Summer Cleaning Contest: Stephon Marbury Autographed Issue of Dime

Stephon Marbury autograph

Next up in the contest … Waaay back for Dime No. 8 in 2003, Stephon Marbury (when he was still on the Suns) took us back to his old project high rise in Coney Island. He autographed this copy right after the issue dropped. You guys seem to be talking about him a lot today (even when the story isn’t about him) so we figured we’d put this item up next.

Who wants it? Tell us why you want the issue, what you plan to do with it and we will hook up the best commenter with the mag. We know there are still some Starbury fans out there…

** Make sure the email address you use to comment with is legit so that we can contact you.

    I guess I win by default. I want the issue b/c nobody else does. Did I win?

  2. Uhm.... says:

    I think you did.

  3. kg fan says:

    I want it because I actually liked marbury for most of his career. Yes he’s crazy but I liked his game. If only he stayed with kg in minnesota and lost the ego. I still think he could do some things with the right personel

  4. isotope says:

    lol
    …@ WorldVision.org

  5. Tmac says:

    A lot of hate has been falling on the baller formerly known as Mr. 20 and 8. And while the dude has definitely lost some marbles, his game was (maybe still is) undeniably nasty. I had a large photo of Starbury near my desk at work to freak out people in the office, and mysteriously one day that picture was stolen. I could use a replacement and this looks like it would fit the bill.

  6. Mike says:

    I would send it to the Hall of Fame once Starbury makes it :)

  7. quick wit it says:

    notttt sooo fast

    i would love to get my hands on that graf- i’m a sports collector and i know autographs done that large are haarrrd to come by- not to mention from such a controversial player that early in his career- i’d definitely be showing this one off

    DIME hooook it up

  8. Justice says:

    I MUST BE THE ONLY STEPH FAN LEFT IN THE WORLD, I’LL TAKE IT AND FRAME IT…THIS IS A BKLYN ICON FOREVER REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS HE WILL STILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF THE CITY’S GREATEST EVER…DAMN FARE WEATHER FANS MAKE ME SICK..THE SAME ONE’S WHO GAVE UP ON MIKE TYSON ARE THE SAME ONE’S THROWING DIRT ON STEPH’S NAME..

  9. Sam I Am says:

    LOL I’d pay for ya’ll to keep Steph locked in a closet

  10. hahns says:

    nah..i want this!! i was waiting for something knicks related. even though marburys going to dishonerably discharged from the knicks…ill always be pullin for him to make it. the guy has been doubted and hated on his whole career..and ive always watned to see him succeed.

    im a DIEHARD knicks fan and i was the first one of my friends to get the starbury shoes. shoes were crap…but for some weird reason im a big fan of marbury despite the crazy interviews/tatoos/selfish attitude

  11. Ross says:

    If I win, I’d either sell it for $14.99, or ship it overseas.
    Seriously, I’d auction it off for charity, like everything else I’ve commented on so far.

  12. JCarr says:

    If I get this I will travel to Las Vegas where he’s currently at, than roll it up into a tub shape and smack him across the head with the magazine. My main target would be that obnoxious tatto of his. Afterwards I would take the magazine and use it as my extra roll of toilet paper. Dime you gotta give me this I am the most loyal and supporting marbury out here.

  13. JCarr says:

  15. Chris says:

    not a huge marbury fan, but my boy is…he loves the knicks even during their worst times, his two favorite knicks: marbury and starks

  16. GEE...D P G C and tha R O C says:

    I don’t know if I could have anything Crunchbury related lol. Crunch gotta show me more in the L.

  17. Truth says:

    Ya’ll can keep this sh*t!!! LOL!!!!

    It may make some nice toilet paper though?
    I would give this to a bum for toilet paper.

    Steph lately has played like a*s so why not use his photo to wipe a homeless man’s a*s

    He also is a bum, so his photo should circulate amongst his own kind!! LOL!!!

  18. Data says:

    I want it so i can burn it and cleanse the knicks of the demons that have been cursing them.

  19. Daily boy says:

    I want the issue so that I can take it around all the High Schools across the country and let these up & coming players see a fall from grace on being a Dime cover boy to becoming the Black Sheep of the NBA. Please Dime to save the generation of Ballers Behind us.

    This has been a public service announcement of DAILY BOY

  20. Justice says:

    None of the people commenting on this post can be from NY, and definetely not from BK, have ever went to a licoln game,or ever saw Steph play in the Psal championships at the garden..

