Ben Gordon Offered $5.5 Million Per Year by CSKA Moscow
Ben GordonThere’s a chance that Ben Gordon’s name could be the latest addition to the list of NBA talents invading Europe for fatter pockets and more significant burn. The only difference this time around is that if Gordon does sign the offer sheet from CSKA Moscow, he’s not going to be making a Josh Childress-esque jump in his tax-bracket.
The big problem right now is that CSKA hasn’t matched Gordon’s pricetag. Earlier this summer, Gordon rejected a $6.4 million qualifying offer from the Bulls, and made it explicitly clear that he wanted something that matched Luol Deng’s $70 million penny for penny.
Even though Gordon seems to have come down some from that request, he still thinks that his 18.6 points per game last year is deserving of a real raise.
According to greek website contra.gr the CSKA Moscow has made an offer to the NBA superstar of 5.5 million dollars per year whereas Gordon seems to want more a bit more, around 7 million dollars to match the contract the Childress got from Olympiakos.
But remember that if Gordon took that deal on the table from CSKA, he’d come away with more in his wallet than if he signed the Bulls’ deal because of the NBA’s taxation system. Right now, an answer is expected from Gordon as to his destination next season by tomorrow.

i would make the jump if the amount i would make in europe was significantly higher than my nba salary, but seeing as how it is so close, i would stay.

Dude needs to realize this:
You’re only WORTH what people are willing to PAY. It’s like those people trying to sell their collections that are “worth 10 million dollars”, but get all upset cause no one’s willing to buy it from them for that price. Well that means it ain’t WORTH TEN MILLION DOLLARS THEN.
Ben Gordon ain’t worth 70 million dollars, simply because no team is willing to pay him 70 million dollars. Time to drop your price.

See ya Ben. Thanks for blessing us with clutch shooting off the bench. While you’re over there, do some scouting for us… we’re looking for a combo guard who can shoot the lights out, relishes in the sixth man role, and is willing to get paid accordingly.
If you meet anyone who fits the description, let us know. You know the number.

Someone needs to do a drug test on Ben Gordon. Does he really think he’s worth $70 million?
He should have taken the $60 million contract they offered last year.
He is an undersized shooting guard who is selfish and clearly only places value on PPG as opposed to other ways to fill the box score or intangibles. The bulls should ditch him – he would eat up the cap and they would regret the signing by the end of this season.

As a hardcore Bulls fan let me be the first to say do svidania. I think the Bulls will luck out if he heads overseas. They will save that money for two or three other players. They might miss his scoring early on but they will benefit in the long run.

They should try and convince Philly that a s+t is a good idea.
Like guy above said, matey should have taken the 60mil while he could instead of pulling a Sprewell. Foolishness.

This dude might just win the Fred Sanford “You Big Dummy!!!” award. He must have some good drugs to think that he is worth more than 50 million dollars. His major problem is that he is too inconsistent. Man I hope he packs some extra long johns. If he gets his handles together he might land on somebody bench. Good Luck, Ben

whats with these upper mid class players wanting big time money? they should check how much players like manu, tp etc make and then stop complaining. plus, he is in nba for some time, its not like he showed major improvement every year, so bulls can gamble with 70 mill range offer and pray that he fulfill theirs wishes.

@ Yoda–
I think that whole mentality comes from back in the day when Erik Dampier and Brian Cardinal got like 10mil per cause they had one good season.

if ben gordon goes to moscow, he will certainly never go back to the nba because no one will want him, nobody wants him now! if he goes to the euroleague and puts up like 30 points a game( which is likely) nobody in the nba will care because it doesnt compare to the nba. On the bright side he can pull a becky hammon and play for the russian national team, and then get his ass beat by team usa

This is a clear litmus test for heart. Maybe Josh Childress is an exception (I’m sure he’s competitive and wants to be a star, plus they did offer him a truck-load of money), but if Ben Gordon were to defect would that mean he doesn’t realize that he’ll still suck at defense in Russia, still put up bad shots, and still not be a star?
You’ve got to man up and play, and that’s that.
I tell you what, though, the Bulls need to do something about these guards. Trade Hinrich, Gordon, SOMEBODY! ANYBODY! Hell, trade Rose I don’t care!

Paufve says:
Is Gordan insane? 18ppg 3assist 3 rebounds, and piss poor decisions late in games does not warrant a 10 mil per contract. Not to mention he’s 6’3! What ever he’s been smoking I want some. Him and Ivan Drago can have fun together in that depression that is Russia.

Wow. Really Ben? Kermit is right. The market dictates price, and if you aren’t getting any offers, you need to lower your price. He is really trippin. He’s a decent player but not a good business man. He might need to look into changing his agent.
