BREAKING NEWS: Monta Ellis Out 3-4 Months

Monta EllisMonta is out

Bad, bad news for Warriors fans. Monta Ellis will be sidelined for at least three months because of a high ankle sprain that he suffered while working out in his hometown of Jackson, Miss. last week.

Ellis was scheduled to undergo surgery on his left ankle in Alabama on Wednesday, according to team sources, after he informed the club late last week that he had injured himself working out. More specifics about how Ellis sustained the injury were not immediately available.

Surgery is needed to repair a torn deltoid ligament, sources said, and the foot will need to be immobilized for the first six weeks.

While Golden State signed Marcus Williams as a contingency plan at point guard, they weren’t prepared to start him on opening night. That’s the way that it looks right now, as Monta’s earliest return could be at the end of November, about a month after the season starts.

What does this injury do to the Warriors’ morale?

Damn 4 months because of a ankle sprain. It shouldnt do much for morale since they werent going nowhere anyway. At least he waited until he got his 65.

  2. G says:

word, there isnt any better timing to get that injury. Kinda like Stat did. He seems like the kinda guy who will recover well. I dont know what im basing that off of. Just has all that energy and quickness, seems like he will heal up well

  3. Ansonious says:

Williams, Maggette, Jackson, Harrington, and Biedrins are your starting five and what that spells is -20 something points a night( which no team is prepared for.) End result they miss the playoffs again.

  4. BALLZ says:

Wow. CWebb leaves because of the Nelson feud, Spree chokes out PJ…then about a decade of complete irrelevance, a one-season playoff revival, missing the playoffs with 48 (!) wins, Boom Dizzy leaves, then 3 months for an ankle sprain for Monta! Poor Warriors fans I sympathize with you. I’m a Cincinnati Bengals fan. Like you, we’ve never been able to take a step forward without 2 (or 12) back.

  5. The Jed says:

Just in case you were thinking about keeping Monta in your fantasy league… you should probably think again!

  6. Daily boy says:

Is this the curse of the “Baron”?

  7. Spliff 2 My Lou says:

Oh well. They could use a 2009 lottery pick.

  8. GEE...Make my funk the p-funk says:

Baron must have been like Color Purple on em. “Until you do right by me, everything you even think about gonna fail!” LOL

Hope Monta heals fast. Man that has to suck.

  9. weezy f says:

i didnt know deltoids were in your foot!

  10. AY says:

it’s the big contract-induced injury, it happens all the time. baron is the master at this.

  11. sans says:

I had an ankle injury like that, except it was a severe sprain. Doctors told me I would’ve healed faster if I broke my ankle. Sucks for Monta.

  12. MSkittle says:

    Kills the morale

  13. LakeShow84 says:

Ouch.. but the draft pick they should get will make them even better next next year..

Sad though i wanted to see how he handled the PG position.. but theres no time like now for Marcus Williams..

  14. that's whats up says:

this reminds me of when the current president george dumbass bush was “elected”.

He got paid (promoted to prez) and then immediately took a month vacation.

    Keep chillin’ Monta, keep chillin’.
Prop that ankle up on those stacks of cash and you’ll be just fine by the all-star break

  15. Young Lebron 23 says:

Damn! Bad News After the first day of school. Damn!

  16. Tha Boddy says:

Monta Ellis is way over rated. The difference between him and Gilbert Arenas is this…Agent Zero is a WAY better passer than he gets credit for. His assists would be like 8per if his 2 main scoring partners both have to put the ball on the floor to be effective 70% of the time. No disrespect to Butler or Jamison cause they are great. Just that they aren’t super assist worthy.Monta can’t pass well and he has no other talent besides scoring…Monta Ellis looks like 2nd to 3rd option

  17. Warrior Worrier says:

Now everybody knows why I use this name. If Marcus Williams does a really good job the first couple months of the season, do the Warriors abandon the Monta as PG experiment? Do they bring Monta back as PG without him even having worked much with the team in that capacity? This is gonna be a challenging year for the Don.

  18. K Dizzle says:

deltoid muscle on the shoulder; deltoid ligament in the foot

  19. solomon says:

    funny…

    didn’t he just resign to a long $$$ deal…

do athletes turn to glass once they’re paid?

    fuck that!

  21. Coop says:

Oh dear. You pay way over the odds for a dude and then he gets injured. Oh well, could be worse I guess but ankle injuries are not what you want in a guy like Monta. Danger, Chris Mullin, danger!

  22. K-Pax says:

Monta is an outstanding athlete…which he wasn’t back in the days:
