NBA Trade Rumor: Ben Gordon to Jazz

Ben GordonBG in Salt Lake?

So far, the Bulls idea of resigning Ben Gordon is asking him to come back to the team for the $6.4 million qualifying offer left on his deal. Though it sounds crazy, they might not even be able to afford that much.

With Luol Deng locked in for six-years, $70 mil. (roughly $11.6 mil per season), about $25 million left on Larry Hughes‘ deal, $35 million going into Kirk Hinrich‘s wallet over the next four years, and at least $28 million more going to Andres Nocioni, there’s a real possibility that there simply isn’t any room for Gordon on this roster.

So what can Chicago do? Here’s one possible situation. Sign-and-trade him to Utah. Though they already have quality outside shooting in Kyle Korver, Mehmet Okur, and Deron Williams, Gordon would fill the void that they are most clearly lacking to be an elite team in the ultra-competitive West: a top-level shooting guard.

“It certainly looks like Gordon will not play again in Chicago, but, in my opinion, several things would have to happen for the Jazz to acquire him. The Bulls and Gordon would have to agree to a contract and sign-and-trade arrangement. The Jazz would also have to decide he was worth a long-term investment. I don’t think Gordon or his agent would lose any leverage they have by agreeing to a one- or two-year deal just to get out of Chicago.

However, the finances of any Gordon swap would be particularly tough to handle for the already maxed-out Jazz. For these two teams to make anything work, they’d likely need to break even on dollars.

Certainly, Andrei Kirilenko is Utah’s most logical bargaining chip, and Chicago might be interested in him, although he plays a lot like Deng and Nocioni. It’s possible the Bulls might feel they were duplicating talent by adding Kirilenko.

Plus, the Bulls can’t really take on AK-47′s monstrous deal right now. Instead, for a suggestion not proposed by the Salt Lake Tribune, what about swapping some of Utah’s young talent in exchange for Gordon? Could some sort of package involving Ronnie Brewer, C.J. Miles, and a pick be enough to get the Bulls to ship off a guy that they can’t seem to fit in on their roster?

Utah’s time to win is right now. With Carlos Boozer possibly defecting for Miami or warmer weather when he becomes a free agent next season, should the Jazz try to add a player of Gordon’s stature to make a push in the West?

This is the beginning of the end for Kyle Korver

  • Tranimal

Jazz have been looking for a legit 2 since the days of Hornacek (does he even count?), and someone besides DWill to put the team on his back in a tight 4th quarter. I say, Jazz, pull the trigger.

  • Ansonious

They need another team on the deal, the last thing the bulls need is another small foward on their roster, but who’s going to be hard up for AK-47 is the real?

  • Diego

I don’t know about giving up Brewer. And the Utah ladies love cool Kyle (but he seemed to be pretty popular in Phily, and they let him go).

Gordon would be great for the Jazz, but I just don’t see how they make it happen.

Yes, Kirilenko would just duplicate what Chicago already has (but with a worse shooting touch).

If a trade brews up, don’t scoff at Utah, Ben. It’s actually pretty nice country out there.

since when did Gordon become a legit 2?

  • jmg

exactly! Gordon is a streaky shooter and is undersized at the 2, definitely not legit. please make this move Utah, esp getting rid of Brewer…makes the West a little easier for my Lakers

  • http://www.barackobama.com Jim

@#5, seriously, you count BG as a legit 2 at the same time you knock Hornacek?

  • Zach

    i second #9

  • Al

Ben Gordon would drive Jerry Sloan crazy

  • Scott

BG as a legit 2? Wow. I really think that’s a stretch. He’s way too streaky and he’s best off the bench. This would not be worthwhile for the jazz to take him. It’s a disaster for sure.

  • http://allthatjazzbasketball.blogspot.com/ Amar

this is retarded. like 50-65 IQ level retarted. no team wants AK’s contract right now. and the last thing the jazz need is a 6’3 shooting guard trying to defend tmac, kobe, brandon roy, kevin durant, and crew.

if gordon was so good, why couldn’t he even start for the bulls when he played there? the jazz need help on defense, getting gordon (possibly while moving AK) makes them that much worse on defense. the jazz offense (look at the stats, fools) isn’t broken. heck, AK was hitting three’s at 38% last season . . . (3% less than gordon)

you don’t break up any defensive chemistry your team has (it’s not like the jazz would have any shot blockers by giving up AK) for a career 43 fg% shooter.

    dumb dumb dumb.

