answer.
July 17th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
bballinca says:
I’d probably just frame it and put in my office at home next to his jersey.

Jimmy says:
Ladies and gentleman let me tell you in 04’ I was 14 watching D-Wade everyday I could. I downloaded some video mixes of him at Marquette and in the Heat. Having a court disposible I would mimic his every move. Sometimes I would leave the computer on and while I was playing and if I forgot one his moves I would go back and check it out. As you can see his moves still haven’t gotten me to the league but it turned some ankles. This mag will fill my trophy case and get the highest honor the top shelf.
July 17th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Logan Light says:
Dwayne restored my faith in the “Good Basketball Player.” For the longest I was so frustrated with the NBA - the players getting PAID and then complaining about wearing suits. It really turned me off. Then I found out how D-Wade spends his Christmas. He gets no presents of his own, or for his fam and they go out and GIVE. He sited the fact that he has everything he could want. It gave me hope that not every athlete with money is a complete punk.
To make things better, his “I’m with Basketball” campaign with converse changed my love of the game.
I owe a lot to D-Wade. Maybe that’s why I should wind up with that cover….

Cuz half the people posting up on here gave up on D-Wade and the Heat halfway through the season last year, but a select few of us kept hope alive!
(Like a politician, if you can’t win on your own merit, trash the competition…haha)
but on the real, i’m a huge d-wade fan! i really followed shaq from the lakers (la native over here). but turned into a bigtime d-wade fan since then…through thick and thin baby!!!
the only ones who should in the running for this one are me, miamivis3 and ashlov! loyal readers and loyal heat fans! just keeping it real!

that game, and the knicks st patty’s day game against the pistons in the same season i think, where jcrawf pulls and up hits the game winner…2 of the best games ive ever watched.

Hi Dime. I’m a big D-Wade fan. In fact he’s in my “top 5.” But seriously, my brother and I flew out to Miami from LA just to see him and the Heat play. I’ll be honest I’d love to frame that mag and hang it up.

She has all of his magazine covers and her favorite one is framed. Plus, she tried to see him play TWICE this past season in DC but he had a wisdom tooth removed the first time and then he had that dislocated shoulder problem the second. OMG….SHE WOULD LOVE THIS!!!! I want this cause I ‘ve been a big Dwade fan since Marquette.. I still remember his battle with julius Hodge.. I’m not a Heat fan but I was 1st first one congradulating them when Riley drafted him and everyone was like ..who? what? from where?
Also I live in MIA and go to the Heat games all the time Wade is my sons favorite player.. If i got this I would put it in some plastic and give it to my son so he can have something to encourage him when he gets old enough to start ballin

I’m a writer and I need this cover. I would frame it and put it right above my computer for motivation. Everytime I’m slacking and not working, I’d look at it and think that even though he wasn’t the strongest or the fastest or the tallest, DWade made it happen through hard work, and I need to do the same.

i would put it in a frame asap,i just broke up with me ex and she didn’t let me do any decorating, so im turning one room into a man shrine..plus my new chick loves the heat…

My wife’s a huge Pooky fan! I’ll frame it and give it to her as a gift. She’ll freak out, and leave me to pursue her dream of getting with him. Then she’ll fail and come running back, but I will have already skipped town and moved to Cancun, self medicating with cervezas and prescription drugs. The sexiest downward spiral EVER.

I am moving into a new apartment soon and what better item to put on my wall than someone who is an Iverson-like warrior, a winner, and looks so cool doing it? Wade represents to me one of the few players who play the game the same way if they were playing on concrete in the summer for free. Willing to sacrifice your body and play through injury (not pain, INJURY), is a lesson everyone can apply to their daily lives. Because of all those things, there’s very few other people’s images I would like adorning my wall.

BabyFlash says:
We’re all big DWade fans, but I am almost obsessed with this guy. I model everything I do after him because I think he’s so cool on and off the court but even more a better person. I think I was even more happy than half the Heat players when they won the championship and seeing him deservingly receive the Finals MVP trophy. I’ve always wanted to win rare DWade memoribilia because I am building a shrine to him in my basement for when I enjoy Heat games. Some people may think this is weird, but everyday I check the internet for any new DWade articles. My homepage is his website. This would be the icing on my Flash cake.