    I remember he lite up Todd Miles up at paul robeson h.s. too that was 93 i think.. i was young so that’s how much it stuck in my mind, and iv’e been to maybe 1,000 games since but iv’e never seen another guard in the city a good as steph was…i really wanted to play like him up until freshman year college and now im 24 u do the math..

  21. Whitebob says:

    I want this cause I love pg’s that play with alot of street in there game, and thats what steph does.He def. should of stayed in minnesota and had a chance at a title instead of leaving for money.

  22. Truth says:

    @Justice
    Who the f*ck is Todd Miles and Paul robeson?

    ALL I know is RIGHT NOW, this dude has splinters on his a*s most of the season, and when his a*s is off the bench, he has heavily wrapped ankles so them sh*ts won’t break when Chris Paul crosses that a*s up!! LOLOLOL!!!

  23. Justice says:

    @TRUTH

    IT’S PAUL ROBESON HIGH SCHOOL IN BKLYN..Anyway Todd Miles was the pg he went onto play at virginia i believe, but steph gave him the business, just as he did Darnell Williams from Nazareth who went onto play at Xavier with James Posey..Do u people like basketball? seriously..check his history b4 u talk shytt..he gave ur favorite player buckets if he was anywhere in the era…

  24. Bartman says:

    Although Stephon Marbury’s days with Minny are all but a blur to be, I became an instant fan when he gave that sad city of New Jersey at least an ounce of legitimacy. This only grew with his days in Phoenix when he would be lighting up cats daily with 20+ points and dimes galore. To say he was a nightmare for opposing pg’s in the L would be an understatement, a testimony to his drive and will while a youngster in the streets of NY. There are three things I will never forget about Starbury that will last with me till the day I die. 1st, the face he made after one of the nast iest dunks I have ever seen (Rookie Amare’s dunk on Kandi). 2nd, cross-over on Yao Ming that sent the Lug to the floor. And lastly, the buzzer-beating 3 that sent the Suns to game 6 against the spurs. I am proud to say that I wear Starbury retro Phoenix jersey regulary.

    I firmly believe Stephon is one of the most misunderstood players in the league, and the most underappreciated. Although New York seemed like the final destination to glory, it was a managerial disaster. A weak supporting cast as well as Larry Brown’s “my way or the highway” approach killed a career average of which only one player to this date holds, Oscar Robertson (20+ points, 8+ Assists). And Zeke, well, I’ll let New Yorkers speak on his behalf.

    People may laugh at his sneakers but they are a viable option for all the kids and parents out there that both believe in him and his belief in affordable apparel. To those that question his heart, when Team USA was getting routed in the Olympics, which player not only busted his ass to keep the team in it, but holds the record for most points scored by a Team USA playa? That’s right, Stephon Marbury.

    Where ever he ends up, I will be cheering him on. None of you have seen the last of him, that is my promise as well as his. Dime, please make this magazine my 4th fondest memory of Marbs, thank you.

    P.S. The Hater’s can Hate, long as Hustler’s love.

  25. Truth says:

    @Justice

    My favorite player Is Kobe homie
    2nd Larry Bird
    3rd Isiah Thomas
    4th domique wilkins

    he ain’t ever gave none of the cats buckets bruh!!
    I ain’t from NY so I don’t know about all them nobody n*ggaz ya’ll be claimin woulda been great had they not…
    I respect your opinion on some seriousness, but come on homie? You and me know that the current stephon Marbury is trash on the sidewalk!!

  26. Spliff 2 My Lou says:

    DIME is quite possibly single-handedly keeping Marbury relevant. No other media outlet gives this guy the coverage you guys do. What ESPN is to Brett Favre DIME is to Marbury. It seems like you just look for reasons to mention him. Would Marbury drop 40 in summer league? Who cares. I can’t wait for next week. Whats next? Would Marbury like his eggs scrambled or over easy? How about… If Marbury could be any animal what would he be? Frankly its getting a little tired.

  27. MoxWestCoastRep says:

    Who won the damn draft night team tee shirts!

  28. Justice says:

    MARBURY ALREADY HAD 50 ON THE LAKERS TRUTH, CHECK THE BOOKS!!!

    LOL STUDY B4 U POST

  29. Truth says:

    @justice

    Kobe ain’t no point gaurd young’n!!
    The lakers are a COLLECTIVE team. He ain’t ever dropped 50 on kobe wit Kobe gaurding him! Would never happen homie!!
    f*ck a record book! My name is truth… LOL!!!
    So what I say is the gavel and the sound behind!!
    Now flea peasant!!! LOL!!!

  30. Justice says:

    45 on kobe my fault

  31. bballinca says:

    You should just throw it away just like the knicks are with him! (Do I win?)