  • aj

Jazz better not make this swap. AK-47 is the real deal, he just needs a little less Shawn Marion Ego. Their starting 5 is as good as any in the L. They just need this year to prove it.

Spurs v Jazz in the WCF as long as they don’t get rid of AK.

  • Kobeef

Just like the Bulls, the Jazz have no real use for Gordon. Ben should have realized that the market for undersized, one-dimensional shooting guards is not strong and taken the Bulls offer last year.

This could turn out to be one of the all-time great bad contract-offer decisions. I don’t expect that Ben will pull a Latrell and end up out of the league but it could be close.

  • Meica

Yeah, I don’t think this trade would work, or go through. Local sports reporters have a knack for this trade talk that inevitably doesn’t make any sense.

Short of Boozer, I don’t think there’s a player or combo of players on the Jazz that make sense for the Bulls—the teams are just too similar regarding their overall make-up and game plan. On the flip side, I don’t know if the Jazz believe in Gordon like they would need to in order to execute the trade. Plus, the way Jerry Sloan values the fundamentals Gordon doesn’t seem like a good fit. The only talent Gordon brings to the table in that sense is his fabulous free-throw shooting.

In the end, I think Gordon has priced himself out of consideration for most teams given his inconsistency, height, and lack of defense. Unfortunately for him, he’s going to have to find that out sooner of later, and the seemingly league-wide lack of interest in him should maybe be a good indication.

    Mad Max

you just a dyslexic homo…get the FREAK outta here…

Bama nig*a … anyways Ben Gordon is a weak 2 and def would need D-Will’s guidance.

Do you all think Korver would be gone tho?

  • Mad Max

Anyone who says “1st” or “2nd” is a dick n the ass homo
Someone take the cock out of Sams mouth and stop him from posting

  • dapro

Utah needs a two that play defense against the better two’s in the league

They routinely get killed by the opposing teams 2 man

    Gordon doesn’t fill that void

He gives them scoring and clutch baskets though

I wouldn’t make this trade for either team. Chi-town doesn’t have a spot for AK-47 or Brewer or Price

  • MoxWestCoastRep

BG has been overrated since Uconn. He should have taken that first pay day the Bulls offered. He’s a good 3rd option but will never be the man.

  • shake&bake

21st jk. I don’t really see this trade happening because it is not very enticing for either team. Maybe for the Jazz a little bit because they get a 2 with scoring ability (most of the time). However, Gordon is too one-dimensional and doesn’t play any D. Sloan wouldn’t like that too much.

  • Sam I Am

    HEY MAD MAX…

You can take your faggety self outta here.

I will report you to DIME for being a queer.

    LOL

  • Ansonious

@ sam i am & mad max all I have to say to you two losers is gayness confirmed you’ve got pole! Seriously you two must seek therapy or move to San Fransico. Yesterday it was racism on the Calderon issue and today gaydom express for no real reason at all. Some people and their kids I tell ya.

  • Coop

This rumour is a big ton of BS imho. Utah wouldnt want to pay out 11mil or so to Gordon, and noone else wants to right now either which is why Gordon, if true to his word, is going overseas.

By which I mean, he’ll either sig the quali offer or he’ll be taking less than he wants.

  • RENO

They haven’t got it done with the current roster… Why not pull a pheonix and shake things up???

  • Sam I Am

    sorry guys

  • BARACK OHATEAH

BEN GORDON BET NOT LEAVE THE BULLS CAUSE HE AINT GONNA DO ISH BUT BACK UP DERON WILLIAMS! BETTER STAY IN THE EAST, THERE ARE SOME BIG BOYS OUT THERE IN THE WEST HE WONT BE ABLE TO GUARD! PLUS THE JAZZ AINT NO CONTENDER NO WAY!!!

  • HATE!!!!

HOLD UP….. WHY WE EVEN TALKING BOUT THE JAZZ!?! IT’S THE JAZZ PEOPLE! THE UTAH JAZZ!!!! SMH WITH DISGUST!!!

  • Pskila

Let the man go overseas. The Bulls are wasting their time with him, they are not a playoff contender so just try to rebuild with a solid nucleus. Where is the post player that they really need? John Paxson better watch his @#$ if he wants to keep his job, he has made several costly errors in his judgement of talent. The Jerry Krause “curse” is lasting longer than what was anticipated. If Reinsdorf doesn’t stop being so cheap the fans will eventually stop coming to those garbage games.

