We Reminisce: Carlos Boozer’s career-high 41 vs. Washington

Like we said earlier this morning, Carlos Boozer got more PT in commercials than he did in the games at the Olympics. So in case you forgot why Booz was a part of Team USA, here’s a refresher course: March 26, 2007, he dropped a career-high 41 points against the Wizards, including 16 in the fourth quarter. Out of everyone on Team USA, Booz probably gets overlooked the most as far as being a legit NBA star. Do you think Boozer really is THAT good, or more of a byproduct of Deron Williams’ talent?

Boozer is def. good but not good eneough to do it w/o D-Williams. When he was in the Cavs he was showing that he had potential but just need a PG that could get him the ball. He has developed an understanding for the game and enriched his fundemantals. He should of gotten more playing time for team USA!!!!!!!

  2. sumthinfresh says:

    puhlease …. boozer is a candy-ass jabrony

  3. Michorizo says:

Doesn’t every power forward need a good point guard to establish his career? Or he can go the KG route and get two other great players and a pg who can defend and dribble the ball past half court.

  4. Dagomar says:

Boozer is damn good – he was pretty good in Cleveland as well, and that was before Williams. He has a very diverse skillset, which indicates his points don’t just come from his PG – there aren’t many ally oops in that 41 point game, after all. He doesn’t have the diverse offensive game or versatility of a Chris Bosh or KG, but he’s a wide body and he’s fast enough to get into the paint whenever he wants.

  5. Ashlov says:

If you put Boozer alongside Dwyane Wade and Michael Beasley, he’ll definitely shine. Wade is great at making other players better, even more so than Deron Williams. While I haven’t been shy about voicing my preference for a Wade-Lebron-Beasley trio, the more realistic Wade-Boozer-Beasley trio would definitely not disappoint.

I’m from utah, and I’ve got to say that Carlos Boozer is good, but he is a even better player because of Deron Williams, but that is the point of any point guard, to make the other players better.

  7. Dave says:

Boozer is top power forward with or without Deron Williams

  8. Kobeef says:

Boozer is a solid player but is small and not as athletic as you’d like your PF to be. We’ve made this list before but there is a long list of PF’s in the game today who are better

Top NBA PF’s (if you could draft any PF today)

    1. Duncan
    2. KG
    3. Amare
    4. Dirk
    5. Gasol
    6. Bosh
    7. Brand
    8. Jefferson
    9. Boozer
    10. Horford

Boozer is near the bottom of the top 10 and is soon going to be overtaken by the up-and-comers. He is not the star that some (and he) think he is.

  9. C says:

More of a by-product of Sloan’s system (which plays to his strengths) than of Williams.

  10. Joe says:

What is with all these, “so ans so drops 40+ so how good is this guy really?” stories? I seem to remember a guy named Tony Delk dropping 50+ at some point, are we going to get that youtube video with an article too?

  11. Austin Burton says:

As soon as I find it.

  12. Diego says:

Kobeef’s list is pretty good regarding Boozer’s status right now, but I’d say (a) he is better than Pau–who is just at this stage ridiculously overrated–and (b)radically better than Horford. I love Horford, but he was just a rook, and 2-3 years from now it might be a different story, bet let’s not count potential (or we’d be forced to put Rasheed on the list according to many).

Even 8th on the list, Boozer is the real deal.

  13. T Dubbs says:

Wow, Boozer scores 40 because Washington doesn’t know how to box out… impressive.

Put Boozer against some real players (see ’08 playoffs against the Lakers), and he looks average at best.

  14. KCL says:

In my opinion, Boozer is the best True PF RIGHT NOW behind only Tim Duncan when healthy. its argueable that KG is better but at this stage in KG’s career Boozer beats him in a matchup. the young up and comers like Beasley, jefferson and Horford will prolly be better than him soon but right now he’s better then them. having williams as his pg def helps but he would help any PF in that position. Bosh, Gasol, Amare, Brand and Dirk are all supior to Boozer on offense, but lack the defensive presence Boozer has. And this is a Laker Fan talking

  15. doc says:

Boozer is what he is.A good hustle player who gets 18 and 10 consistent. He cant step it up a level for the playoffs because he is what he is.Hes strong and goes hard, but its dudes better than him.Which is why he was our Darko for the Olympic team.

  16. T Dubbs says:

    KCL –

Boozer isn’t even the best PF on his own team (I think Milsap is better, and will only get better with more PT), let alone second best in the NBA.

I started laughing when you said Boozer was a “defensive presence”. Boozer isn’t a shot-blocker (there are guards that average more bpg than him), he plays soft 75% of the game, and his body language/laziness was only second to Manny Ramirez.

  17. J Tok says:

If you’re questioning D Will and Boozer like that, would you say the same about Malone and Stockton?

  18. Ian says:

    kcl
lol defensive presence i can score on boozer all i want
the guys u mentioned to compare his defense to are all soft except for brand
and only a HEALTHY duncan is better lol an injured duncan is also better than booz

    t dubbs
comon man manny is one of the greatest ever lazy(crazy) and all

  19. Ian says:

    j tok
thats so fukin true but i didnt want to mention it
its like doc said u r what u r hes a 18 10 guy no matter who he plays with

i personally think malone is the most overrated superstar ever (bill walton counts?) but thats what great pgs are supposed to do make shit easy

  20. T Dubbs says:

    Ian –

I agree Manny is one of the best hitters ever, with one of the strongest outfield arms also. I don’t know what happened to him… he used to be play with heart. I think he cares more about how tight his dreads are nowadays.

  21. Ian says:

    t dubbs
comon nothing happened to his production which is the important part

  22. tommy the cat says:

Deron williams isn’t THAT good. Booz is solid. I’m a huge Bosh fan, but you look at their numbers and it’s hard to argue that Boozer isn’t just as good.

  23. mon says:

anyone that talks about boozer’s inside presence and post moves doesn’t watch jazz games and/or is a fantasy player whose only knowledge of boozer is based on the box score. watch a few and you’ll find out that he has no post moves (or chooses never to use them) and spends all his time shooting fadeaway mid-range J’s. karl malone would eat him for breakfast. ronnie brewer had twice as many dunks as him last season.

  24. HUH!!!! says:

    @ tommy the cat

HOW in the fuck is Deron Williams not that good?

Boozer took Amare’s place on the team simple as that. He was the next best PF available.

  25. MSkittle says:

Boozer is nice! He averaged 21 ppg and 10 rpg last year
