Allan Houston Is Planning Another NBA Comeback

We saw him playing among some pro’s earlier this summer at Nike Pro City, looking like his ratchet is still largely entact. And now that the seemingly annual summer ritual is upon us, in which Allan Houston officially announces his desire to comeback to the League once again, H20 will have to prove that his ratchet can still find the bottom of the net on a court full of pro’s.

“I am going to try and come back this year,” Houston said, adding that his agent has been in contact with a couple teams in the league.

“I never thought of it as retirement,” Houston said. “I thought of it as, ‘I need a break’.”

Houston contrasted his “attempt” to come back last summer, which never really got off the ground with what he’s planning on this year. So instead of that on-again, off-again comeback, Houston is simply flipping the switch for the ‘08-09 season. He says that the knee injuries that hobbled him for the later years of his career have healed, and he’ll know more about his destination after Labor Day.

Would you want a 37-year old Allan Houston on your team?

im sure H20 wouldnt be a good fit in DC. but he could be one in Cleveland or SA.

but no i dont want him in DC. too old n idk bout his D….Boston could use him though

  2. Celts Fan says:

I’d take him. Play him 10-15MPG (til he proves he can/should be out there more anyway) and tell him to just spot up and wait for the kick out.

  3. rob stewart says:

Even if he doesn’t play much he could be a good veteran/coach type of guy. Good locker room presence. He could possibly step up for 15-20 games if someone were injured. If Penny came back last year then I think H20 deserves a try as well.

I’m sure he can still knock down open jumpers, but he can’t be too quick anymore to create his own shot or guard anybody. But he’s probably got a good old-aged MJ fadeaway. I like him, but I think it’s too late for him.

  5. Celts Fan says:

@Shake&Bake, all that’s true, but if any of our teams sign him looking for him to be a quick defensive stopper, they missed the point entirely…

like I’ve always said though, if he (or any athlete) wants to play, go for it. There’s only so long you can, I agree though, it probably is too late for him.

@Rob Stewart – ya, Penny did come back, then he got cut for Luke friggin Jackson. I’d guess H20 would like a more dignified end.

I like the way Houston is doing it though. He ain’t coming back pushing himself to much with talks of being a starter or wanting to be on a championship team. Seems dude just really loves the game. I appreciate that and we need more players like him.

I most def. would take dude on the squad. I am sure that J is still tight and the Rockets always could use more points. He would give a starter a good rest and he is not an offensive liability…defensively well that is something else. Hopefully when dude goes in you got a nice lead that he can add to or just keep it from diminishing.

  7. shake&bake says:

@ Celts- You’re right, but I didn’t mean that he would be a stopper, I’m just saying that he would probably be a target for other teams to attack.

  8. Kobeef says:

Notice to H2O: When you reired the Knicks and the NBA thought you meant “retired”

Your career ending injury allowed the Knicks to write you off the payroll

  9. Celts Fan says:

I know Shake, just laughed thinking that, so I threw it in the post…

  10. sunni says:

id pick up someone at a playground—some new guy who hasnt taken 20 mil and sat on it, and give him a shot to prove himself–theres a ton of ballers in this country who have never gotten a shot and would give allen the business right now for an nba contract

  11. word says:

this guy done already said this before, I wonder how his old ass holds up on the court, my guess is not so well against some of the younger cats but we’ll see, I wouldn’t be surprised if the knicks signed him..

  12. Mike says:

I think he could work in D’Antoni’s style of game with the Knicks. He’d filled in the same type role as Grant Hill did with D’Antoni’s Suns last year.

  13. dukesman2000 says:

Allan Houston reminds me of playground legend Hook Mitchell. He is too old to run with the young cats. Sit down Allan and think about being a color guy for the Knicks or somebody.

  14. Eric says:

houston’s knee is so effed up that he cant get any lift on his jumper which not only affects its trajectory, but it will get blocked everytime!

  15. doc says:

He got cut last year they just didnt put it out there like that. But we would have no use for him in Philly to answer the question.

  16. Ken says:

Does anyone have video of Allan Houston? I would love to see how he looks on the court? How is movement is. How is Defense is? Where can i find video

  17. JT says:

H20 looks good. The garden put some video of him up on youtube taken the day that they re-signed him on sept. 25th. just go to youtube and search ‘allan houston’ and it is the newest video where he hits ten 3’s and a half-court shot. The link is: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv88DVukm1g&client=mv-google&warned=1&gl=US&hl=en

Go Knicks! and I hope he makes the team.
