Warriors Ink Maurice Evans to Replace Kelenna Azubuike
New Look WarriorsHow many decent players does it take to replace Baron Davis? Doesn’t it almost feel like Warriors GM Chris Mullin is playing general manager with trading cards? “OK, I’ll give you my Baron Davis Topps for your Corey Maggette, Marcus Williams, Mo Evans, and Ronny Turiaf… deal?”
Instead of trying to hold onto Kelenna Azubuike – who the Clippers offered three-years, $9 million – the Warriors are reportedly offering three-years, $6.4 million to Evans.
With Evans, Golden State would be getting an upgrade as a three-point shooter, who can also defend on the perimeter. But they lose the rugged toughness that Azubuike brought off the bench.
Given all of the players that have come in and out of Golden State this off-season, are they breaking even, coming out on top, or losing out?

my general rule is if you lose your best player and don’t get another team’s best player, you got worse.

I like Evans as a role player. He’s a good defender who is pretty tough. In my opinion, I’d prefer him over Azubuike even though neither is going to win you a championship but both are nice subs.

from what it looks like this team aint really do as well as people think in the west. SA, the Lake show, Pheonix, N.O., and Dallas will continue to contend which leaves three spots going to Utah, Denver and Portland or Houston….GS will not be making the playoffs and i think OKC has a better chance

As a Orlando resident I love Mo he is a burst of energy and he brings a ton of excitement to the game I wanted the Magic to resign him the most, eff Keyon have fun watching the playoffs from home . Its a ton of fun watching Mo play and he def does not get the respect he deserves. The guy will defuinately help your team GS is definately getting better BD was a attitude problem and thought he was way better than he is plus Maggette is prolly the #2 best player in the NBA whos never been an all-star (behind Camby)

It really depends. IF Monta can handle running the point, they came out on top. They’ve turned the page from the team that beat Dallas (a team that was NEVER going to win a chip btw and was an 8 seed the 1 time they got to the Playoffs in the last 14 years, so it’s not like they broke up the Spurs) to a youth movement full of potential. If Anthony Randolph and Brandon Wright pan out, this team can legitimately contend in 3 years.
short term though, they won’t be as good next year.

they got worse. maggette is not as good as advertsied. and baron was a stud. mo evans was a good player on the magic…orlando needs to get active in the free agent market again if they wana compete next year.
centaur is still a couple years off from having a polished post game, and w/o that they’ll never get past the celtis and pistons in the east

GS is going down the drain.. losing BD was their downfall they wont get back to where they were and dudes like SJack and Harrington will be leaving as soon as they get chance (guaransheed)… Ellis is only a star in GS BD was their heart now its up to Jackson but he aint gonna get the respect Diddy had.. i cant watch this team anymore.. will only keep up with them for fantasy only

Celts said it best. Their future is bright with the young talent they have, but they won’t be as good next year as they were this year, that’s a given. I know this is cliche, but sometimes you have to take a step back before taking steps forward. I am intrigued by the Marcus Williams pickup though. With the cap room they have on the horizon, they could make some moves to be contenders in a couple years.

Mo is nice. But Kelenna was tearing it UP when he got minutes last year. I’m surprised GS is letting him go as he seems to have a lot more upside than Mo. Mo is solid, great on D, and great for energy, a Ruben Patterson type, but with more professionalism, from what I’ve seen.
The clips are looking solid this year. GS is going to be nice in a few years. Forget about everyone else, the duo of Monta Ellis and Anthony Randolph is going to be sick in 3-5 years.

Kelenna is gonna be a stud just watch. GS jus made a big mistake. I think he will be a steal at 3mil a year. The marcus williams move was good, but they overpaid for maggette, turiaf. Evans is just a guy to have at the end of the rotation in case of injury. I can see golden state have a long, rough season this yr. Over/under on nellie getting canned or “stepping down” should be set at the allstar game

Why not just pay Azubuike? He’s the better player and younger.
