Joe Ingles is the Truth
Photo. DraftExpressWe wrote this in SMACK earlier today about Australia’s 20-year old phenom Joe Ingles:
If Patty Mills was his team’s star early, Joe Ingles was THE MAN late. The 20-year-old Aussie phenom checked in after the game was no longer in question and started slinging darts lefty from well beyond the NBA three-point line. He had 11 points in what seemed like two minutes. You knew Ingles was gonna be heard from when you saw those the cold, dead eyes of an assassin, much like Mark Price …
And this is what we wrote about Ingles months ago the old BeBetterThanLeBron site:
Ingles, a member of the South Dragons pro team in Australia’s top pro league, has long been viewed as one of the country’s brightest up-and-coming phenoms. Ingles is a sweet-shooting lefty who can also put the ball on the deck and attack the hoop. And at 6-8 (and growing), he’s a brutal matchup for guards not only in Australia, but also pretty much anywhere in the world. Ingles makes no bones about his desire to bring his game to the NBA…

Kids got a nasty jumper. I didn’t catch his act in the game aganist the US. Does anyone know if he has any plans to bring his show to The League?

I mean would any of our 20 year old future phenoms be sitting the bench on that team.

That comes back to Coach Goorjian, who had a poor tournament.

@ Doc
Good point. The vast majority of our 20 year olds would be starting and staring for that squad. If his game is legitimate, it would be interesting seeing him coming off the bench in the NBA. At 6′ 8″ he would definitely be a problem for someone’s second unit.

I was thinking the same thing. Sure it was garbage time, and sure, the game was over, but still… The guy came in and looked really good! His shots were all net, and I was impressed.

this guy is a beast…we dont see leftys take be the good role player or good starter or even superstar unless ur name is Manu Ginobili.

During the US game the Canadian commentators comments on how stupid the AUS coach was for not having this guy in the line up more. We all know that for whatever reason some coaches should stick to anything but coaching.

lol…this guy will get owned in the NBA….don’t think the league needs anymore over hyped international players

Is Mark Price backballed from the NBA? It seems hard to believe he couldn’t get a job in the NBA if he was interested in coaching…which he obviously is.

K_Digital says:
Milwaukee should bring him in to play alongside Bogut. It’d be worth the gamble. It’s not like the Bucks can get any worse.

Jim says:
I believe he has been over to the US the last two summers for work outs with NBA teams but has not yet declared for the draft, it was mentioned over here that Phil Jackson took a look at him recently, of course he probably took a look at the guy who served his morning coffee to, doesn’t mean he is going to sign him.
Brad Newly, who has been drafted was probably Australia’s best player in the Games, so he might be headed over soon to.
One thing with Aussie players as opposed to Euros, there are certainly no big dollar deals keeping them here so no trouble getting them over in that regard.

Cracker Jack says:
Mark Price lasted about 2 weeks in the NBL (aussie league)- can’t coach, can’t communicate, couldn’t be bothered from all accounts..
Anyone think Newly and Ingles missed something by not playing college ball?? You should have seen Mills a couple years ago, the systems and coaching have done wonders for his game.. now if only he could learn how to pass the basketball..
Hopefully im not the only regular aussie reader.. I’m sure there are many!!

You are not the only regular aussie reader
Joe Inglis should’ve gotten more tick in some of those games. He’ll be ballin the NBA one day and will throw one down over some big guys. The guy is more athletic than he looks.
I know aussies are minnows in the bball world, but our future is bright. Even Newly took Kobe off the dribble more than once, so it wasn’t a fluke… Silver is gold for the rest of the world, USA has underachieved to long, to many ego’s getting in the way, good to see you guys doing what you finally should’ve been doing for the past 8 years, playing as a team!

Another Aussie reader here.
I thought it curious they came out flat in the first 2 games, which ended their medal chances. Coaching ? Lack of chemistry ?
It seemed to be the first Olympics for Australia where they had a number of good quality (mobile) bigs – Bogut, Anderson, Anstey, even Nielsen. Not a John Dorge or Peter Wright in sight !
Does Mark Worthington have an intangibles game that could make him valuable to the right squad in the NBA ?
Go Opals !

MJ says:
Those ragging on Goorj for not playing Joe more lack knowledge. Barlow and Newly were rightly ahead of him at the 2. Barlow was lights out for the entire warmup campaign (and despite what most the posters here would say, based on 5 minutes viewing time, a much better shooter) and Newley was our best wing all tournament.
Drilling a bunch of 3′s in a game that’s done is great but it’s retraded to say he should have been in earlier based on a hot streak. Anybody can get hot. The backcourt rotation we had in place gave Russia and Lithuania the business – why change it? If Tay Prince gives Argentina 15 in 3 minutes tonight, should he start the gold medal game?
You guys need to slow your roll.

All of the above is coming from a South Dragons season ticket holder, by the way. I love Joe, I hope he makes it but he got as much tick as he deserved. No more, no less.
