Team USA 120, Canada 65: Instant Analysis
Why the U.S. won: They were (and are) just better. Better athletes, better basketball players, better team play. More specifically, the U.S. was always making the extra pass — sometimes to a fault — but as a result rarely took bad shots when the game was still in question.
Why Canada lost: Call it “Team USA Syndrome, Circa 2004.” The Canadians seemed like a team that was thrown together last week. Too much one-on-one playground style ball for their guards, who couldn’t really blow past any of the U.S. guards, and who were often out of control. That led to a lot of turnovers, which led to a lot of breakaways for Team USA.

I heard the announcers say that they don’t think USA will have Mike Krzyzewski as their coach after this Olympic run. Why wouldn’t he stay and be a part of the future of USA basketball?

Ahhhh it’s good just to have basketball to watch again.
Second It’s real wack that there wasn’t any post game comments. W.T.F! I mean there couldn’t have been 30 seconds of someone from the squad saying something.
Third we all know they were good and everything so I won’t go there that is basic knowledge that they are going to whoop some backside! Still the battle for second should prove to be interesting.
Fourth I see this particular team getting in a fight somewhere down the road. Couple of the players (Kobe) yap to much, and some (Carmelo) were extra physical and it’s going to be interesting when an international team trys to go the physical way back or starts out real physical with them. Carmelo might have to sucker punch and run international style lol.
This was better than the All-Star game!

Oh yea and I still say Mike K going to coach in the L after this at some point. I only see 2 – 3 more years at Duke and then it’s on in the L.
What up with LeBron hanging with the Billion Boys. Nice look. Dang dude just got swag on who he with, Billy Gates, Jay-Z and the list goes on.
Love the Uniforms. Announcers were pretty corny.
I love that they don’t call on the floppin ish. Kudos to refs and all involved in not letting that stuff mess up the game.
Stop snitchin and stop floppin!

The game was awful. Man, I love my basketball, but forget watching Redd drain jumpers from the girl three point line with the game outta reach.

Borgs says:
You’re off the mark, AG. FIBA is so not the lengthy bore that is a lot of NBA games. Even the blowouts are watchable. Timeouts are just killing the NBA as a live TV spectacle, even making some games torturous to sit through. Stern? Couldn’t give a shit. “Network revenue, network revenue, network revenue” would be his first three answers if you asked him.
Anyway, I enjoyed the game, but the Canadians are about a quarter of the average competition opponents in the Olympics will provide.

Borgs says:
Even allowing for the extra physicality of FIBA, I thought the referees let a few things go that normally would be tooted. Perhaps they were under instruction by USA coaching staff to let the boys get a little roughed up as preparation.
Where did Boozer’s two late weakside blocks come from?! Why can’t he do that at club level?

That would be funny if Carmelo had to punch someone under the rim and end up in halfcourt in a second. The US team is too soft, back then they had players like Barkley, Rodman, Charles Oakley, in the league. Now it’s a buncha wusses that care too much about losing corporate sponsorships. Which is why I predict, a Euro team beats up couple of US players if they lose the game.
