Cooper High School basketball star…

Minnesota Golden Gophers

Thank you Google. In a world saturated with media, sometimes I’ll search Google News to see breaking stories in the basketball world. This morning I got lucky.

Rodney Williams Jr., considered one of the best leapers in the nation, has decided to commit to Tubby Smith over at the University of Minnesota. A blue-chip recruit out of Minnesota, Williams averaged 21 points, seven rebounds and three blocks a game last season while leading Cooper High School to the state tournament.

Although Williams’ story is intriguing, it was the headline displayed in my Google News search results that caught my eye: “Cooper High School basketball star Rodney Williams Jr. gives oral.” Wow. While clearly this wasn’t the full title printed in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, this was exactly what appeared on the screen. Sorry Rodney.

That’s sad. On another note, I saw Rodney play over the summer and the kid is nice. He’s skinny but has major hops and dunks hard, and he can actually play some basketball.

Terrible headline but good for Rodney Williams Jr.

I thought recruits were supposed to be on the receiving end of the deal?