  32. fiyaman says:

    when i said KNicks gear I didnt mean this..

    but anyway no thanks I already got enough toilet paper.. .

    I think Justice should get it he seems like a real fan from all his other posts

  33. Justice says:

    @truth

    did u even see the game azz clown..steph was killing everyone in the building, this was in 2005..go watch the tape they had to put kobe on him eventually and he took buckets too…why is that hard for u to believe? do u even remember steph in 05? R U really John Amechi truth? U sound like ur in love with vaseline…

  34. Truth says:

    @Justice

    LOL!!!
    You sound like Stephon left a suprise in your a*shole when you were little chump!! LOL!!!
    But forreal Naw, I don’t remember that game? 05, I’m a have to search it out on the web and research that?

  35. GEE...D P G C and tha R O C says:

    Please give Justice that ish cause seem like he gone cry cause people poppin bout Steph. Dude or you his cousin or some ish. Chill out.

    You actin like you the authority on dude. You so busy poppin off about all his heroics and ish. Why don’t you address his faults.

    Address his horrible games, address his lack of being a team player, address his weird a** interviews. Address him being horrible as must as you poppin about how good he is. Then I will consider what you saying fa real.

    Right now you just lookin like a family memeber of dudes, a secret admire of dudes, or stalker or some ish. So what up with all the wack stuff that has gotten Steph all this publicity.

    You saying it’s all false, lies or rumors. All these haters and dislikers of Crunch or wrong and can’t see? Naw where there is smoke there is fire. Dude might have been the bomb and even currently prolly can still light it up, but that don’t excuse alllll that has gone on with dude.

    and Spliff I think Steph would be a Lemur (aye-aye) and I think dude likes his eggs scrambled like his brain. LOL

  36. isotope says:

    @Spliff

    lol. You right tho.

  37. dukesman2000 says:

    Even if you slap a “free” sign on that no one would take it.

  38. Justice says:

    i already stated in a previous post that Steph is not the sharpest tool in the shed and he needs a pr asap..but i don’t condone non knick fans talking shytt about knick players,if anyone is gonna talk shytt and boo it will be me,mark jackson,and david stern..

    Steph does needs to go! but we as knick fans will be the only ones packing his bags..I don’t know why anyone that isn’t a knicks fan is even in this convo..

    Ya’ll have to understand im from Bklyn and grew up watching him just as people from chi town watch isiah and tim so on and so fourth..he was my mj at one point…i never said he was the greatest player on earth,but he’s not the worst as many of you are trying to say either..

  39. Truth says:

    @justice

    f*ck that sh*t justice!! You know the knicks suck!! you know steph sucks!! We will give you the giants and football for right now. But ain’t sh*t you can defend New York on regarding basketball!! New York and basketball shouldn’t even go together right now. That’s like saying beautiful and whoopie!! Like Dwight Howard would say. “GET THAT SH*T OUTTA HERE!!!!” LOLOLOLOL!!!

  40. GEE...D P G C and tha R O C says:

    Aight bet so granted you a fan. That is cool. But surely just because you in NY don’t mean you hold the rule on who can pop and who can’t on Crunch.

    I mean think about cats that don’t even have a NBA squad in they city or state so they live through other places and players. They might not have seen as much first hand as you but they may be just as big as a fan.

    That is like saying if you ain’t from Canada you can’t talk about basketball cause Naismith was from Canada. Meanwhile I assure you kids in the ghetto was already prolly shootin balls through everthing outside of a peach basket.

    It’s cool for you to be a fan and all but you will prolly live longer if you don’t get so wild when people outside of BK or NY come down on Steph. But while you trying to convince us how nice Steph is or was, why don’t you get in contact with Steph and remind HIS a** that.

  41. Truth says:

    @Justice

    I heard the reason Isiah and Stephon had such a love-hate relationship is because Stephon and Thomas was f*ckin and Stephon wanted it to end, so Thomas cut his playing time and steph was like f*ck that!! And that’s how all this got started! It makes sense? Thomas was given him that meat, and steph couldn’t run right, and his fagism hurt his game!! This sh*t is all comin together now… LOLOL!!!

  42. ERIC says:

    Remember that in 2004 when all the “stars” were backing out (aka being little bi$ches) of the Olympics, Steph came on last minute and played his heart out for TEAM USA. Yes, they got the Bronze, but think about all the players (wussies) that made excuses not to represent the country that pays them their ridiculous salaries.

    Steph is now a nutjob, but as the Dime Cover says, he is/was the prodigal son of NY and represents NY (and the USA) proudly.

