BREAKING NEWS: J.R. Smith Re-Signs With the Nuggets
J.R. is back in DenverIt took long enough, but J.R. Smith is officially back in Denver. Despite a full range of rumors that he was coming to a town near you, J.R. signed a three-year deal with the Nuggets.
“His blend of off-the-charts athleticism and long-range shooting ability is rare, especially for someone his age,” team vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien said. “We believe his best basketball is still to come.”
With J.R., Denver keeps their backcourt fully intact. After the Marcus Camby debacle, it’s important that the Nuggets management sends a signal to their squad that they’re committed to putting the best team on the floor.

Scottee says:
I believe this is one of the most overrated signings all offseason. You guys at Dime have been covering how he hadn’t signed with anyone and hadn’t had a lot of interest, but I think there’s reasons…Yes, the dude is more athletic then most of the NBA. Yes, the dude can hit a 30 ft J with consistency. No, the dude does not play defense. Not to mention JR has had his battles with the coaching staff and doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to win the “Teammate of the Year” award. When he’s on the court he’s jackin. He can win a game or lose a game for his team all in a matter of mintues. That shit scares his team, coaches and owners I’m sure. He also doesn’t seem like the smartest Kat in the League either.
With all this said, his tattoos are probably the most fucked up thing about him. I wouldn’t play his ass JUST because he was stupid enough to mark up his body like that. Obviously an Iverson copy cat (like much of the league seems to be now) but seems to have gone A LOT overboard. By the way, I love Iverson’s tattoo game, so I’m not hatin on him or tattoos, I love em, just done the right way…which is an opinionated thing anway, but come on. Stupid ass flames…
The same team that made the most overrated signing, also did the stupidest thing by letting Marcus Camby go. One of the best defensive players in the league, and one of the good dudes too, and they let him go for nothing. I understand there were money reasons, but fuck. I love Kenyon, but he can’t do what Camby can, either can Nene.
I’m out like the Nuggets playoff hopes this year…write that shit down and look back at it in April 2009…

I agree, tatoos are too risky. After I got my tatoo my jump shot quit falling and I started losing friends. Those things probably ruined his chance of every playing with the coveted Utah Jazz.

Yay they can 30 games now!
Oh Snap they wouldve anyways.. no playoffs this year Denver.. hope for a good big man draft pick..
But this might just be what Melo needs in terms of everyone dissin him and team as castoffs.. Hes been needing a fire lit under his a$$ all year.. He let Iverson come in and take that team away from him.. that shouldnt have happened.. he needs to get down and dirty and quit playing like ur nowaday street thug (mostly talk) and play like a soldier (talk when its finished)..
in other words;
PLAY SOME FRICKIN DEFENSE AND POST UP 60% OF YOUR TOUCHES!!

George W Kush Sr says:
Denver still has the offense to make the playoffs, even though the west is stacked, Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis proved that if you can run a shot happy system, and you happen to be playing lights out, you will win.
JR is young, is a great talent, he’s worth a chance to develop, it would have been worse if they let him go and got nothing for him. He would have been useful on a handful of teams: cleveland, spurs, toronto, etc, etc,

And as far as Carmelo is concerned, that guy is one season away from officially being overrated. I feel like Iverson was brought to that team just for the media to use him as a scapegoat for Carmelos failures. Yes, Melo is younger, but he is also a grown ass man with a kid. I have never seen a so-called superstar give up more on their team then Carmelo. The guy is going into his sixth season in the league now..he needs to man up and step up or step aside, period.

@ NYCBalla
I just want to say that your comments need to be thought out a little better if you’re going to come at me. Allow me to run down a list of what you said…
1. “Tatoss are too risky” – I never said that. I love tatoos, yet used how stupid, in my opinion, JR Smith’s tatoos are and tried to use a little sarcasm.
2. “After I got my tatoo my jump shot quit falling and I started losing friends.” – hahah…be real with yourself, you ain’t never had a J and the only “friend” you have is Rosie Palm…
3. I feel like your last comment about the “coveted Utah Jazz” was sarcastic. Allow me to run some numbers. Since 1996, the Utah Jazz have made the playoffs 10 times, playing in the Finals twice and the conference championship twice. In that time, the Denver Nuggets made the playoffs 3 times and never made it past the first round.
While the Utah Jazz, and Utah itself, may seem very boring and methodical, I do believe that the object of the game is to win as much as possible…right? I understand that watching Iverson is MUCH MUCH more exciting then fuckin Carlos Buzzer or Memet Okur (Deron is the shit), they have a system and a Coach that works. They don’t sign guys like JR Smith for specific reasons. The guy is not a winner…fuck potential without character.
I’m out like NYCBall’s intelligence…

I can go for days with this shit…I love the NBA, I love basketball, it’s in my blood. I’ve been infatuated with the game since 6 and played in the biggest games in both high school and college. ppl bustin on melo have to stop. its his sixth year in the league. how many players have won chips in their six year? i dont know either, but im assuming its not many. melo is playing in a stacked western conference, the guy is a legit star….but not everyone can win.
dirks mvp season and the one before, he was KILLING but now his team is probably lottery bound. doesnt mean dirk still isnt one of the elite players in the league.

jr is nice but he is in the wrong place he needs some dicipline it’s seems crazy to have to say that about an nba player but it’s true…a hardnosed no nonsense coach would have been perfect.other wise he will be in this history books as the guy with the worst shot selection ever

Doc, please stop hating. I’m sure that if Iverson knew that the Nuggets were having a fire sale on their players (Camby and Najera), he more then likely wouldn’t have stuck around. Dispite all the hating, Denver still has a pretty stacked team, so I think with a few adjustments they’ll be fine, but your comment is probably the dumbest i’ve seen on here.
