The Knicks Are Going to Give Stephon Marbury One More Chance
The Knicks now want Steph? (photo. Chad Griffith)Believe it or not, after signing Anthony Roberson and Chris Duhon, and all but telling Stephon Marbury to get lost, Knicks GM Donnie Walsh is now singing a different tune.
Walsh said that Marbury has been a very good player in this league, and he’s not sure what has happened here but he’s worked hard this summer and has a clean slate. They want to see what he can do when he gets to training camp.
This has to be a shocker to everyone in the Knicks’ organization. Though Steph rambled on in the middle of a Knicks summer league game about how he was ready to get back on the court and prove some people wrong, his name has surfaced recently only with trade rumors and crazy talk about that Mike Tyson head tattoo.
Do you think that Steph deserves another shot as the Knicks try to move past last year’s debacle of a season?

I think in D’Antoni’s system Steph could thrive, as long as hes willing to be a team player (bere in mind he’ll be a free agent after this season so its in his interest to show how good a lead guard he can be …again!?)

F*** it! It’s the Knicks – ANYTHING goes!
Plus Donnie Walsh will play nice, to make sure Steph plays nice (and productive), then he’ll ship his ass outta town real quick with the first decent offer.

yeahhhhhh i hope the beast is back…speaking of the twolves i was watching an old game yesterday on VHS, it was steph’s 21st bday and they played against houston when they had barkley, drexler and the dream and willis, barkley was coming off the bench for that squad..
anyway steph was killing drexler, maloney, ellie and anyone else they put in front of him..he finished with 35 and 12 i believe..on the down side he was getting was too many turnovers which has been a theme thourghout his career even though he racks up assists…
garnett played the same then as he does now rarely ever going in the post and when he did he was clearly unstoppable, was hasnt he never averaged 35ppg i dont understand..
but if steph can show any flashes of the new jersey years when he had his explosiveness and was dunking on cats…ny we back…trade curry, randolph asap

The Knicks know they aren’t going anywhere right now. By playing Steph there is a chance (however small) that he can show he still can play and that he really isn’t as crazy as everyone thinks (knows) he is, and perhaps they can get something in return for his contract in a trade.

dc says:
as a knicks fan, i’m ready for the “starbury era” to be over, but i can understand why he’s still on the team. his contract makes him untradeable, but it would also be a waste of money to cut him. they might as well bring him to camp & see what kind of shape he’s in. if he’s gets out of hand, just don’t play him. it’ll hurt him more to be a backup to anthony roberson than to feel unwanted by being asked to stay home.

@ Celts Fan
Chill out!!! LOL. Man, give him a shot. Roberson, Robinson, and Duhon AIN’T the answer. Steph is still a good player. He lit up Seattle last yr. for like 40 and gave Deron Williams the DRUGS in the Garden.
Yeah…it seems like he has mental issues but we shouldn’t be mad at him for that. That is a sickness. I still think he is capable of dropping 20 and 8.
ESPECIALLY in D’Antoni’s system. And I don’t want to hear anything about his D. No one in D’Antoni’s system plays D.

fiyaman says:
f**k steph.. the only shot he needs is a shot in da ass,, a gun shot, a TB shot, shot of Tequilla, a shot of seeing if he can go a entire season w/o throwing a tamptrum..
like I awlays say who gives a f**k about stats.. stats r for people who dont watch the games.. I care about winning .. Steph is not a winner never was never will be.. Send his ass to Spain so they can through bananas at him ( ok maybe thats a little harsh but get him out of NY.. ANd Please Miami do not sign him I am just starting to like u guys..lol

BxBaller says:
YES. I was hoping that they would give him one more chance. Steph will KILL this year, trust me. He is still a very talented player and is a top 10 pg in this league still. With Steph, Crawford, Lee, & Q/Chandler running the break, it’s going to be a fun season.

And you know this is the land of showmanship. That is why many love the Stephs and the Skips. I am not ashamed to say that NY Ballers are flashy and we GET BUCKETS!! LOL
August 14th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
justice says:
@fiyaman
who on our team is a hardnosed defender right now? steph is not the best but he gives effort same thing with Q same thing with nate and Duhon..we will be ok chill out a 1-2 punch of steph, and duhon isn’t bad, with jamal and nate…we will get out and run and that what mike will be looking to do…
in a nutshell none of those dudes on the roster are even half as decent as steph and donnie knows that
August 14th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
fiyaman says:
@Harvey I agree with you about the NY style of BB but as we can see that hasnt been winning games for us or anyone else. I love the flash and seeing guys put up points but I also love the days of Oakley, Ewing, Mason, Starks, Childs, Harper, those were the days of winning. Ever since we got all these so called ‘scorers’ ( or ever since we got Starburst) we have sucked. So my pt is I dont care howmany pts u score, how many rbds u get, how many asst, blks, stls etc. if it doesnt translate into winning I want nothing to do with it. Hell half the NY strt ballers could probably give most NBA ballers buckets but that doesnt mean they can win. and thats one of the reasons they not in the L.
@ justice
thats my pt no one on the team defends but that doesnt meant no one should. So b/c the rest of the team doesnt play defense its ok.. NO Starburst is the so called leader and people follow the leader. I bet i he starts to play D the team will follow. Dont make excuses for him he’s a BUM and everyone and their moms knows it.. And I agree he probably has more talent then anyone on the team but again what does talent mean if u dont use it.
Dont Trade him
Dont play him
send his ass home .. pay him.. and then next yr our salary is $22 mil less and we can move on from there.. I think if he’s around the team his penchant to being a starter is gonna be a bad influence for everyone around him..