  43. Justice says:

    no one else in any other post has had anything positive to say about Steph at all all the negatives have clearly been highlighted by the remarks on these post,so why am i wrong for saying something positive,everything iv’e said about his game has been accurate, did i say he should win all defensive player of they year?NO.. did i say he deserves a column with peter vecsey?NO..but the people calling him garbage are clearly uninformed about his skills…I have to defend kenny anderson

    I Didn’t limit the knicks supportors to region i don’t care where ur from or live as long as u like the knicks we’re good!If I was to get on here and talk shytt about the celtics or the lakers players,the nation would be all over my neck,but for some reason as knick fans were losing our edge maybe…why aren’t any knick fans stepping up and trying to stop this shytt but me..

    and dude who said the knicks suck… ur mother

  44. Justice says:

    i have to defend kenny anderson in the same way usual..was the previous

  45. Truth says:

    @justice

    aaawww Justice now why you have to go and talk about momma’s yo? That’s some low blow sh*t

    You need Sam I am to read you some of the bible right quick?

    Did I say anything that was incorrect? DO the Knicks suck?Yes? Do they lose a lot? Yes? Are they good no? Do they win? Did steph have a good season last year? Hell No!!

    That some low blow New York sh*t though!! Only a loser would grab a n*gga balls in a fight

    SO I guess you a loser along wit yo team and your city!! BBBIIIITTTCCCCHHHHH!!!!! LOLOL!!!

  46. fiyaman says:

    yo man Im a diehard Knicks fan and I agree with u when u say only Knicks fans should be talking shit bout (ithink im the 1st one to bring that up)cause other people just look for reasons to hate.

    But dude Im from Brooklyn Kings County (KCGH) and i have always hated marbaury. in fact i think he got all the hype simply because he’s from NY.. I can come to your defense when dude rile u about ur love for the knicks but man when it comes to defending starburst……………

    Crickets

  47. K Dizzle says:

    I love Kenny Anderson. Craziest left-handed handles.
    Now for something positive about Staph……………, yeah I spelled that like that…………………………………I’ll think of something

  48. Truth says:

    @fiyaman

    I’m just talkin sh*t to get dude riled up!! LOL!!
    He went gay on me though and started doin that 3rd grade yo mama sh*t. LOL!!!
    It’s alright though??? He has shown his true colors.
    Rainbow…

  49. Justice says:

    Steph played in 24 games total last year…

    Who’s ur team truth?Do u have a season with the knicks in 2k8 and steph is cogging ur cap space or something?if not then don’t worry about us we will be ok…

    WATCH FOR THE COCK,COMING TO AN ARENA NEAR U

  50. fiyaman says:

    sorry man but i refuse to sit and wait on cock

  51. fiyaman says:

    lol.. u left urself open 4 that 1

  52. Matt says:

    I can bring it to my local park and see how many of the guys diss on me for having it.

  53. Justice says:

    LMAO I CAN’T WAIT TILL NEXT SEASON

  54. ap007 says:

    I want it becuase….I truly believe Steph is a gret player and that he still is great and no matter what ima show him love forever cuz NY will always love steph and Steph will alwayz love NY

  55. AG says:

    All Steph is is an overpaid star with a big mouth who just happened to land in New York.

    Sure he’s not all that bright, sure he’s not the “best PG” in the league, but he’s also a bit of a victim of circumstance. He’s not the first guy to be paid based on stats versus actual game changing production, and he’s not going to be the last. It’s not his fault he landed a rough gig with New York and couldn’t make that circus of a team work.

    It’s also not his fault that he had to deal with Zeke in any capacity for as long as he did. Kids have been known to become retarded just by standing within ten feet of that idiot.

    The big problem that Starbury has is that the media just hates him. I mean when the media hates you, you’re done as far as public perception of you, and that’s the case with Steph.

    Bet money if he had stayed with Phoenix he wouldn’t be this hated, and bet money they’d be just as ringless as they are now.

    What will folks say if he ends up doing it big next season with a good squad? Suddenly the dude got good? Nah, it’s all about where you’re lucky enough to fall, and if he’s lucky enough to fall somewhere good next season, he’ll be back amongst the more productive overpaid underachieving players of the league.

    Real quick though, what in god’s name will anyone do with a signed Starbury mag? I can see the point in a Sheed jersey because he’s by far the coolest person to ever touch down on earth, but a signed Starbury mag? I’d rather just get a pair of his shoes.

  56. AG says:

    Hey Dime, if I give you a good reason, can I just get the most recent issue of Dime signed by the best looking woman in the office instead?