  • 2 mins “Vinnie Johnson”

Why does everyone have to be a Kobe, DWade or LeBron

BenGordon is what he is, no he’s not 6’6″…but Sir Charles was not 6’9″, you take a players strenghths and utilize them to overall good of team…

Chicago has not had a legit coach since Phil Jackson

You don’t average 18.6 points a game on a whim

  • 2 mins “Vinnie Johnson”

BG does not fit in Utah’s system….unless he’s 6th man

He could be like Vinnie “The Microwave” Johnson!

  • http://GEE2.com GEE…the twalet (toilet) is a wonderful and amazing thing!

I am all for it! Anything to bring Utah down, put Sloan on a new squad or retire and give Utah a new system to try.

    Go Ben!

  • Tha Boddy

Well Gordon in Utah could work…they could get D-Will to guard the shooting guards since he has the power to hang with them. But that means on most nights in the West D-Will has to use all his energy chasing the other teams best player or best scorer and that might take a toll on his offense…Utah could use Larry Hughes more but will they pay for him???

  • Homeless J

It’s no coincidence that Dime has been posting a string of youtube videos lately of great 2-guards slaughtering the Utah Jazz.

This trade would definitely not help them in this area. they’ll just get slaughtered even more if they try to start BG. They did the right thing by drafting Brewer, a tall, lanky, defensive 2-guard who can at least hassle all the dudes who light them up on a regular basis. They should stick with him unless they can find a LEGIT sg to trade for.

  • doc

Ben Gordon is NOT a TOP LEVEL 2 guard.Sorry fellas.

  • heartbreaker85

if i were sloan, i’d trade BOOZER for GORDON and not AK47. booze has been great- in the REGULAR season. you saw it last year, d-will stepped it up, and even AK to a certain extent.

the only reason why ak’s number has dropped is because they moved him to the SF spot wc isn’t his natural position. he’s more like that freelancing pf who thrives in the post.

boozer to me is overhyped. yeah he can score, but he can’t defend anyone too. much like a more polished version of kenyon martin back in his nets days.

  • Borgs

Gordon to the Jazz? Not needed. No improvement. Not happening.

  • Coop

Heartbreaker what are you talking about dude?

Bozz is not, and never has been, anything like Kenyon Martin.
Secondly, If you trade Booz for Gordon then Utah becomes a strictly perimeter team.

    Awful, awful idea.

  • heartbreaker85

well okay, maybe so, but booz still makes an awful lot of money to post 20-10s in the regular season but doesn’t show up in the playoffs.

i’d say build a core around d-will. the league is ruled by guards/ those who face the basket when scoring anyway. it’s the rules man, post-up players look old in the nba because the league wants everyone to play like a guard and not slow it down.

  • dickwilly

Its an interesting idea. probably wont happen, but if they could work it out so they could keep ak, booze, williams, okur and brewer, I really think they could benifit from the deal. jazz fans everywhere know we lack defense, thats why putting andre out there for anyone aside from a defensive big man ie. Sam Dalenbert, or okafor is idiotic, and wont happen. package up some bench weight, and send some “roll players” to chicago.

and as for the half wit that says the jazz arent contenders; you probably watches too much ESPN, and not enough basketball. last I checked chicago was barely over .500 in the laughing stock of profesional sports (the NBA’s eastern confrence) and Utah was #1 in the northwest.

  • http://dimemag.com Vonnie

Get of little BG. I’m from the Chi and I’ll tell you the real deal. No Ben is not a legit 2 guard. He is a great 6th man to come off the bench and give you instant offense. If he had been on a real team he would not seem inconsistent. Our stupid GM and owner have some love affair with Kirk Henrich and over paid him. So now BG mind you, the highest scorer on the team has to compare his salary to what you gave that scrub and he has every right to feel he should make more than him. BG has to take the last shot and nobody says nothing when Captain Kirk turns the ball over 6 times, but Ben gets sent to the bench for being inconsistant. The Bulls management needs their asses whooped for destroying the house that Mike built and putting that garbage on the floor without trying to put some talent around Rose. This season will be ugly and I hope it doesn’t destroy the young rookie.

  • http://dimemag.com Vonnie

Hate check your stats. That was “Craptain Kirk” that led in turnovers. Why can’t they trade him? Because nobody wants him and that contract he will never be worth.
