I Reminisce: Tony Parker Drops 41 points, 12 assists on Phoenix
Over the weekend it felt like I was arguing with everyone about why I’d take Tony Parker over Deron Williams on my team, NBA or FIBA. This is nothing new. The Spurs-hate in the Dime office is thick enough to where I’ve spent hours defending Duncan, Manu, Bowen and Parker, so doing the same with the readers is no different. The thing is, I’m a big fan of Deron’s game and I’ve found him to be a cool guy in person. I just don’t understand how some people view the idea that TP — who has beaten everyone who’s been put in front of him — is better than someone with zero All-Star appearances and zero championships as so crazy. Anyway, don’t think I’m posting this video as a “So THERE!” addition to the argument. I just remembered Parker’s 41-point, 12-dime performance against the Suns in this year’s playoffs and felt like re-living it. Yeah, you could say it’s only the Suns and everyone busts Steve Nash’s ass, but 41 and 12 in a playoff game is no everyday occurrence.

i’m a TP fan, i like the spurs, still just dont understand the hate. nobody wins championships cuz they suck or cheat. its because they are good. or better put, they are better than the rest. its no different than the lakers, celts or bulls, just different styles of doin their thing.

A few reasons why I hate TP:
1. He’s a spur, a hated rival of the Lakers.
2. He’s French with an annoying accent
3. Eva. Nuf said.
Not great reasons, but still…

Kobe put up 49 and 10 against Denver in the first round…….just sayin
You prolly thinkin who couldn’t put up 49 against Denver cuz they don’t play no d, and I’ll respond with who couldn’t put up 41 against Phoenix cuz they d is just as bad.

Nobody is saying that Parker isn’t a very good player, but everyone is saying that Deron Williams is a better player. Deron is a better passer, defender and shooter. Parker is a slightly better penetrator and is a better finisher around the hoop. Parker is a defensive liability too with his small size. In a head to head matchup Deron has the advantage.

Celts Fan says:
TP is the one guy on the Spurs that even the Spur haters have to admit isn’t “boring.” I personally don’t find the Spurs boring. They are a half-court, methodical team, but that simple, constant, expert execution at its highest level is fun to watch. I can appreciate it anyway. I think Tony gets into the Hall one day (too much on his resume already at only 25, only injuries or a huge falloff after Timmy – I don’t see it – could stop him.)
Having said all of that though, I’d take Deron over him in a heartbeat (to defend AB though, you can definitely make the argument even though I personally am on the other side.)

rangerjohn (McCain in '08) says:
i dont know why everyone is all about dwill over TP either, looking at their head to heads from this season,
tp
32 min, 44% shooting, 15.5 pts, 2.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.2 steals
DW 36 min, 395 shooting, 15 points, 2.5 rebounds, 9.3 assists, and 1.2 steals.
other then parker being more acurate (everyone says williams is a better shoot but the % shows different) and williams passing better is an assist friendly system (remeber sloan loves those passes for assists, just ask john stockton) they are pretty even statistically.
that said, parker is stronger mentally, as he has showed in the playoffs the last 3 yrs or so.

You and the 28 non-partial NBA GMs, Jerry Colangelo and Mike Krzyzewski. Ask ‘em.

Actually, they definitely didn’t. Everyone loves a smartarse. You think I’m an idiot; that I don’t know Parker is ineligible?
My assertion is based on the preference of much better – proven by their respective stations in the game – adjudicators of talent than either you or I.
The only reason I may be stupid, is because I think I can convince you of Williams’ superiority.
