Summer Cleaning Giveaway: Bobby Jones Air Force 1′s
Air Force 1′sWhat’s better than a good ol’ pair of crisp Ones? The Dime summer cleaning giveaway continues with this pair of very rare Bobby Jones AF1′s.
No, this isn’t the Bobby Jones who played for 13 NBA teams last year. This is the Tar Heel-certified, ABA/NBA All-Star, lock-down defender (11 All-Defensive Team nods) who won a chip with the ’83 Sixers.
The kicks are a size 9. If you want them, tell us why you want them, what you plan to do with them, and we’ll hook up the best commenter with this pair…
** Make sure the email address you use to comment with is legit so that we can contact you.
*** We will be contacting winners directly.

isotope says:
Those are nice. Wish I could sport them myself but I dont wear a 9. But I know a bunch of boys down here in Houston that would.
BTW I have a stack of Dime issues in the my backseat and they get to read them when I’m dropping them off. It would mean even more to know the shoes came from THE Dime magazine.
Actually I might auction them off for a fundraiser instead. We have these auctions every year to help raise $$ for Young Life. I’m sure this will generate some dough.
But if you have any size 11s. Forget the kids, i’m keeping them! lol

A-Slam says:
I want these shoes!!!, they represent alot. When I wear them I believe my work ethic and hustle will be even better than Bobby Jones’s back in the day. I’m hopin that when I put them on I go from lazy stoner to a workin machine who fights for every loose board and doesn’t let no soft pretty boy in the post get one fuckin point. Ill be a combination of Bobby Jones, Kurt Rambis, Bill Laimbeer, Rick Mahorn, Dennis Rodman, and James Posey all rolled in to one with these kicks. These shouldn’t be Air Force One’s, these kicks should be called GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY WAY BITCH CAUSE’ YOU AIN’T GETTIN THAT REBOUND!!!!

sunni says:
why i want them–cause im a size 9 and y’all always giving away stuff not my size (like xl jerseys, size 13 shoes);;;and the fact that these shoes are unique: ‘power and focus every night’ printed on the side–thats how championships are won..
what id do with them—wear them around chi-town hustling through the city

July 21st, 2008 at 5:56 pm
J-McG says:
First off I am a size 9 and would want these signature sneakers for that…but most important is who Bobby Jones is as a person first and player second..He was the FIRST ever 6th man award winner, he was a World Champion with my 76ers (215 for all my 33 years) he is a Christian, he ALWAYS raised his hand when called for a foul and never argued with the officials, Bobby was named Philadelphia’s Most Courageous Athlete Award in 1983 because he suffered from asthma and seizures and never played in LESS than 70 games a year (by todays standard players miss games for a sprained ego, or from to many red bull and vodkas on the flights) and most important is that Bobby has a career field-goal percentage of .550 which is among the highest ever for an NBA forward –with that said I would wear these daily and use the sneakers as a reminder that good people can accomplish anything, just put your mind to it

micaela6955 says:
The pressure is on–do you have what it takes? Do you have the confidence to take the shot? Will your kicks carry you to where you want to be? If you stumble, you’ll need to pick yourself up off the floor and continue, giving it your all. Eyes are watching you as move across the court, your AF1′s moving in perfect rhythm to the beat of the ball hitting the floor. You watch the time, turning, throwing the ball up and into the air as the buzzer sounds and all wait watching the final results…a 3 pointer! You’ve won the game, and the respect of your teammates, family, friends and fans. And it was all made possible by a great pair of kicks and a dream.

i have to be honest, i dont know alot about bobby jones but these kicks are hot and ive never won anything but id rather win the Q’3s thank u

TL says:
I’m gonna be honest with you Dime. I have no clue who Bobby Jones is and it looks like fellow reader J-McG already beat me to wikipedia. Let’s be honest, he is probably way before my time.
But I must have these shoes because I am short and shy, and that tends to work against me with the ladies. With those shoes though, I confidently go up to a good looking girl and simply point to the back of the shoes where it says “power and focus every night.”
Imagine how Dime can change my life with a pair of shoes. I won’t have to waste time surfing the web for pickup lines EVER AGAIN!!! (or at least until the shoes wear out)

Number one…a size nine is perfect for me. It’s my size and the shoes are straight fire. Number two, I’m a Dukie and I’d love nothing more than to agitate my UNC buddies down in the triangle than by rocking the kicks worn by one of their greats. Besides this, I love basketball and basketball history, so I’d feel like I’m wearing a bit of this storied history everyday, which is something I’d cherish.

I want these kicks for my dad. My entire life, I’ve grown up with my dad as a fan of all things Philly sports, but especially the 76ers (and Warriors) and local ball. Bobby is the epitome of his type of player: scraps for everything, plays better than he should be able to and pisses off every person on the receiving end of his defense. Since his teams haven’t won a chip since 1983 and the likes of Nova, St. Joe’s or Penn aren’t playing back to back at the Palestra, I’d love for him to have a bit of shine and show the old fellas how to wear new school customs.

Dime, i’d like them! My sister is an avid AF1 wearer and her B-day was the 19th. All I could give her was gas and would like to bless her with a pair of special forces. Nothing would please her more. Sorry my reason isn’t the greatest, but it is at least genuine and heartfelt…

Shane Reoch says:
I don’t feel OLD, but at 40 I was the senior player in our city’s A league. There were only 2 other guys in the league over 30 this season. This likely says more about my post-game contributions–I’m not a bad drunk–than it says about my game. Still, it’s an accomplishment: I am the only guy in the league who remembers actually watching Bobby Jones and the “fo’ fo’ and fo’” Sixers. This must be worth something, right? Also, these shoes would do wonders for my cred. You guys play basketball. So you know that what it’s like to play against those older guys, with the Oscar Schmidt hair line, extending far too much energy on routine plays in a transparent attempt to look like they’re still relevant. Help me not be that guy! When I show up at the gym in the fall, make dudes look at my stylish kicks and not at my crow’s feet. They’re the right size, and they’re not much different than the original airforce 1′s–with the silver ankle strap– that I wore my grade nine season in 1982/83, the same year Bobby Jones won the title. They won’t see the court, but they’ll do wonders for my game.
Cheers,

Will says:
Im a shoe freak, but these are not my size. Im a size 11 now but I still have sneakers from when I was a size nine that have never been worn.
I coach a YMCA team and sometimes give the kids my old sneakers when they have a good season or good grades.
End of one of our leagues I gave a kid my Olympic J’s ……Yeah Im still kinda hurt, but the kid had all smiles. ….I wonder if he knew the significance.
Anyway,
If you gave these to me Id give them to one of the kids on my team for a reason not yet determined.

Can says:
I think i should get these because i dont make dumb ass comments like “whats with the kids/midget/girls sizes?!!”. There is nothing wrong with wearing a size 9 and being 5’10.
Also, i had to play softball in my red/white 1′s yesterday because i forgot my real runners.. and now they are trashed!!!
Thanks

I have a little boy that I am trying to get to appreciate the game. I grew up a basketball junkie and want to spread the interest down the genes.
I think this would be great to peak his interest.
I don’t have any sob stories and I ain’t going to make an ass out of myself. I just think it would be sweet and would definitely peak the young ones interest to win a pair of shoes by Mr. Jones. Maybe it will peak his interest in the defensive end of basketball. Kind of hard to do when today’s game glorifies the offensive player.
