Dime All-Access: JR Smith Fashion Shoot
Me and JR Buckets Outside of AspenA couple of weeks back we got up with JR Smith to shoot a fashion segment for Dime’s next issue. We photographed him at a New York City hot spot called Aspen. Why there, you ask? The owner is a native of Colorado and the restaurant/bar has the feel of a ski lodge. Since JR plays for the Nuggets, we thought it was a good fit.
Like all of the fashion shoots I do, I like the atmosphere to be laid back and chill. We hooked up JR’s iPhone to the house sound system and bumped a sick Jadakiss mix he put together. Even JR’s mom, who was on hand for the whole day, was caught vibin’ to the tunes. We thought it’d be cool to show you guys a few seconds of behind the scene footage of what goes on at a Dime Fashion shoot.
Complete with good pizza and milk shakes from Red Mango (if you don’t know about it, find out ASAP), the shoot was nothing short of a good time. Shout out to JR, his mom, and photographer Mark Mann (and staff) for making the shoot possible!
Look for the official behind-the-scenes video and the whole JR Smith photo shoot in the next issue of Dime, Issue 44, hitting the streets Sept. 16th.

Christian Grant-Fields says:
@ Gee,
The pic is just a candid one. We can’t show ya’ll the heat just yet! And what’s wrong with how we’re standing?! LOL
I don’t know how I got mixed up with Flash either…If you saw me play then I could see why there might be a mixup. Lol.
JR’s tats are serious. whoever does his work is legit.
His mom wanted to see what’s up. She’s proud of her son. What’s the issue? Lol
Kiss is top 5 dead or alive…please believe it.

Chris, you know damn well Jadakiss ain’t Top 5. Take the NY blinders off. He can’t hold Ice Cube’s braggiole.

GEE...new finishing move...the slap you silly says:
CGF I understand holding off on the heat. It might be me, but the way your arms are folded and he got his legs crossed holding the door or whatever… Don’t get mad Toine lol, I’m just sayin.
Naw fa real y’all straight…
….I hope. (I kidd, I kidd)
So what up CGF you like the best baller at Dime, how come you didn’t try out for the Slamball joint? Wasn’t it Andy that did that? Who is the best in the office?
People get me mixed up wit Jaleel White when I ball. Again kiddin.
Yea he pretty ill wit the tats but that’s just to much for me.
That is cool mom is proud of her son and all I ain’t hatin just wondering. Just seem weird. I guess considering stripclubs, dogfights and all the other foolishness players are in these days I guess a photo shoot is safe.

Austin Burton says:
I still remember when J.R. was a rookie and they had him on a “follow you around” reality show called “NBA Rookies” or something. Anyway, they asked his Dad something along the lines of “Do you feel weird about moving in with your son and living off him now?” Dad says, “The way I see it, he’s been mooching off me for 19 years. Now it’s my turn.”

We got a squad over here. I’d put our office up against ANY office in North America.
@ Austin,
A-Train…Ice Cube is not seeing ‘Kiss. Don’t start this West v. East Coast crap again!! LOL.
Sheek Louch?!?!?!? Styles is the best member, but ‘Kiss is nasty.

justice says:
Terry Crews lmao..don’t know where that came from..
Jadakiss is a beast…
Ice Cube lmao Ice Cube, much respect due to a legend but he was never exactly one of the hottest dudes lyrically..

dukesman2000 says:
Hey,
I was at the Arrow Wood hotel in Rye, NY this past Friday and saw a bunch of NBA Rookies walking around. Beasely, Mayo, Jerryd Bayless and so many more.
Dale Davis and Andre Iguodala was also there, they aren’t rookies so I am not sure why they were kicking at the hotel. But it was good seeing some of those guys

Christian Grant-Fields says:
@ Tony X,
My mother’s last name is Grant and my dad’s last name is Fields.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
Austin Burton says:
@Dukesman2000 — That’s the hotel where they had the Rookie Transition program. Davis and Iguodala were probably there to talk during one of the seminars.
@justice — Ice Cube is a legend BECAUSE he’s one of the hottest dudes lyrically AND he has a message. I can’t think of too many West Coast MC’s better than him in that regard.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
Austin Burton says:
@CGF — It looks like JR isn’t that much taller than you. Is he a legit 6-6 like he’s listed?
September 9th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Christian Grant-Fields says:
@ Austin,
You said it not mean…Maybe I am 6′5 instead of 6′3…..go figure! LOL
September 9th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
GEE...new finishing move...the slap you silly says:
Dog I’m tryna let it go lol. It’s just a bunch of stuff. Why yall standing so close, WHY IS JR’S LEGS CROSSED LIKE THAT fa real??? I don’t know if it’s the tight a$$ shirt the arms folded or what, but CGF yea pimp let it go, it’s just a pretty gay photo sorry. We all got bad photos in our life (I got a bunch that will never surface hopefully lol), and that might just be yours.
Don’t worry you still got ya street cred. pimpin, I know you still a G. Again you scraight you scraight.
AB I can’t say cube can touch Jada. Maybe old Cube but not the current actor. I ain’t saying Sheek the best. He just the most gutter to me. I like his no hold bars style. I think Jada is better than Styles though lyrically.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
Christian Grant-Fields says:
@ Gee,
You’re trippin! We’re not even standing that close and my shirt isn’t even tight fam! Lol.
Jada is better than Styles lyrically but The Ghost got him in reagrds to overall delivery and content.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
GEE...new finishing move...the slap you silly says:
Aight CGF Imma let you have it pimpin. Still this is one of them joints you burn lol. Glad you can take a joke though.
He got Jada in content yes but come on delivery??? Jada’s delivery has to be tight on the lyrics alone, else it ain’t comin off right.
I don’t know, to me Jada always been shiznit of the LOX. I always like them though cause they had 3 distinct styles. Lyrics, Content and Gutta.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
J Tok says:
haha you’re all straight bombin on CGF. Nice picture homie, it’s a good epic pic lol no homo. It’s real tight to be doing a photo shoot with J.R. A Jersey Baller who has done his business.

“i need a hundred jeeps that fly when traffic’s packed/bustin down on the crabs with plasma gats”–styles used to be the illest in the group…seems like he kinda fallin off to me (getting more/too repetitve with some of his rhymes and whatnot…) but old lox-sheek was crazy, styles was crazy and kiss was the crazy…thinkin bout how old they are now and how old i am now and knowing that 96 was more than 10 years ago is crazy…

@Austin,
Tell me you picked up Game’s new album then…
@CGF,
‘Kiss is way underrated. maybe it’s cause we don’t about him as much over here on the west coast, but for real…he’s nice. i’m really feelin little brother, lupe, my man mos, the roots, immortal technique, game, andre 3k, common….basically, dudes that have something to say
wasn’t there an article before about which players had a hip hop counterpart?? if there wasn’t, then there should be one. but i KINDA thought one happened already…
September 9th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
GEE...I'm mobile says:
iain how am i stutterin kid when i got 1 who i like style wise but 1 who i think is the best overall.
Holiday just dont do it Fa me. Although as i said content wise he prolly the best at that and staying on topic.

@David Brandon — I haven’t gotten Game’s new album yet, but I agree that he tries to have something substantial in his lyrics. The only thing I don’t like about Game is the over-reliance on name-dropping, but I can deal with it.

I think ‘Kiss is CRAZY but he can only really do the whole hood, blast guns context. He’s like the Carmelo of rap. Whole lot of shooting.
And after ‘Are We There Yet 1 & 2′ I didn’t even know Ice Cube was a rapper anymore…LOL