Bone says:
Not only have I been with Dime since Day 1, the original AI cover, but I been with you all since back in the HoopsTV days.
Anyway, Dwayne Wade was responsible for one of the most traumatic sportings experiences of my life:
March, 2003. I am a 22 year old senior in college and my beloved Kentucky Wildcats are about to stamp one of the best seasons in college history by beating Marquette to go to the Final Four. Gameday, I am flying back from Cancun from my senior spring break. I timed everything perfectly, so I would get back home right around tipoff and the win would be a mere formality. Little did I know…
After taking forever to get through customs, I missed my connecting flight, and was forced to find a TV in GW Bush Airport in Houston. After scrambling through the ENTIRE airport, I found a small little stand with a TV where I had to bribe the worker to put the game on and let me stand outside and watch.
What I saw was greatness. A triple double in an Elite 8 game against probably the best defensive team in the country that year? Circus shots, layups, jumpers, assists, boards, this guy did it all. Once reality set in that UK was toast, I was able to recognize what I had just seen - one of the 2-3 greatest NCAA tournament performnace of my lifetime.
Looking back, I should have had the foresight to know something like this would happen. My day started bad, ended worse, but in betwen I saw a glimpse into the future.
July 17th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Charlie says:
D-Wade is one of my favorite players in the NBA. He knows how to play the game and I love his old school off the glass jumpers. I try to pattern my game after his: slashing and shooting midrange jumpers and playing with intensity. He’s a role model and I went to college in the Chi as well. My first NBA game was Bulls-Heat Game 4 in 2006 and his game was mindblowing.
If I won this, I would proudly display it in my room next to my TV. This cover is so sick; it would be awesome to have this cover up next to my TV while watching Team USA basketball this summer!

I would love to have this copy of dime, because me and my wife are huge Dwyane Wade fans and she wasn’t even a basketball fan untill she set down and watched Dwayne Wade play in the NBA finals in 06. So I think its pretty cool that D-Wade got her started watching basketball.

I want that issue because I started watching Wade back when he was a sophomore at Marquette. I just knew he was gonna kill once he got to the League. I was telling everyone that but of course no one believed me. Just look at ol boy now, can’t no one stop him.
I need that issue because my old high school biology teacher graduated from Marquette the same year Wade left for the NBA. I’ve had a crush on her since forever, she is super hot! She also loves DWade and me having that issue would definitely score me some cool points in her book!
Please…Dime, do the right thing!

d wade is one of my top 5 fav players. Having the magazine alone would be a great prize since i dont think that they sell that in PR. Ive never had an autograph anything from any nba player so that would be a start. PR doesnt have a NBA team so i dont get that chance
July 17th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Chuck says:
Dwyane Wade is my NUMBER ONE FAVORITE PLAYER period. The next closest might be Kyle Korver (also a converse guy, coincidence?) but all these guys that say he is “one of their top players” arent big enough fans to deserve such a prestigious gift. If I were to win this would be like receiving the ten commandments themselves. Ive been a loyal fan since watching him take Marquette through the tourney and since watching him come into the league i have only grown to like dwyane wade even more not only for his skills as the best basketball player on the planet but as a consumate professional that every player and man should aspire to be (charitable organizations and relief benefits). Ive gone to many basketball games (In Philly) and whenever he comes into town i try to get his autograph or something but so far i have been unsuccesful …got Korvers tho!) but to win this would be a dream for me and it would be glass cased in an instant and proudly displayed in my room and would instantly overtake my flatscreen and ps3 or 360 as the thign to grab in case of a fire. So I hope you can understand my passion for winning this prize and why this message is so long …so please dime as a loyal reader or your mag and constant reader of the site pick me to win and you wont regret it.

