Would You Want Ron Artest On Your Team?

After admitting he made a mistake by not opting out of his contract with the Kings, Ron Artest again finds himself in the middle of a bunch of trade rumors.

According to the L.A. Times, the teams who will be talking with Sacramento about possibly acquiring Ron-Ron include the Lakers, Mavericks, Rockets and Heat. Whether it’s for the lock-down defense, the 20.5 points per game, or the expiring $8.4 million contract, would you want Artest on your team?

Trade Radmanovic for Artest to lakers yeee

  2. miamiVIS3 says:

Last summer I wanted him on the Heat BAD but at this point there is just no place for Ron Ron. The only way I’d take him is if we got a quality point guard or center (which don’t exist on the Kings roster) as well in a trade for Matrix(who is a similar player with a bigger expiring contract). Although if I were the Lakers I’d jump all over him.

  3. yallallreadyknow says:

brad miller is not a decent big to you?

  4. yallallreadyknow says:

yup. you always take a guy like ron artest if you can. he changes the culture of your teams defensive philisophy. just like kg did with the celts.

not many players in the league can improve a teams defense by themself….but ron artest can; hence…every team should be lining up to grab him.

it’ll only cost about $11 million per season; waaaay less than half the league is making anyway

  5. miamiVIS3 says:

    @ yall
I knew that name would come up but I wouldn’t take him instead of $17mill in free cap space next offseason.

  6. Sonics RIP says:

Would I want Ron-Ron on my team? It depends who my teammates are.

If I was on a team that had some hard vets & leaders to make sure Artest stayed within the team concept & remained professional I’d take him in a second. He plays like a warrior and is a true scrapper/hustler & that type of dedication/fearlessness can spread throughout a team like a Nor-Cal brushfire.

On the other hand, if I was on a young squad w/o a tough core of leaders I’d probably pass on him. For all the gifts he has (being one of the top 2-way players in the game), he lacks the emotional maturity/intelligence to be the leader of a pro franchise & act as a role model for a young group of ballers.

  7. Blue says:

i sincerely doubt the kings would make a trade that would make the lakers better! at least i hope not…

i’m on the fence with artest. the last few teams to win the title (pistons, spurs, heat & celtics) were teams that won it playing through each other and playing within the system. sure the star players (d-wade & P-squared) stepped up when they had to but the team as a whole made it happen. i don’t see artest lending himself to that team atmosphere. i don’t think he’s a cancer, but i don’t see him as the consumate ‘team player’.

  8. Raps FAN says:

RON RON needs to go to the raps… reunite with J.O. in Toronto and that’ll automatically upgrade toronto’s defense

If he got traded to the Raps would have a legit Starting Five

    Calderon
    Parker
    Artest
    Bosh
    J.O.

    Bench
    Kapono
    Moon

…. Artest for Bargnani and a pick!

  9. sans says:

Ron Ron puts in work, is a gritty player with a lot of emotion. I’d love to see him in Cleveland for Andersen Varjeo and/or the player formerly known as Big Ben. Cavs could go small ball with either Ron or Bron at the 4, or super huge with Ron or Bron at the 2. I think Ron would improve a lot of teams, especially the knicks.

  10. Damon says:

for what its worth, jo said back in 05 that every business related relationship with artest is over after he demanded a trade. not that this means anything now after 3 years.
the problem with him on the court is his disruptive style on offense. he takes bad shots all the time and just shoots too much from the outside. if he played within the system, he would be great for a lot of teams.
for my pacers, well…you know the story

  11. Amar says:

yes, i think he would greatly improve the defense and intensity of the utah jazz. additionally, our of all of the crazy coaches who kill for defense and grit, perhaps jerry sloan is one of the only coachs that ron may respect and play hard (and slightly focused) for. some sort of boozer/artest trade (plus filler on both sides , or a three team between sac, miami and utah) would give utah deron, brewer, artest, kirilenko solid defensive starters with guys like fesenko, millsap and crew as good defenders off the bench.

