Who Is Coming Out for Team USA in 2012?

Chris PaulCP3 (photo. Zack Wolfe)

Chris Paul actually has a better question. Who isn’t going to come out for Team USA in 2012?

“When 2012 rolls around, I feel like everyone in the NBA, if they had open trials, would want to be part of this team,” Chris Paul said. “This is so much bigger than the NBA, representing your country.”

For the ‘Redeem Team,’ the Beijing Games have been a privilege. For all of these guys (except Kidd of course), this shot at gold is unlike anything that they’ve experienced. And they’re clearly loving the opportunity to bring glory to the U.S.

Plus, the worldwide celebrity thing can’t hurt. Instead of hearing a chorus of boos in Western Conference arenas not named the Staples Center, Kobe is being applauded whenever his face appears on the jumbotron in Beijing – no matter the sport. Last night during the women’s volleyball game they put Kobe on the big screen at one point and the commentators explained that’s why the crowd broke into a seemingly random thunderous cheer.

If Jerry Colangelo hangs on as the Director of USA Basketball into 2012, and he opens up tryouts to everyone in the League, he could very well see hundreds of pro’s walk through the doors to that gym.

  1. shake&bake says:

    The replacements I would make:
Kidd – Derrick Rose (if he becomes what he should be)
Boozer – Greg Oden (if he’s healthy)
    Redd – Durant

  2. doc says:

I say keep Bron, Melo, CP, D-Will, Wade, Dwight,Bosh, add Oden,Durant,D-Rose,Gay,and whoever has the best 3 point stroke by then gets the last spot. This team smells of more ass whippings.

  3. S.K says:

    Brandon Roy

    Greg Oden

    Al Jefferson

    Amare Stoudemire

    David West

  4. doc says:

If Kobe still on his game and want to come fine but he might be washed up by 2012.

  5. P..just hand over the GOLD says:

2012 kobe can take J Kidd role on this years team…but real talk Kobe triple threat is so serious At 2012 he will still get buckets with a clear out and 2 dribbles..might lose a step on D…..

  6. doug says:

some of those shots Kobe was hitting were just disrespectful, guys in his grill pulling from 3 feet in front of half court with the confidence the same confidence he would have if he were sinking a 10 footer. My mans range is stupid.

  7. bigdoggchad says:

David West? So he can be 2012 team’s Boozer!?

  8. Allan says:

2010 World Championships and the 2012 Olympics:

    Chris Paul
    Deron Williams
    Dwayne Wade
    Micheal Redd
    Brandon Roy (Replacing Jason Kidd)
Andre Iguadala (Replacing Kobe to defend the best player
    on the other team)
    Lebron James
    Carmelo Anthony
Kevin Durant (To Replace Tayshaun Prince)

    Dwight Howard
    Chris Bosh
Greg Oden (To replace Carlos Boozer)

  9. Dagomar says:

shake&bake, I like how you think. Agreed.

I wouldn’t replace Kobe for the 2012 team. He’ll be old, but he’ll be the team’s elder statesman.

  10. Big V says:

I’m boycotting if AI ain’t on this team.

  11. Allan says:

@Big V . . . .AI ain’t fit for the FIBA game and we have all seen that already. He is too small to defend against bigger Euro players in a half court set.

  12. Matt says:

    Chris Paul
    Deron Williams
    Dwayne Wade
    OJ Mayo
    Kyle Korver
    Rudy Gay
    LeBron James
    Carmelo Anthony
    Kevin Durant
    Dwight Howard
    Chris Bosh
    Greg Oden

  13. Spliff 2 My Lou says:

Its too early to be talking about this. In 2004 nobody was talking about Paul, D. Williams, or Bosh being on the Olympics team. Who knows somebody nobody is thinking of could stand out in the next couple of years. People are pumped up now because the US is killing and its Olympic time. But players will lose interest in the next few years much like KG, Shaq and Amare did for this Olympiad. Not to mention the injury or personal commitments that might come up. We might as well be talking about the 2012 draft… Oh wait we do.

  14. Allan says:

    First five for the 2012:

    CP3
    D-Wade
    Lebron
    Melo
    Dwight

    6th man – Kevin Durant

    Bench Mob

    Andre Iguadala
    Deron Williams
    Brandon Roy
    Chris Bosh
    Greg Oden
    Micheal Redd

  15. Spliff 2 My Lou says:

This is the third time Dime has posed this question in the past week. Any new developments? This is already stale and the next Olympics isn’t for another 4 years. Shit can we win the gold this year before we even talk about the 2012 squad.

  16. Junio says:

Kevin Durant will be a bust. Skinny, can’t play D, get those 20pts just jacking shots and hurting the team.

  17. the mamba says:

    As of now, I see…

    Cp3
    Deron
    D rose

    Kobe
    Wade
    Roy

    Lebron
    Durant

    Bosh
    Carmelo

    Bynum
    Dwight

But of course, probably a few dudes from hs or college will probably make the team replacing bosh, carmelo or whoever bows out

  18. Allan says:

Lebron or D-wade might rest for the World Championships and then be back to save USA basketball again in 2012

  19. Chaos says:

man if the core guys stay Us would run in 2012

    Chris Paul
    D-Will
    Derrick Rose
    Dwayne Wade
    Brandon Roy
    OJ Mayo
    Kevin Durant
    Lebron James
    Melo Anthony
    Chris Bosh
    Dwight Howard
    Greg Oden

    Alternates:

    Rajon Rondo
    Russell Westbrook
    Al Thornton
    Andre Iguodala
    Kevin Love
    Jerryd Bayless
    Jeff Green
    Michael Beasley

  20. ejay225 says:

    Hey Doc,

How you feel about brandon roy? Just curious.

  21. Young Lebron 23 says:

Why people keep mentioning bynum. He’s butt.

  22. YGB (Obama 08) says:

@Doc. Kobe would bee washed up? He would bee 33. How would he bee washed up?

  23. Borgs says:

For someone to endorse a guy who has yet to even play a game in a professional league shows how ludicrous and premature discussion is on this topic.

  24. shake&bake says:

I’m changing mine from Post #1, instead of Durant, I’ll take Beasley.

  25. formentera18 says:
