We Reminisce: Isiah Thomas Before the Front Office

With all the talk about the Knicks and Steph it got me thinking about Isiah Thomas. His GM and coaching moves have been under the scrutiny of fans and basketball analysts throughout his post-basketball playing career with the NBA.

Some say that because of all his GM moves and coaching follies mixed with the MSG scandal, his legacy has been tainted and even forgotten.

Well if you forgot, Thomas was THAT DUDE during his basketball career. Running things with the Bad Boy Pistons back in the day ‘Zeke was the perfect blend of a scoring point guard and a distributing PG.

Check out these old highlights of Isiah…and appreciate the soundtrack.

  1. doc says:

Now this point guard was the MAN on a chip team.

  2. GEE...who dat? says:

    ill.

  3. Jim says:

I don’t think people who are too young to remember Bad Boys realize how beloved Isiah was. The media loved him and loved his story. Weren’t there TV movies about his mom? Not to mention knocking off legitimately great teams for those championships.

  4. GEE...who dat? says:

Dime I know on your poll I think those are all current coaches. Perhaps he is to old now. I still think had he tried John Thompson could have done well in the NBA.
Just GEE but I think had he been coaching the Knicks when they kept falling just short. Outside of time and chance I think J.T. would have increased their chances to get more.

I am bias though cause I always have thought that JT2 was the shiznit. His son is doing well too.

    Back to Zeke.
    Ill.

  5. Reed Ewing Frazier says:

I still got love for Zeke but I’m glad he is no longer running and coaching the Knicks but he is number one all-time point guard of the NBA period!!

KNICKS UP!! all the rest down!!

  6. doc says:

    @reed I give him 2nd behind Magic.

  7. doc says:

@gee I would take Thompson over all them coaches too because I dont got none of them being successful NBA coaches.

  8. GEE...who dat? says:

    LOL doc.

I would say Magic first too. doc you don’t think Coach K would be successful. Come on man? Matter of fact I got Coach K coming to the L in say 3 years.

I know it’s a different beast coaching grown men compared to college cats with no money. Still I think, when dudes know you are a regular winner on different levels, they come in with a lil respect and are willing to go through that brick wall for you as long as they winning.

I think Thompson would have done well. I think Coach K is going to do real well.

Rest of them cats…not so much. Although to their credit Tom and Roy can coach the crap out of a college game.

  9. E.J. Rios says:

I love this video, i’ve watched it hundreds of times. I wish the dvd’s and videos that the nba comes out with now were more like the original superstars. they should do a superstars 4 with kobe, cp, bron, dwade, kg, baron, and a few others, that would be sick.

  10. Logan Light says:

Dude was cold. I wish he hadn’t ruined his rep by destroying the Knicks. If he could undertake some sort of PR campaign… sigh.

  11. doc says:

@Gee-If any of them dudes come they would have to switch they whole style up.That army discipline shit Coach K do aint gonna fly in the league. Its cool for the Olympics because everybody on that patriot best behavior thing right now. He’ll get his feelings hurt in the NBA season.

  12. Reed Ewing Frazier says:

@doc Yeah Magic is the man so I can’t be mad at that but I still still have Zeke at #1 Yeah Coach K would get Sprewelled if he tried that in the NBA(lol)

@doc and Gee Hell yeah Coach Thompson would do well in the NBA and I’m not just saying that because I’m a G-Town Fan. And unlike Coach K if a player step to him he would get his ass whip D.C. style(lol)

@Logan Light Man you are right but Zeke is as tough as they come. Not to many dudes can stand and smile with the whole MSG booing him. No matter what happen with the Knicks I still got love for Zeke plus even though I’m a Knicks fan the Bad Boy teams of the late 80’s early 90’s was my favorite team to watch in that era. That is my style of b-ball shit let LeBron Steve Nash or Dirk try coming to hole on the Bad Boys dem cats wouldn’t last 5 seconds back then.

  13. rob stewart says:

I hated the Bad Boys becasue they always beat my Bulls early on. But deep down inside I knew Isiah was one of the illest PG’s ever.

  14. Luigi says:

Isiah….is Chris Paul back in the day.

i guess chris paul is the reincarnation of Isiah…but isiah is SO ILL!

but still Isiah’s legacy will always be the bad boys leader and the bad boy who killed the knicks

  15. Tim says:

I will always remember when Zeke got hurt against the Lakers, rolled his ankle, and then proceeded to put up buckets with a bum ankle in the Finals…