  12. Damon says:

can you imagine millsap, harpring and ron all on the court? opponents would cry…

  13. D says:

since I’m a kings fan, he is on my team. but from watching the team and their activity year round I’d say he needs to go to a team where he knows for a fact he’s not top dog (i.e. LA, Cleveland, etc) and where he has a strong-willed coach whom he respects (not cleveland). he needs structure and he needs to respect his teammates. In Sac, he thinks he is far and away the best player. And while that is true in some respects (K-Mart II is a way better offensive weapon) he doesn’t necessarily try and make his team better on the court. I like Ron, I love his intensity, and I think he’s a good-hearted person. I think that he just needs some structure and he needs to play his game and not try and play the perimiter stuff. He’s strong enough to play down low, and that’s where he’s most efficient offensively. and defensively, he’s easily a top 5 lockdown guy.
so just like everyone else is saying, in the right situation, you go hard for ron

  14. steven says:

if i were a team GM i’d give ron-ron a serious look- like maybe the suns- he can run and they need that kind of defense.

he’d be nice for my philly team if they weren’t so young and i don’t see dre miller meshing with him and i’d rather keep miller happy. my other team- the blazers don’t need him. & he’s the the next marbury in waiting so the knicks shouldn’t even give him a look unless they seriously restructure the team.

but yeah raps would be a nice fit for him. can’t imagine Sac-town helping LA one bit so if Artest gets traded it’s going to be the Eastern Conference.

  15. Three Stacks says:

I would love it if the Lakers traded for Artest, but I don’t think Radmanovic is gonna be enough to get it done. I would probably trade Odom for Artest and either Shareef or Kenny Thomas (which would work numbers-wise), and maybe swap first round picks next yr to make it a little more fair.

But I’d wait a little longer if I were the Lakers. Odom’s $15 million expiring contract is gonna be a valuable trade chip all yr long. You never know who’s gonna be on the market at the trade deadline. Odom’s salary is big enough to trade for pretty much anyone in the L.

Why aren’t more teams after Ron? Maybe it’s just a bad rep, but this is a guy that can score 20 points and play lockdown D. And his salary is a bargain! Why aren’t more teams trying to get him? There’s not a single contender out there that couldn’t use a perimeter defender like Artest. I’ve never met the guy so I can’t say if he’s crazy or not, but seems pretty even keel on interviews. I’d take a chance with him anyday.

I wonder if Pacers fans would ever want him on their team again?

  16. Junio says:

    No.

  17. Damon says:

    No.
i love his game. but he ruined our championship team.

  18. David Brandon says:

man, this is tough…i’m a huge kings fan and they’ve been my team forever an always will be. but we need to get better an thats gonna be either w/ ron or w/o him. this kinda reminds me of the situation with peja a fews back. he said what he wanted to say and look what happened. i just think its kinda funny how the player he got traded for is doin the same thing…
outside of that, its hard to really get the same value for ron in terms of what the kings need. i mean, yeah, we dont EVER rebound, but the defense has trickled down to the squad a lil bit. but honestly, ron be jackin’ sometimes. i’ve seen dude single handedly lose us a few close games by his shot selection and unwillingness to pass the rock. i mean, damn ron!, i know kob’ an lbj get down like that, but when they convert, its a totally different story in the paper the next day.

  19. daquest?on says:

the nuggets for his toughness and d, although if ron went to the nuggets that would be the hoodest line up ever, its an episode of when keeping it real goes wrong waiting to happen

  20. daquest?on says:

iverson, jr, melo, kenyon, and ron artest

  21. sunni says:

ron-ron needs to go to a contender..period..its a shame to see a talented guy like that not compete deep in the playoffs…he would definitley take la or dallas over the ’soft’ hump into the finals…

  22. Jonny Drama says:

That guy is nuts! It took a Michael Jordan to calm down Dennis Rodman, I would only take Artest if I had one of the top players in the league.

  23. Jonny Drama says:

To add on to above: I know Rodman won before he was on the bulls, but that whole Pistons team he was on was completely crazy…I think having a team of crazies is the same as a team of sane people, it all cancels out somehow.