George W Kush Sr says:
Steph’s last 2 coaches were Thomas and Brown.
Both had no clue what do with the roster, not just Marbury.
I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, Steph is an unbelievable asset to have coming off the bench. As a 6th man who can come in and complety fuck up the opposition’s defense.
If people here are thinking that he wants another chance so that his game changes and is more like Nash or Paul or Williams, yall are smoking crack.
Why not give him another “chance” ? He’s in a contract year so you know he’ll be playing all out, and he’s been taking a lot of blame for the franchise, management owes it to him.

those were great times i agree…but dude those teams always lost to a team with a prolific scorer, reggie,mj,hakeem…the knicks were losing b4 steph dude remember the howard eisley and clarence weatherspoon era was b4 steph and isiah…those were the worst knick teams ever
and ny basketball may not produce the best defenders in the world but not the worst either!! dude u are talking like steph is steve nash or something the reason isiah got mad with steph is because he has the tools to be a lock down defender but he wasnt bringing it on every possesion just like lebron he just can’t put it all together for 48 mins…and even if he does play d where’s the help coming from? zack?jamal?eddy? it has to be a team effort this is not the rec league…u can’t shut a guy down alone…
i would be more mad at eddy curry if i were u…nate out rebounds him every night..why does he have a job

Reed Ewing Frazier says:
Who in their right mind thought he was going anywhere in the first place I already had said on other blogs he wasn’t going nowhere. Man we shouldn’t trade anyone including Curry and Zach unless it is for O.J. Mayo Donnie Walsh is not giving me any hope that he can turn my beloved Knickerbockers around so I hope he just keeps the team we got now lose again this season get a top ten pick hopefully he won’t waste it again like he did this year. But I love how people always have something to say about STEPH hate is the new love. I do agree with you Kats that said Steph will shine in D’Antoni’s system.
@fiyaman Yeah I think MAYO will be the biggest star out the draft he is a beast I’m telling you man that lottery was some bullshit!!
@the mamba I hope you are right about D.Gallinari I still think we could have got this dude in the 2nd round but oh well D. Walsh is the G.M. But MAYO will be the best out of this draft just watch.

@justice
all pts are gd so i argue..
the only comment i have is about TeddyBurry..
im wit u .. I cant stand the dude and I agree he should be trade ( i was upset when we gave up #1 picks for his fatass) but the reason I stay on Starburst is b/c he is the vocal one he is the 1 always trying to put him and NY as 1 ( i know he from there but the fact u cant talk to him w/o him trying to put all of NY with him brings more heat down on him.. U dont see Bron always talking bout how he from Ohio, or Haslem talking bout how he from Miami)..
when u always bring up NY in ur speech and not backing it up we gonna get on ur ass ..thats who we are.. Now he is supposed to be the leader, (self proclaimed best PG in da L) so he put himself in the spotlight with all his BS.. so he gonna take more crap than anyone else.. thats al im saying.. Curry needs to go but Starbusrt is the face of the team so until he leaves he will always get da blame. Imagine if he plays the goodboy role this yr and we make the playoffs who do u think gonna get all the credit?
If Curry was the MAN on the team trust we would have been more vocal about his fatass also.. Beside this team has sucked since Marbaury got here. We need him out to turn that corner..
LOL sorry bout the long post but IM @work bored as hell and there’s nothing on the Internet to read except this..:)

@GW Kush, you realize the reason Steph got tossed for the year last year was cuz he protested and left a game cuz he wasn’t starting. He will not come off the bench.
ALL of you guys are just sitting there talking about the good times, ignoring the truth. Y’all need a battered women’s, err fan’s shelter, for real.

yeah i said it worst than zaza, darko, andrew bogus, brendan,WHOEVER the warriors start,AND WHOEVER THE BULLS start..this guy and jerome james going at it in practice might be the reason isiah went phucking crazy,id bet herb williams can get in the game with his suit on and get more boards than curry and herb sucked ass he was on the bench behind charles smith..

