Allan Houston At Knicks Camp

Allan HoustonH20

By now you’ve probably seen the headlines and I hope you’re as appalled as I am. Now I know what you’re thinking. Didn’t this happen last year around this time? Someone must have just re-posted this story on their blog from a year ago. Unfortunately, the reports are true. But unlike last year, Allan Houston is not bugging the Knicks for an invite. According to the New York Post, Houston has “accepted the club’s offer” to attend training camp.

Honestly, what do the Knicks owe this guy? He hasn’t played a game since the 2004-05 season and despite the fall of Lehman Brothers, I’m sure he still has some money leftover from that ridiculous six-year, $100 million contract extension he signed in August 2001.

I know that Donnie Walsh and Mike D’Antoni are new in town, but if I was James Dolan, I wouldn’t allow Houston back in the building. I would hang his contract above my desk like Jerry Seinfeld’s bounced check at Marcelino’s bodega.

If you were the Knicks, what would you do?

sign him in a heartbeat. from what we have heard he is back in shape and his knee is better than ever. and in D’Antoni’s system he’ll put in 10 minutes here and there to sit on the three point line and just shoot like he did in the hey day. great locker room presence, and a team leader, and for old time’s sake, bring him back. He’s wet.

  2. MJAX says:

Mannnnnn after seeing a few Knix games by accident, moreso to see players on the teams they were playing against. Think about it, what do they have to loose!!!?!? Can they be much worse?!?!

  3. TBone says:

DIME, YOU GOTTA (GOTTA GOTTA GOTTA GOTTA GOTTA GOTTA GOTTA) stop making read more links for 2 or three sentences.

    YOU’RE KILLING ME

I want to bash my head into my screen everytime I see that.

    Please stop

    LMAO BOUNCED CHEQUE

  5. BxBaller says:

This a PR move. They are trying to rebuild their image. That’s why they also traded for Pat Ewing Jr. I doubt that either make the opening day roster, but it sure would be nice to have H20 back with the Knicks. He’s the only piece from our glory years.

  6. justice says:

let’s get it done mannn, im almost certain his knee isn’t better, that doesnt make much sense, how do u duplicate an 82 game season, plus he’s a bit older..but anyway great locker room presence and we need all the momentum we can get, plus he can work with jc on his shot selection and footwork…

  7. yallallreadyknow says:

all that money and this dude was 1 dimensional. just a jump shot. he couldn’t do anything else. can’t dribble, can’t defend, can’t pass, can’t rebound…geesh; the list goes on and on about his “can’t do’s”.

at this stage…..doesn’t allan houston owe the knicks a refund?

  8. loc says:

As a bench player/coach whats the issue? One of the purest shooters ever.
He seems like a solid dude who will bring a positive attitude, come off the bench happilly and hit some 3s. Can’t be a bad idea.

  9. MoxWestCoastRep says:

Can’t hurt having him around to create some competition and provide some leadership during camp. Probably too late to contribute during the season

  10. hahns says:

why are you mad about this, id take h20 in a heartbeat. knicks are a pr disaster, so to have a genuine good guy around and be an influence in the locker room, to replace the malcontent marbury…you gota make that move. hes a franchise guy, and its not that we owe him- if anything he owes us some leadership and shooting for the league min. the knicks fans need someone to cheer for.

  11. jimmhumm says:

H20 was pretty good back when the Knicks where relevent…But so was Pat Ewing.
Let them old bones rest Allen please.
You played ball with Grant Hill back when he was that dude. Why 13-14 years later do you want to come back?
Let it go. You got 100 million! Go buy an ABA team. A.I. did it!

  12. dukesman2000 says:

I would let him try out for the team

  13. Big V says:

If he’s in shape, why not? All he has to do is park himself at the 3pt stripe and let em rip. His D can’t be much worse than what it was before the injury and I’m sure his jumper is still splash. He’s also a veteran with playoff experience and leadership which couldn’t hurt this current cast in the locker room and on the court. I’m all for it as long as H2O is healthy and can play. I wish him and the Knicks the best.

  14. dapro says:

    @BXBALLER

I agree this is clearly a move to get back in good standing with the fans of NYC. He was loved by Knick fans as was Camby(when healthy) and SPREE (most loved I think)

  15. Diego says:

Hey, why not bring Spree and Oakley back too? This is a joke.

  16. Aron says:

    “Sign him in a heartbeat”?!

For real? There are solid dudes that weren’t drafted or have played overseas or in the D-League last season that I would much rather have. In fact, there are NBA free agents that I would much rather have. The dude was an All-Star and a legend… but hasn’t played in a couple years. You lose your edge and lose your step.

  17. MSkittle says:

Sign him! Shooting and class is something the Knicks have lacked for years. He cant do what Kyle Korver/Pat Garrity do?

  18. Homeless J says:

What do the Knicks owe Allen Houston?

Dentures, a 10% discount on meals at Denny’s and Kenny Rogers, and a swift kick in the ass.

  19. Aron says:

    @MSkittle

He should do exactly what Pat Garrity does… RETIRE!

  20. dagwaller says:

I don’t like this at all.

@anyone saying that this would be a good PR move: this kind of move is WHY the Knicks are in a bad PR spot. Overpaying for a guy like Houston in the first place, then seeing it blow up soon after and having to pay for it for years. Let’s make that mistake again and again and again til 2008, when we can start the whole cycle over again.

  21. solomon says:

at least, he’s got a better mixtape than pat garrity… or does he?

  22. Sccob says:

I love the Seinfeld reference. You should have seen/heard my father’s reaction to the Knicks invitation to Houston. Besides the screwface, my father went into a rant about how the Knicks do the same dumb things every year along with how things are no different than when they were under Zeke. He kept calling Houston a bum and said that D’Antoni needs to be fired. Then he went into how Jim Dolan needs to give it up and sell the team.

I share my pops sentiments. I can’t believe I bought two tix to go see them this year. I already feel cheated….

  23. Mike says:

Sign him. Anyone that can still shoot like he can, will be on someone’s team, so it might as well be the Knicks. Check out H20 sinking 10 straight 3-pointers just a few days ago on youtube:

  24. Edward says:

i agree yes resign him he is in good shape and he was one of the knicks best three point shooters they had back then and he probably still is. What do the knicks got to lose ?? nothing i would love to see him come back but thats just me
