Tracy McGrady Is Interested In A Trade to the Pistons

Tracy McGradyT-Mac

Though both Rockets and Pistons management have consistently denied that they’ve even explored a deal involving Tracy McGrady, this rumor has gained enough steam that T-Mac had to weigh in on it himself. Late last night, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith reported that he had a conversation with McGrady, who is interested in at least hearing about a deal to D-Town.

“Is Tracy McGrady interested? Yes he is. I spoke to Tracy McGrady earlier. His basic thing is he’s very happy in Houston but he wants to win. So whatever is a winning situation for him is something he is more than willing to entertain.”

Smith said McGrady “has all the faith in the world” in Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars, but “if nothing happens he’s not going to sneeze at remaining in Houston with Yao Ming either.”

Is saying that he’s got “all the faith in the world” in Dumars, a back handed way of telling Rockets’ GM Daryl Morey that he doesn’t have nearly as much faith in him?

T MAC on the Pistons would be scary.

    Stuckey
    Rip
    TMAC
    Sheed
    Maxiell/Amir

I’m more interested in a possible sign and trade for Josh Smith though. Now that the Clippers got Camby…

Pretty much noone can afford him. Joe D go work your magic!

  2. tim says:

and the above is on the thinking that Tayshaun and Billups are traded.

you would still have McDyess maybe, plus Afflalo, plus that Samb guy they are developing…its amazing when you think of how Old the core is, and then see how young everyone else is…

  3. Damon says:

you think the pistons would only lose billups for tmac?
I would probably take at least 2 out of the big 4, unless houston wants to make a donation to detroit.

  4. Truth says:

    @Tim

Sheed is in the last year of his contract and Maxiell is too undersized to even think of playing center.

I would keep billups and Prince, prince for the youth and Billups for experience

    Billups
    TMAC
    Prince
    maxiell
would have to sign a center.

  5. Damon says:

    oops, I messed that up.
of course your concept would mean billups and prince. didn’t see it.

  6. the mamba says:

Well the rockets may already have the best team in the west. The question is, what’s in the crystal ball as far as tmac and yao’s health this yr. I don’t want an old ass billups on the rockets though. Id rather have them chase another younger pg b4 entertaining the thought of trading tmac. Maybe lowry, cittenton, hienrich, or ramon sessions. Shaun livingston experiment anyone?

  7. Octopus Jonny says:

    @ Truth, I agree with:

    Billups
    TMAC
    Prince
    maxiell
would have to sign a center.

And for that center, I have no idea on the Pistons’ financials and don’t feel like looking before I post, but what are their chances on Okafor?

  8. Zach says:

JOE DUMARS- Please do not make this trade. This is not upgrading the team. T-Mac doesn’t fit in the Pistons scheme. Unless you can get him for Affalo and Amir, there is no way that this makes our team any better.

On the other hand I do like a possible Sheed, a young big and a draft pick or 2 for Z-bo and David Lee from the knicks. This would make us way better than shipping off a bunch of very good starters for an injury prone vet that plays Rips position.

  9. Kobeef says:

I think it would take Hamilton (to replace T-Mac’s scoring) and agree that Prince would be the other half of the deal for his youth. Hamilton only has one season after this year left on his contract (same as T-Mac)

Can Detroit and Houston just make this trade already? Both teams have done nothing to improve while every other team around them has made huge moves.

I like this look for Detroit:

    Billups
    Stuckey
    T-Mac
    McDyess
    Wallace

  10. Jeffrey says:

If T-Mac is going to Detriot, then Jason Maxiell almost certainly have to be included with Billups. Maxiell will certainly play like a big that Houston needs to back up Yao

  11. Truth says:

    @Jeffrey
That’s silly dude? They have like 3 maxiells already in landry, Dorsey and Harris. NO MORE GRITTY FORWARDS!!

  12. Scott says:

Following up on Jeffrey’s suggestion that Maxiell go to Houston. How nice of a tandem would Yao and Maxiell make on the front line of Houston, Maxiell is all power, while Yao is all finesse, they’d offset each other nicely.

  13. K Dizzle says:

T-Mac shoulda kept it shut and stayed in Orlando with Dwight Howard instead of cryin his way to Houston after runnin outta Toronto after they drafted him so him and Vince coulda shared that heart. Mac ever played on a USA National team?

  14. Ross says:

Stephen A. Smith likes to stir shit up, so I don’t know just he serious McGrady is about this.

  15. Michorizo says:

Mac played on the USA team once before … he tried to beat up a Puerto Rican, if I remember correctly…but I could be having a stoner moment.

  16. Prof. TX says:

You can tell how one-sided these trades will be because the Pistons fans are all speculating about improvements but you don’t see Rockets fans showing any interest. The Pistons are getting older each year, but not getting alot better. Now teams like Houston are supposed to get excited about picking up the aging pieces that Dumars decides not to keep anymore?

  17. isotope says:

Well said Prof. Nothing about this trade gets me excited as a Rockets fan. Rip is not going to work well with the kind of offense in Houston. He’s the only one I would really like from Detroit. Maybe Sheed too but he doesnt play big enough. Please Morey. DO NOT MAKE THIS TRADE!!!

  18. Bron42 had springs before slamball says:

tmac played on the national team a few years ago that got them into the last qualitying when they were smackin everyone by like 30, when it was him, vince, kidd, j oneal etc… a pretty stacked team. It was the year before everyone started backin out cuz they were worried about bomb threats and the security at the time since all the 9/11 shit.

Tmac can play in any system really.

    @K dizzle
He left toronto a) they sucked b) those horrible jerseys c) he played the same position as vince and got no shine.
Then went to orlando with the promise of gettin to play with tim duncan(was a free agent at the time) or a HEALTHY grant hill. He got neither and still got orlando to the playoffs. No one really had any idea that Dwight howard was gonna be this good, although dwight and tmac would of been sick. if they had a legit pg….man

No way the rockets want maxiell in the trade when they have 3 other strong but undersized hard working pfs. Anything houston would get in the trade, they already have cept billups. Prince plays exactly the same as battier and is less of a leader. The only plus is that Billups is a upgrade over skip or if they just swap rip for tmac. good trade for detroit, bad for houston.

  19. tim says:

    @ truth

sorry, I meant to have Sheed at the 5…got em mixed up… lol

  20. tim says:

I’d rather see the pistons trade for T Mac than Biedrins like I”m hearing reported…come on man…Billups for Biedrins isn’t even fair.

  21. Detroitluv says:

first of al Antonio and rip is going to the rockets for tmac the lineup will be

    chauncey
    Tmac/rodney stucky
    prince/tmac
    Jason Maxielle
    Rasheed Wallace