  57. Johnson Chau says:

    Marbury. Streetball legend. NBA All-Star. The rise and also the fall of Marbury were witnessed by fans. Can he still keep up? I want this issue simply because simply I know he’s not that kind of a slacker player. I will frame this issue if i get it.

  58. Tha Boddy says:

    I want to have that issue so I can remember the Starbury of 2003 and not the tat on his face of today

  59. GEE...D P G C and tha R O C says:

    Yo Justice I can’t wait either. lol.

    Still Justice you put up the hardest fight for dude so I hope DIME hooks you up. Sorry Sam, you admitted you had the wrong scripture anyway lol.

  60. Top_Gun says:

    I think I should get it, just listen to my story. Just a few weeks ago i was digging in my closet for something to wear to the court. I came across a T.Wolves Marbury (home)jersey. Anyways, i thought i’d wear it since i always loved his street ball game. When i got to the court, i could hear laughing from the other side….actually long story short, i got my ass whooped on the court that day. The worst part is, a player on the other team, had a Mike James(raptors) jersey. If i did win it, i’d put it in my living for everyone to see.

  61. MoneeMane says:

    kiki_the_vip@hotmail.com

    i want it because i dont have enough money to by marbury’s merchandise such as jerseys or anything. Im a marbury fan, and i would love to have this autographed merchandise. If i get this it would be big.

  62. doc says:

    Give that shit to justice.You know he from Steph hood just by how he rep show him the love back.

  63. Danny Clark says:

    I NEEEEED THIS!! Big starbury fan, i’ve followed him since his high school days at lincoln to the pros. would love to have it.

  64. BxBaller says:

    Please Dime, I’m a true Marbury fan. I’ve been a fan of his since his rookie year in Minnesota. I was so glad when he was traded to the Knicks (my hometown team). I own his official Knicks jersey, plus a pair of Marbury jeans that were made by Unk that I have yet to wear. This is something that I could treasure and hopefully show to my children some day. This will probably be the only time I will have the opportunity to own one of Marbury’s autographed memorabilia. Plus it would go great with my Charles Oakley, John Starks, and Herb Williams autographed t-shirt and hat that I got when Oakley opened up his car wash in Yonkers so many years ago. So Please Slam, pick me. Thank You.

  65. BxBaller says:

    It’s nice to see that their are still some real Marbury fans out there, no matter how few their are.

  66. Vance says:

    Hell yes there are still starbury fans in this great nation of ours I hear about it everyday, personally I can’t say I that I am myself. However a good friend of mine recently got me a pretty sweet and job and he has a little sick obsession with the NYKs, he has a small shrine of knick player’s posters,cards, and other memorabilia. I say sick because we live in Springfield,MO the kid is not from NY nor has never been there and this magazine would look great in his shrine…err laundry room. The same laundry room NYK shrine that his girlfriend broke up with him over… Just looking to help a friend out. Enjoy the site and the magazine either way, you provide me with my basketball fix everyday.

  67. James says:

    Man Ive been watching Steph since HS- He’s been wronged in the league- he is still a legit 20 a night guy- someone needs to give him another shot. I am a autograph collector and I display all my items- I will def. be showing this one off

  68. Campy says:

    This is one of a few issues I am missing for my collection of DIMES! I buy all my Dimes on newsstands as I get them signed at Cavs games. I collect autographed copies. Please hook me up.

  69. TL says:

    I already have my bags packed and ready for Italy. As soon as Marbury takes off, I’ll be there.

  70. gee the steph fan says:

    I’m rolling with Justice, marbury is my favorite player in the league, its a brooklyn thing, since as little boys me and my dudes played in the same ball leagues as him. He’s my dude. I was so happy he came to the KNicks. If I could, I wish he’d stay far away. NY fans never appreciated him. And NY has SO many foreigner, that fact that he’s born and bred in NY may have been a slight on him from his jealous and international fan base. I can tell you cuz I know, alot of immigrants don’t like us born in usa nyers, they think we think we hot shit, anywayz, the idea that Knick fans like a no defense all fluff guy like Crawford over Marbury is so stupid, I don’t even fight it. Isiah, was trying to save his ass, didn’t have time for Marbury no more, he forced this curry garbage on us, not dissing curry, its just that the knicks should be running. Isiah and LB shitted on my dude, hardbody, and then LB wanted washed up Franchise? how many pgs did we have? NY fans so stupid only see his scoring decline, but they dont see the new nba, where pgs don’t pass and shoot first. I wish Marbury to stay. he’s not washed up, he didnt play last year like Arenas, Yao, and countless others, its not those other players fault their team sucked either. Time to shave for my tatoo
