Breaking News: Jason “White Chocolate” Williams retires
Less than two months after signing a free-agent deal with the Clippers, Jason Williams announced his retirement today from the NBA. Penciled in as Baron Davis‘ primary backup with the new-look Clips, the 10-year vet has career averages of 11.4 points and 6.3 assists. J-Will came over to L.A. from Miami, where he won an NBA championship as the Heat’s starting point guard in 2006. He’s been battling knee injuries in recent years, and had vastly changed the style that made him a highlight-reel fixture in his early years with the Kings and Grizzlies. “White Chocolate” came into the League as part of the same rookie class as Vince Carter, Paul Pierce and Dirk Nowitzki, but early in their respective careers, it was J-Will who made the most immediate splash. Check out his best work below:

Yea, this is one of the first guys to retire that makes me say, man, I’m old. I just watched a few of his youtube mixtapes earlier this summer, too. I figured he’d be a quality backup to Boom Dizzle; wonder what the Clips are going to do now?
Hard to believe he only played 10 years. Makes me feel a little better, haha.

Weird that he would sign a free agent deal and retire a couple of months after. I bet this was one of those “we are going to cut you – or you can retire – you decide”

He wasn’t a huge contributor for the Heat, but he did help us win the chip. If he would have been healthy the past few years, we would have seen a different player. Good luck, J-Dub.

Part of why I fell in love with basketball was the team first attitude and individual flair that Jason Williams exemplified. RIP (his career).

I hope this is a practical joke by the basketball god…
Jason Williams was fun to watch in his hey days, however erratic he was… the stuff he pulled in game situations is just insane…great handle, incredibly skilled, he makes u want to spend the extra hours working on ball handling…
and please, someone talk to JWill and change his mind, he’s got a least a few more years in his tank….

that play against Utah @ 1:55 to me is still jaw-dropping after all these years…a fake pass in the air, fake 3 guys out big time and threw a dime right down the middle…i’m sure each and everyone of us got our own favorite JWill play, to me that was it…

Heres the funnier thing. Of some of the names in that class who woulda thought White Chocolate woulda got a ring before Dirk, PP and Wince? I mean rewind like 5-6 years when the Mavs were the NBA’s Colts (Pre Superbowl) and the Celts were constantly battlin Jersey for the east finals and the Raps where a turnaround away from the conference semis and then signed the dream makin everyone think championship? Ah Jwill I love the shoot first, shoot second, shoot some more and then when i think their playin too much d pass lmao not to mention the ridiculousness that was his handle and who could ever forget his beef wit that reporter. U aint writin nothin, u aint writin nothin homeboy. Ah The poor clippers, will they ever catch a break?

I was a huge fan of J-Will and the Kings back in the day. He had some of the sickest shit I ever saw in my life. And yeah, Analord, if that’s not my favorite it’s at least top 3.

I hated J-Dub back in the day…the kings and the lakers used to have it out man!!! but i loved him with the heat. he wasn’t the same white chocolate that he was with the kings, but every now and again it’d come out. i can’t believe he was only in the L for 10 years. it looked like he was playing on 50 year old legs out there at times while he was with the Heat. one of the most exciting players in the L for sure…

interesting to see him retire so soon . . . he was only 11,546 assists away from supplanting Stockton’s mark on the league record books.
good ballhandling? yes.
good point guard? up for debate . . .

i dont think he quit because he would be cut. guess hes knees are in real bad shape. and guess he decided its better to stop now, while he can still walk without problems, then to push him self for few more dollars, and end up with plastic knees and cane. respect to that.
but, as most if you said before, i too feel old. can you imagine that jazz drafted williams and that he played way he played in sacto? i think sloan would end up in hospital after first game

I remember sitting in a bar after my squad got lit up in the park rec league and we were all depressed and we saw JWill do the elbow pass in the frosh/soph game on tv and immediately we were all laughs
Here’s one for you – I’m not trying to be a bitch about that loss a decade later but the other squad had guys that played D1 ball for years, what are you doing playing in a city park rec league when we have a pro/am league in the city. That’s some ol big fish in a small pond type shit

Lololol@thomasmmm’s video. I think it’s hilarious when mixes have bad music in the background. I think even J Will himself woulda changed the channel from that.

Still one of the flashiest players who energized the game. That elbow pass was quite possibly the best pass I’ve ever seen, period. Never thought he’d have a ring at the end of his career, but I put the blame on the Mavericks. Thanks for the memories White Chocolate.

Let it be. I grew up with Jason. He was never a quitter. All the long years of us guys wanting him to hang out and do something different than b-ball, Jason never stopping working on his game. He was obsessed with the game. I admire him for that. I understand why he is quitting. Hey, he got paid! He can now live his life. He is just a country boy that could handle a rok. I’m glad he made it out of the valley and did something with his life. See ya in the valley soon jay.

filmmaker says:
I fell in love with the NBA due to that fantastic Sacramento Kings team with him as the most exciting player among a few other greats.
About him winning a ring before those other players mentioned of his draft year, what about him winning a ring before all those teammates he had at the time, especially Chris Webber and Peja Stojakovic. Let alone that Hedo Turkoglu might be the other one who could win a championship (although the Magic got washed tonight in game 1 of the finals so his chances may be slim).
