Baron Davis Wants To Play On Team USA in 2012
Baron in Red, White, and Blue?Chris Paul made the prophetic claim that if Jerry Colangelo held open tryouts for the London 2012 games, everyone in the League would show up to get on the roster. Well Baron Davis hasn’t waited that long to lobby to add his name to the American delegation.
It would be an honor to play for the gold in London 2012 to keep the Olympic title where it belongs, here in the US. What a dream come true. I can hear the crowd now chanting: USA USA USA!
Davis also added that, like everyone else who tuned in, he can’t wait for Ricky Rubio to come to the L, and for Rudy Fernandez to join forces with the rest of the Blazers young, exciting bunch.
You have to love that about Davis. He expresses that same type of real excitement for the game that fans feel whether he’s playing or talking about hoop.
But no matter how much of a fan favorite he is, is there room for Baron – at 33 years of age – to play on Team USA?

No.
Paul, Williams and another one. Maybe Rose.

At least he would tape some of the funniest things in London.

I think BD would be nice for comical value, and if you need some shooting.
A perfect boozer / redd mix if you’d ask me.

I don’t think paul and williams would be that clear cut of a choice if they had tryouts today and they had to go up against baron,he would give them a run for their money at least.
but 4 years with his injury history is a extremely long time

don’t worry Bobbito, he’ll be in hospital when 2012 rolls around. That’s called karma, Baron, you porker! haha

Bdiddy is better than williams or prince.

He would be a great Vet on the team in the role of J-Kidd this year….lets be honest there is NO way Kidd is competing on any level in 4 years I dont care what LBJ says.
Baron would be a perfect Vet PG for the team.
Rock the shit Boom.

Dream on, Baron. Not going to happen 4 years from now–you’ll be too old to hop that bandwagon.

Young Lebron 23 says:
I think they would go with the youth movement and take Rose, Mayo, or someone else but Baron wouldn’t be a bad option. He would be stronger than any European guard and we know how “physical” it is over there.

heartbreaker85 says:
baron’s nice, IF he’s healthy. but he practically plays the same scoring point guard style as gilbert arenas.
one thing about both guys though, they don’t play defense.
chris paul doesn’t too (relies more on a gambling type instead of lockdown one on one), but he’s young and can make plays for others. deron williams is the prototype FIBA point guard really.
someone give a.i. an honorable mention or something!

Coop says:
haha it’s strange- AI has gone from being hated, to mainstream love, now he’s looked down on again. In a league full of PGs who want to be SGs, that seems odd but there you go.

For Bobbito
Actually B-Diddy was on the World Champs team in 2002…I remember a young BD giving teams fits in the lane – back when Brazil had Nene and Varajeo on the come up.
He’s nasty in the international game…

why is everyone saying williams sucks. dwil is nasty man…he didnt play the 1 that much in the olympics, but the guy is legit. and baron is nasty too. he’d be nice for team usa…but if you give someone like baron the nod…why not ai??
btw
why is everyone still assuming the 3pg format for the team. i dont understand that at all. team usa does NOT need 3 pgs, especially w/ wade and lbj on the roster. get another big or shooter in the mix.
August 26th, 2008 at 11:42 am
Mad Max says:
Yeah having 3 pgs really hurt the team this year. Good call
Baron will probably not even want to be on the team when this shit kicks off so its irrelevant

I agree. The 3 pt guard was because they knew Kidd couldn’t primarily handle all the games played with his age. They wanted Kidd mainly for his leadership of the other 2 Pt guards. I think 2 pt guards is good enough and add another big. The wing players will always dominate the games because of their athleticism and ability to create their own shot. I think you do need point guards tho so the 2guards can play off the ball. I wouldn’t mind both CP and Williams back.
As far as Defense and CP. I think he was good at helping pressure the ball which is what they wanted him to do. Williams got beat off the dribble just as much. THe gambling was done by just about every guard on this team. Especially Wade and Kobe. Wade did it more successfully tho getting alot of fast break dunks.
Baron will be 33? I don’t see that happening. He won’t play the Kidd role of experience leader. THe only 30+ player that should be on this team in 2012 are Kobe and Wade if they choose to participate.

Drink The Haterade (Kobe Rocks) says:
Baron can’t play point guard he is too much of a shoot first pg. He wouldn’t pass the ball and every1 would get upset. the chemistry lost. J-Kidd was there for his leadership and he understands better than anyone how to keep everyone involved. J-KIdd does not need to shoot to be effective in a game, Baron on the other hand does.

Mo says:
Baron WILL NOT be on the 2012 Olympic team. Didn’t you hear Bill Walton say around All-Star game time that coaches don’t like Baron? LMAO! Baron is a chucker. There is no place for him on Team USA. He’d better take that movie camera elsewhere.

M, you think Team USA needs comical value? And Baron would be good for shooting? You mean for chucking don’t you? LMAO! He’d chuck them right out of the preliminaries. They wouldn’t even make it to medal rounds.

Baron would be a real nice fit. Of course after so many players seeing these dudes get gold and how gratifying and all it was. Expect more to come out the woodworks to want to play.
I wish Tracy could have made this last squad. He deserves a gold or ring in something dang. lol

lol Safetydan that is cold. Seriously I think he would have fit in with the group and also it finally would have given him something of worth.
Although he did have his chance and was on some I am scurred for security reasons. Still I would have like to see him on this squad.
For real though Safety if your comment carries over it might be comment of the day. That is just cold. lol.

Hell if everyone else is jumping on this USA bandwagon I might as well. I want to be part of the 2012 team. I predict in 4 years that Boom will be riding the “injured wagon” on his way to cashing his checks.
I’ve watched Baron play and the cat looks like he would rather be clubbing than playing on the court for 80% of the regular season games that he plays in.
Besides the PG spots are taken with CP3 and D_Will. I think team USA will want to go big and why would they want 3 PG’s? If so, why do they want him as the 3rd PG?