  24. AB_40 says:

Golden state, Cleveland, Toronto, Denver and New York.
Should stand in line for this guy. And he needs to have a big time coach or player to keep him straight minded.

  25. Dave says:

Probably not. He’s too selfish and destructive to his teams on the court. If I were comfortable enough in the rest of my team I’d consider it (say the Spurs).

  26. salend says:

cool guy, just heard that h often hook up with those tall models on tall dating site —Tallmingle.com—– really?

  27. DaPro says:

We had him before and he was more controlled in Chicago than any other city he’s played for. Lakers, Rockets, Raps, Wiz any team that needs someone to go to battle with could use Ron

  28. DJ Go Go Gomez says:

Artest and Kenny Thomas to the Cavs for Wally Worlds’ expiring contract. MAKE IT HAPPEN DANNY FERRY AND GEOFF PETRIE!!

  29. Brandon Hoffman says:

Ron-Ron is a former Defensive Player of the Year and he’s being paid peanuts (by NBA standards). The Malice at the Palace will continue to haunt him but he’s been on his best behavior in Sac-town. I’d love to have him on my team.

  30. Big Freeze says:

Just don’t throw beer at Ron and everything is cool. If Lakers get Artest, they will be unstoppable.

  31. Ding Dong We Got Danilo Gallinari? says:

    Will Ron buy the Zen?

  32. bballer 1984 aka king ralf says:

    What about Ron-Ron for Odom?
Wouldn´t the Kings agree with that? Odom shit his pants in the finals, the lakers are missing someone other than kobe, who busts his ass on the defensive end.
but a good deal for the kings too?

  33. josh says:

ron ron will wreck any team he plays for cos he is crazy.

  34. w says:

I’d love for the lakers to get him… But as it has been said i don’t think that sac town would want to help us.

Oh and dime isnt there something you guys can do about those lame ass adds people post in comments?

  35. bring artest home says:

now why in the world would you want to reunite captain jack and ron-ron? anyone know what was the relationship between donnie walsh and ron ron during their pacers days?

  36. eyeused2b says:

I don’t know if the Hornets have anything they can give up for him, but he’d be a good way to cover up Peja’s obvious defensive suckitude. I think CP3 and Byron Scott are crazy enough to keep him focused.

  37. Ashlov says:

Marion for Artest/ B. Miller works. Not sure if Riley wants to expose his rookie coach to Artest, but a front line of Artest / Beasely / Miller is pretty damn nice.

  38. Lee says:

    @ post 13

Ron artest is a good-hearted person .. didn’t he just beat his wife ?????

  39. Willis says:

naw actually his wife beat him so dont go fabricating. Anyway its like D said, he needs a player who he KNOWS is the primary over him someone like LBJ or Mamba. As a Kings fan, i’m ready to give the team to K$ but Artest would have to go. And everybody watch out Hawes is the next McHale and Jason Thompson is the next Cwebb. Kmart is the second coming of Reggie Miller. All we need is a PG baby.

  40. nick says:

if i am not mistaken the kings were gonna trade artest to the nuggets for kleiza and 2nd round pick. But for some reason the nuggets didn’t want to part with kleiza. If they had done that deal they could have done some damage in the playoffs.

also artest on the raptors would be a good look plus they got sam mitchell as coach to keep him in line. would love for him to be a raptor but would probably have to give up bargnani and a pick and most likely artest would leave at the end of the season so not the best deal from that standpoint.

  41. Taj says:

Hell yah, I would take him on my squad! The guy can score defend, and knock your block off whenever necessary, which energizes teamates and fans! I like his game, i’ll take the off the court shit for what he brings on the court!

  42. roger says:

he needs a leader like Kobe to keep him out of trouble. He loves Kobe and Odom by the way. Then again why would the Kings trade him to the best team of the future? Dont forget their rivalry.

  43. Talented says:

    Yes.

  44. Talented says:

I would want Ron Ron on my team/squad/entourage.
