Contract Negotiations “Progressing” Between Andre Iguodala and Sixers
AI should be back in Philly (photo. Kelly Turso)This is music to Elton Brand’s ears, as he basically said that his decision to play in Philly was seriously affected by a promise that the Sixers would keep Andre Iguodala in town.
Eddie Stefanski said negotiations with restricted free agent Andre Iguodala are “progressing,” adding, “Things don’t just happen overnight. We’re just in the middle of negotiations.”
With Louis Williams back under contract for five more years, and things looking up with Iguodala, what will the Sixers starting lineup look like next season? Over the summer, when Lou Will has found time to step off the mic at his radio show, he’s spent time with Jason Smith and Thaddeus Young working with former marksman Mark Price.
Price has supposedly helped Javaris Crittenton with his jumper as well in the offseason, and could help to give the Sixers more formidable perimeter threats than they had last season. Even if Williams’ jumper is falling more consistently, you gotta give Thad Young the nod to start as of right now. He looked great in summer league play, and could make the Sixers a really tough matchup if they march out Andre Miller, Iguodala, Young, Brand and Sam Dalembert.
Is that the lineup that Mo Cheeks should go with?

Logan Light says:
Absolutely.
Thad is a beast and will have a monster year for sure feeding off of the double teams that Brand will demand. You got the scoring post option in Brand, defense in the post with Dalembert, and the rest of the line up can run like the Nigerian cross country team.
The Sixers are going to be a problem this season.

Yea that is no doubt the best line-up for philly next year.
If the sixers can’t get a long term deal done with Iguodola I have no problem with them signing him for 1 year and see how he fits in at the 2-guard and then re-asses his situation again next summer.

Hey Kobe "tell me how my Aish taste" says:
The Sixer’s are definitely in the mix…w/Iggy..coming out of the east….
East
Celtics Lakers
Pistons Spurs
Magic
Cavs
Wiz
Raptors
Sixers
Bulls/Heat
It’s hard to say who would be the eight seed.

@ post #6…Hey what about the Hawks? If they get Smith back there definitely in the mix for contender. They took Boston to more games than the Lakers which means there better than the Lakers.

lol…if you think the hawks are better than the lakers you are out of your damn mind.

@Big Shot BOB,
The Hawks aren’t better than the lakers let’s get that straight.
Anywho, I’m stoked because the Sixers are my squad and we are the THIRD best team in the east
1 Beantown(Posey will hella hurt)
2 Detroit
3 Sixers(Last post season will help tremendously)
4 South Beach
5 Magic
6 Windy City
7 Toronto
8 Cavs(Lebron will carry…Again)

Without question that is the starting lineup. And not only that, they come with Lou Will, Kareem Rush, Royal Ivey, Willie Green, Jason Smith, Reggie Evans and the rook Marreese Speights. That’s a nasty lineup.

Marcel P. says:
As a worried Knicks fan, it shames me to see two of the three NY biggest rivals (and the Nets are not far from being respectable again) become legit conference title contenders. Boston speaks for itself and now Philly is making major moves.
That’s the best lineup. These moves help Dalenbeast the most. He can mold himself into a Tyson Chandler-type and be an excellent big because he doesn’t have to score as much now.
Someone told me in a negative way that all Chandler does is rebound, play defense and catch lobs. Works for me.

yeahh i agree what LL said. they got a perfect lineup. a prototypical lineup that shud get them in the playoff mix.. i expect the east to be as competitive as the west..now that everyone in the east is healthy..now we can have a playoff race that is truly deserving of the 8th spot. [srry ATL of 2007 but u went like 36-46?]
n i was thinknn since the east was so mediocre [when playoffs started last yr] that the west shud have 10 teams n the east shud have 6..but i guess im wrong
btw on post @9.. Mr. LeBron Jr. i like ur list of potential best teams hopefulls but Chicago…idk bout that Rose will help. but still he needs a proven scorer [ALA CDR in MEM]. n Miami will deff be improved but the C position is a Q? their lineup will consist of
PG. Banks
SG. Wade
SF. Marion
PF. Beasley
C. eitherr Zo or Haslem
the heat are probly gonna play small ball. or run dmc [suns style]. but the wiz shud be up ther [not bkuz im a bias fan] but everyone is finally healthy.
but LL got it right. Philly shud be MONSTER this yr. unless injuries step in

Big Shot BOB they did a better job than LA in the playoffs as far as playing Boston goes. I more attribute that to matching up well than saying they are the better squad.
Even if they get or got Smith back you still dealing with the same coach. Denver is going to have the same problem as well, great players and a horrid coach.
LA is better than ATL overall I would say but didn’t match up well against Boston or take advantage of opportunities they let slip.
Sixers will be aight.

Kudabeen says:
I like that lineup, but my only issue is who is the backup 1,2,3?
Off the bench Speights and Smith will be fine. Lou will be explosive (1 or 2?). But if/when Thad is in foul trouble or ‘Dre I’ is in foul trouble who is our pressure relief against the Lebron, Pierce/Allen, Joe Johnson/Josh Smith, Hedo/Reshard, Rip/Prince/Affalo/chauncey, etc?
I know Elton will be the go to guy on offense and it should be rare to see Dre I and Thad in foul trouble, but I think about it.
Willie really has to step up off the bench and be more consistent in getting the tough baskets and being a physical defender, but who comes in at the 3 of the bench? Rush…
Sam, Elton, Thad, Dre I, Miller
Smith, Speights, Rush, Willie, Lou
Evans and Royal
I guess I can’t complain, especially if they play with the kind of energy they did last year. They should win 55 games (baring major injury). I would have liked if sixers picked up a vet 3/2 player that could knock down a shot and play a little D (Devin Brown (***), Maurice Evans (***), Bobby jones, Flip Murray, Quinton Ross (****), etc)

FORMER knickerbocker says:
Did anyone see Speights in Summer Ball?? Truthfully I think he will be better than Sammy D (inside/outside, low post, killer 15ft jumper) even though they’ll probly never start him over Sammy this early.
I think we should run with:
1st Team: Miller, AI, Thad, EB, Speights
2nd Team: Lou, Green, Rush, Smith/Evans, Sammy
Or you could run the 2nd team with Kareem and AI at the 2 & 3 - WHOA - you really wouldn’t lose any production

jace says:
that is EXACTLY wut they should be going with.
i REALLY like how speights looked in the summer league.
1st team: miller, iggy, thad, brand, dalembert.
2nd team: lou will, royal, rush, speights/evans, smith.
note: although i thought the second team should be like that.. at no time do i think they should all be on the floor at the same time. gotta mix them in when somebody from the 1st team comes out.
i could care less about willie green. hes a first half player. i cant count how many times i watched the sixers and willie would score like 10-15 pts in the first half.. then 3 pts in the second. if they just trade him out.. thats just more shots for brand, iggy, and thad (who showed IMMENSE amounts of improvement in summer league). plus they got rush whose sole purpose for signing for was perimeter shots. green just takes shots away from more important pieces.