@justice and fiyaman ya’ll wrong for that Charles Smith comment but at least he got married to that fine shorty that was on BET damn she was bad. Plus before he came to the Knicks he had some game. Word to Herb!!
@Celts Fan Funny line slim but all the knicks fans on this blog knows that we suck right now there is nothing wrong at looking at the bright side of things we know tha truth just like you know Philly and T-dot are going to bust your boys ass this season in the division.
KNICKS UP!! all the rest down!!
August 14th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
Celts Fan says:
@Reed, nothing wrong at all, but those of you expecting a real contribution (without the constant complaining that come with having him on your team) are thinking of the Marbury of 3 years ago. Your best bet is to just buy him out so you still get the cap relief at the end of the year (LeBron in ’10, I know, I know…) without actually letting him poison your team.
Maybe I’m wrng, hopefully for him I am, you don’t want the last thing you’re known for to be, “You getting in or what?”

GEE...who dat? says:
He deserves another shot yes. In the same capacity no.
Still I feel he should go overseas and do his thing. If he found a squad willing to take him, why not go recreate your legend there.
Crunchbury should take his show on the road. If he trying to stay in the L. he need to come with more than what he has done and stay correct.

i posted this yesterday. yall late. he also said david lee is untouchable, and the ticket holders in the crowd all got up and applauded. He said balks had to leave, because we had nine forwards, he wouldn’t have played or raised his value. Steph will hopefully finish this contract right here in NYC. I like my players selfish, and a little bit off, lmao, Crawford and Curry are just too soft for me, not nYers. Go Starbury. Yes. 19&9 back to business. Isiah and LB tried to kill his career averages.

ssr2020 says:
I am a Raps fan for life, but I had to say this by the best way I can. I think the Knicks should get rid of the two ( z-bo and curry ) cuz they both suck, but remember only reason they want them both out is bcuz this is Dantoni’s system, and it’s a run and gun no defense system, so by basically signing the coach you are turning your team into a defenseless offensive team, which would make ur team bound for the lottery again, you know what I think, make your team the worst team for the next two years, tell all the Knicks fans to be PATIENT! And have two solid picks to solidify your team needs, and hopefully get all the shitty players the hell out of the Knicks team, i.e. Q-rich, Z-bo, Curry, Marbury, and if you can somehow James too! if you can do that in the next two years your team will be good, and hopefully one of the top four players from the 03 draft will be on your team (not bosh of course) and you will be a good looking team both on paper and the court. Sure it will piss your fans off like ass! For the nest two years, but face it the east has gotten a lot tougher i.e. cavs just getting mo Williams, raps getting O’Neal, pistons rumors of Carmelo T-Mac and a few others, Orlando still standing tall, and Philly doing their part by getting brand, hawks they made it to playoffs and had a good run, and the champs i dont need to add anything about teh celtics! and the nets even though they seemed destined for lottery for a couple seasons to come, they suddenly changed it all by getting NEEDS and not WANTS which the Knicks have been doing for the past 10 or something years, if you don’t trust me have a look at realgm.com, where they talk about the history of the Knicks heres a link
http://knicks.realgm.com/articles/25/20080808/the_history_of_new_yorks_drafts/
It shows what the Knicks did and how they messed up a team that could have been. I cant believe I’m talking like I’m a knicks fan but I just can’t help it, hopefully the Knicks front office hears this and understand how they messed up and become a better team from scratch. plus imagine the team you will have with a young nucleus like the Portland Trailblazers ( NOW THATS A TEAM FULL OF YOUTH, YOU HAVE TO LOVE THE GM FOR WHAT HE DID TO AND FOR THAT TEAM ) AND on top of that he will have cap space next year from expiring contract of Reaf Lafrentz who I think makes like 12 million, and on top of that he also has the money coming soon from the money he bought out Steve Francis. that man is god, then from my team BC (Brian Colengelo) he made our team from shit box to one of the better teams in the east, and thanks for getting Jalen Rose’s contract from us and a pick and I think u drafted balkman with that pick I’m not too sure but you basically cleared cap space from us for BC to come to our team. THANK-YOU VERY MUCH FROM MY BOTTOM OF MY HEART.. Plus I think you traded him to clear cap space and waived the ppl you acquired, which gotta suck. thats why you gotta think long term and short before you make a move in the nba. you gotta be smart. im not saying or acting like I know everything in the nba, but its simple you screw up and learn from the mistakes, not screw up time and time again and not even learn anything from it! Man hope you guys understand, and become a good team bcuz now its turning into an embarrassment which is even pissing me off. But yea I just felt like saying this and so I did. Later peace!
release marbury!