Gary says:
Having followed Dwyane Wade since his days at Marquette, I have grown to appreciate and admire the player and person that many know as simply, “Flash”. Having entered a draft deemed by many as the strongest draft of the new millennium in 03′, Wade received less fanfare than some of his peers (i.e. LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, etc.) but has successfully played himself into the forefront of NBA stars today. As he splits defenders with his lightning-quick feet on the open court and rises for one of his thunderous slams, Dwyane Wade has proven himself to be one of the best players in the league, who’s game I have come to admire and emulate.
Not only is Dwyane Wade a proven commodity on the basketball court, he is a role-model for kids and adults alike. As good as he is on the court, he is just as good off of it. He remains active in community activities and has used his new-found success to reach out to communities across the world. His appeal isn’t simply regional, it’s GLOBAL. Not only has he saved a franchise (the Miami Heat) from the doldrums of the NBA, he has used his star-power to re-vitalize a show company, Converse, that had seemingly disappeared into obscurity, especially in the NBA. Now-a-days, kids and adults alike are rockin’ Converse kicks, much thanks to one man; Dwyane Wade.
There are many things I admire about Dwyane Wade, but to express them in words would probably take a week while taking up too much room on the comments area. I have been reading Dime Magazine since it’s inception into the World Wide Web (think Foxsports.com) and enjoy the pieces that touch on the lives of players both on and off the court; it is both interesting and refreshing. To be able to obtain a copy of DIME magazine with a feature ON and SIGNED by a player and person I admire so much like Dwyane Wade would mean the world to me–beyond what words could possibly describe. I would keep this (framed of course) and pass it on to generations after me because both Wade and DIME will be the the stuff of legend–someday.

D-Wade has been an inspiration on and off the court for me. In a recent ad campaign he wrote a love letter to basketball which inspired me to write my own short story of how I came to meet my true love. Thank you Flash and Dime, here goes…
A Love Story
I still remember the day vividly. It was 7th grade, after class. I went to the park and noticed you. Intrigued, I walked closer just to sneak a glance. A friend caught the stare and invited me over. It was that moment we were first introduced. I was shy at first, I didn’t know how to act. Palms sweaty, knees shaky but still, it was a glimpse of heaven. We started hanging out, same spot at the park, same time after class. Hours would pass, the sun would set, but day after day, we were happy just being together without a care in the world. Fast forward 10 years. Isolated. I felt I had no one to turn to. Loneliness. No one to share my innermost emotions to. Pain, disappointment, anger, frustration, betrayal, failure, tears. It was at that lowest point in my life that I then realized. Every step, every stumble. It was you who wiped my tears. It was you who shared my smiles. It was you who showed me how to hope, how to dream, how to love. It was you. Basketball. I love you.
Thanks,
Maddskizzle

On my first (and likely only) trip to the US of A we spent 2 months travelling around the states and all i wanted to do before i left was catch a live NBA game… We managed to get some tickets for a Heat game but my man D-Wayde was out with that shoulder injury to i would just have to settle for Shaq and Zo.
Then part way through the game, with no prior warning D-Wayde checked in and the crowd went bonkers! It was an amazing moment to witness (we don’t get hype like that in NZ) and one I’ll never forget! Best NBA game i ever saw!!

Oh - and what do i plan on doing with it? It will be framed and mounted, and when Wayde’s legacy is cemented in the HOF, it will be passed on through generations of Kiwis for year to come!

I think I should get the D.Wade magazine because he used to destroy my UAB Blazers everytime he played them. But on one memorable night on March 13, 2003, this all changed. UAB defeated the Mighty Marquette Golden Eagles 83-76 in the conference USA tournament. Wade finished with a double-double 11-points and 10 turnovers. UAB went on to lose in the Conference finals against Louisville and later in the NIT tournament against St.John’s but the highlight of the season was defeating the Dwayne Wade. I think I deserve this magazine to remember the good times when UAB defeated the might Dwayne Wade Golden Eagles.

I’m from the bronx and we don’t get a lot of opportunities here. For me this would be the opportunity of a lifetime. I’m not from the jordan era. I watch every game of his n it would b a dream to have something he touched other than me.

I still never read one Dime mag. But i read every article online, and check the site about 6 times a day.
The reason I want this magazine is because this would be the best way to start reading Dime magazine. They don’t sell any of your magazine’s here so I’m stuck with reading Sports Illustrated and the occasisonal SLAM.
I would probably read it, then frame it. Although I’m not a guy who usually frames things, it would look tight if I framed it along with my CB4 autographed poster. Then all I would need is Bron and Melo’s autograph, I wouldnt bother getting Milicic’s though.
Nuff said.

I want this because D-wade is one of my favorite players, he always plays hard and never shy’s away from contact and I love players like that, if i won I’d frame it and put it on the wall at my work, I work at a community Center in VA where we have alot of kids coming in playing basketball and learning the game through camps and I think it would make there day seeing the Dime magazine autographed by a player as great as D-Wade.
