Dwyane Wade: The Knicks don’t want me, they want LeBron
Dwyane Wade (photo. Chad Griffith)Every time Dwyane Wade is anywhere near New York or Mike D’Antoni, he’s inevitably bombarded with questions about the possibility of playing for the Knicks when he’s a free agent in 2010. We saw it a couple months ago when Team USA was in NYC for a media tour, and again when D-Wade was at the NBA Store in Manhattan yesterday for a promo event. So far, Flash has mastered the art of putting on a smile and half-joking his way through the same ol’ queries.
“He’s a great coach,” Wade said of D’Antoni. “He’s unbelievable. He’s a very smart coach, especially offensively. He’s got a tough job on his hands, not just because of the team he has but because of the city he’s in. But I think if anybody can do it, he’s one of the guys that can do it. You’ve just got to have patience. And I think he’ll have patience.”
Wade went on: “The Knicks are not worried about me. They’re worried about No. 23, and he’s in Cleveland. First of all, No. 23 is 23 years old. He’s young. He’s very young. He’s one of the best players in the game and you only could see him getting better. I’m in a good market in Miami. He’s not in a good market in Cleveland, marketing-wise, so it just makes sense that everyone wants to see one of the best players in one of the best markets. Kobe‘s in one of the best markets already in L.A. Everybody wants LeBron in a great market, and that’s why they already put him in a New York jersey.”
If you’re running the Knicks, where do your priorities lie when LeBron, Wade and Chris Bosh are on the free agent market in 2010? How much more emphasis do you put on trying to land LeBron than the other Big Two?

When’s the last time a championship team was built around a star SF and a bunch of roleplayers? LeBron is going to need alot of help, or at least one more legitimate star, to get any further in the postseason.
The Knicks could go after Wade and attempt to do a poor man’s version of the championship Bulls. Build around your star SG, get him a playmaking defensive SF, find some quality (but not necessarily star) bigs, etc.

Tha Boddy says:
D-Wade has everything right…Who wouldn’t put a 6’9SF over a 6’4SG with obvious worries injury wise???Chris Bosh is good and all but the only way he would be looked at fast is if they can’t get the money together for LBJ or D-Wade

I don’t see Bosh as a franchise-changing player. Great pickup, but not the guy that’s going to rescue the Knicks.

Lebron is not only younger, but he isn’t as injury prone as Wade/Bosh. This is a no-brainer…

LBJ is going to be the best addition for New York when it comes to money and that seems to be waht drives most basketball decisions in the league. That’s why I love college and high school ball, the game is more pure at those levels.

you are dumb – Canadia??
Anyways LeBron is the obvious choice for NY
Miami will have to see how Beasley turns out to see if Wade likes running w/ him

yo i think this is funny. D-wade is funny man. But hell ,he’s tellin the truth. They not to worried about him if they can get bron then thats who they goin after. So he’s right.Me personally i think if he proves himself to be kinda injury free i would want him rather than bron IMO. But bron will prolly go to jersey/brooklyn anyway with ”coach jay-z” so i think they should look at wade and bosh

It is going to be tough competing with the overseas market, especially when teams are already putting money away to pay Lebron 50 mil per. So the safe choice is to go with players who want to stay in the US. I will go with Wade.

As a DIE HARD Knick fan, I would LOVE to have either one, but come on, let’s be realistic, King James has got to be the first choice.

Blue says:
i’m not sayin’ the knicks shouldn’t and wouldn’t go after wade, but riley won’t let that happen. he’s already making plenty of cap space for a huge paid day for wade. unless the heat just straight suck ass the next two years, he’s not going anywhere.
i mean c’mon…the beaches of south florida or the buroughs of new york.

FK in T-oh says:
In a hypothetical, what if the Knicks waived the full roster and signed LBJ, D-Wade and CB4:
LBJ = 18 mill a year for 6 years
D-Wade = 18 mill a year for 6 years
CB4 = 18 mill a year for 6 years
That would be 54 million tied up annually in three guys, leaving room for 5 veterans at their league minimum (1.2)and 5 young guys at their league minimum (say 450K).
For under the luxury cap you’ve just bought 6 Larry O’Brien trohpys, and 78 championship rings.

nick says:
knicks want either wade or lebron as first choices then bosh comes after, plus i doubt he leaves toronto since the raptors have the most money to toss at him. also jermaine oneal’s deal finishes the same yr so realistically, the raptors could end up with bosh and wade. however the rest of the team would be absolute trash outside calderon, wade, bosh. Most likely either wade or bosh would have to settle for not the max contract for it to work.

hustleharder says:
N.Y. should go after Bosh, hard! Not cuz he’s the best of the 3, but because that’s the only 1 they’ll be able to get. LBJ is rollin with Jigga in BK and that’s that. Chi-town’s finest is definitely coming home and da Bulls will have the cap space, quiet as kept(Hughes and Gordon will be off the books by then). So Bosh is it. Although he might spurn the Knickerbockers for that tax-free dough in Canada.

benzo94 says:
I agree with hustleharder. If Wade would leave Miami it would be for home. Trust me, when Chi made those trades for Hughes and Gooden they were well aware their contracts were up by 2010. And why do you think their not to concerned about signing Ben Gordon. You don’t need a 60 million dollar backup for Wade. By 2010 you still have under contract Hinrich,Deng,Noc,Noah,Thomas,Rose, and Grey which is a decent rotation to put around Wade and thats not including who will be picked up in between now and then through signing trades and 2 more drafts. Chi will make a run at Wade and he will def think about coming home even if things get better in Mia. He spends every Summer in Chi with family and tells storys about his strong feelings about playing for Chi when he was young. Miami or Chicago those are the only 2 places I think Wade will play for after 2010

J says:
Yeah D-Wade is staying in Miami where they will without a doubt be contenders for the 7 or 8 seed in the east this year with Wade, Chalmers, Beasley, and Marion. I think this is going to be a VERY GOOD Miami team.
On the other hand, I could see LeBron playing for the knicks or Nets, but its tough because with the Nets he can make more money with the Jay-Z, but he could be able to win more championships with the Knicks if they also get Bosh. If you ask me I think he goes to the Knickerbockers and still chills with Jay-Z.

I don’t think Lebron will sign with NY without another star player. That would be wasting his time. He wants to win a championship, so Wade and Lebron would be unbeatable. Sharing the basketball would be a tough one, but not impossible. Kobe and Shaq did it. They did with the US team. If they both sign with the Knicks, that would bring the NBA to a new level and since NY is a major market, they would probably need a bigger MSG to play in. They would still need a good point guard, a solid center, and a decent power forward.

Josh says:
What about gettin all 3? Not enough cap space? Well if they all signed with NY for approx. 11 mil/year, and Nike would most likely make a BIG 3 campaign and make up the rest easily so financially they are satisfied while bringing home rings annually.
