We Reminisce: Dirk puts up 50 points in the conference finals
Dirk Nowitzki has been putting in serious work against NBA comp for a long time, but it was on this day in 2006 when he really arrived as one of the top handful of players in the world — dropping 50 points on the Suns in Game Five of the Western Conference Finals. The Mavs went on to win the series before losing to Miami in the NBA Finals. A pretty good video resume if you want to argue for Dirk as the best shooting big man of all-time.

Bosh’s highest scoring game saw him reach 42 points, and that’s probably because he got to the free throw line 24 times in that game.
He’s consistently around 20ppg, but he’s only seen 40 once and has never seen 50.

I don’t think that yao or kareem have three point range, I should have clarified . . . as for barkley, there are a lot better shooting guys at this size than he. so i guess, i mean: best outside (including three point shot) shooters who are 6’11 and up.

Ashlov, doc makes a good point. Who are your top 10 players? Unless you’re a TD/Shaq/Pistons fan, odds are, in the past 10 years, you’ve been a fan of a choker. And in the 90s, unless your favorite players were MJ and Hakeem, you were a fan of a choker. Beyond that, I don’t know how many times I’ve posted about how Dirk actually raises his game for the playoffs.
Oh well – some people believe what they hear instead of what actually goes on.

Thank you Dag! People don’t realize exactly how talented Dirk is. I loved that game because Dirk put his team on his back and won that game for them. It was also the same game when Tim Thomas was yapping at the mouth and Dirk just started raining buckets on him. Where is Tim Thomas now? I hope Rick Carlisle lets Dirk run free like he used to before Avery tried to make Josh Howard the focus of the team.
