Chris Mullin’s Outlook On Warriors PG Situation Bleak
Marcus WilliamsAccording to Chris Mullin, there are three basic solutions to the Warriors newest point guard dilemma. Though none of them should get Warriors fans excited, it’s not the end of the world given that Monta Ellis is only going to be out for a month or so.
* This isn’t much of a “solution” – it’s more of a fail-safe: Marcus Williams plays an absurd amount of minutes, and ideally steps up to the challenge.
“The one thing we won’t do is panic and do something just knee jerk,” says Mullin. “We made our moves this off-season to address different areas, depth being one of them… We’ll look at a lot of different things. There will be no panic emergency moves immediately.”
* In addition to Williams, the Warriors allow some of their best players to be playmakers, running the offense through Stephen Jackson and Corey Maggette. We can see a situation where S-Jack brings the ball up the floor and gets the offense going. That’s not a recipe for the signature Warriors’ fast break, but they could set up a half court offense that way.
“Mullin said he and Don Nelson have already batted around ideas about spreading the floor more,” writes Tim Kawakami, “bringing their bigger players farther away from the basket and–I’m presuming–letting Stephen Jackson and Corey Maggette make the main plays from the wing spots.”
* Mullin is going to watch Shaun Livingston work out today in Chicago. Presumably, Livingston would take the third spot on the depth chart behind Williams and C.J. Watson.
Mullin said he’s interested in Shaun Livingston and indeed will take a long-scheduled trip to Chicago to watch Livingston work out tomorrow. He said it wouldn’t worry him too much if Livingston can’t play immediately because he has enough ball-handlers, even without Ellis.

Only thing is Marcus Williams is like the Oliver Miller of PG’s right now. Unless he’s on that south beach diet he has a lot of weight to lose that he gained during this offseason. He looks like a walking Krispy Kreme donut. Or at least he did when I saw him

I wonder if Chris Mullin is going to buy a new house while he lives in denial?

@Yoo
Really?
That is sad. Williams must be depressed or something because that does not sound like the type of summer a player should have when they are taking possibly a lost shot a making it in the league. Williams has the skills to be an NBA pg so I am not sure why he would slack-off.
If Williams can get in shape this is the chance he needs. The other options are less than exciting.

If Shaun Livingston goes to the Warriors, it will be another chapter to the Clippers/Warriors “Lets steal each others players” game.

hahahaha @ post 2.
Yeah gotta love that Don Nelson halfcourt offence. This was always going to be a disaster but with Monta gone it’s just idiot gunnner central. When did a team last shoot 40% from the field? Heads up , boys and girls!!!

@ Yooo, we hear you and have thought the same thing. Marcus was spotted all over the city this summer playing in different leagues, the best being Nike Pro City. He looked pretty good there, showing that he can take over when he has to, but you’re right, didn’t exactly look like he was in I’m-gonna-take-over-the-world-shape.

… such a shame for a team that really had some promise. Monta going down for only a month of the season isn’t TOO devastating, but they are playing in a western conference that showed us last year, that every game counts.
I think this is going to be good for Marcus. Dude had legitimate skill in college and was really hyped going into the draft… then he got buried behind JKidd on the bench. No telling what happened to his psyche while watching Vince run the show and Richardson going all quiet storm in the locker room.
I’m rooting for him…

This should be good for Marcus Williams, he hasn’t played much since he was stuck behind JKidd. The dude can play, been a fan of his since his UConn days. Plus I don’t think that his conditioning will be a problem because he’s been playing in mad tournaments around the NYC area.

Hope Shaun does well. Really hoping he can make a comeback. I mean it ain’t like dude was doing something stupid to get injured. He was on a motorcycle, or wrestling a buddy or in a pick up game. Dude was trying to make it happen in the L during the season.
So I hope he makes it.
Hate it for Monta, still Monta will be back, I just hope he ain’t lost nothing when he come back.
