Gilbert Arenas Is Out For the First Month of The Season

Gilbert ArenasGil went under the knife today

Not again. Gilbert Arenas underwent a surgical procedure on his left knee this morning to “clean out some debris.” While Agent 0 is, as always, spinning this into a positive as it will allow him to recover quicker, it’s still a devastating blow to the Wizards’, who expected Gil to be ready at 100% on day one.

“I just had some floating debris in there that was slowing me down,” said Arenas, who seemed to be in good spirits. “It was irritating the knee so we decided to go in there and clean it out. This should actually allow me to come back faster.”

Yesterday the biggest news in DC was that Caron Butler had just come off of a summer of doing good in the Bahamas, Jamaica, South Africa and Mexico, and was encouraging his teammates to follow suit. But now the Wiz’s $111 million man will have all eyes focused on him and his timetable to return to the floor.

He’ll definitely be out for the entirety of camp, and for that first month of the season. Given that he, Caron and Antawn Jamison have been together for a minute now, can the Wiz get away without having their offensive centerpiece together during the early stages of the season?

    They did last year…

  2. dukesman2000 says:

I am one of few who believes the Wizards should not have signed him to such a huge contract. Basically he has done nothing for them and all indications are pointing to a decline. Bad move on the Wiz’s part

  3. justin (miami) says:

I see the Grant Hill signing in Orlando part 2 here. Washington was crazy to give him all that money with that knee. Hope it works out for Arenas. Love watching him play but if he doesn’t come back to being the player he was before the Wizards will not recover from this for a decade.

  4. Random Guess says:

he’s right tho…this is just light work.
But it still makes us nervous!

  5. Blue says:

i’m gonna jump on the bandwagon of saying that the Wizards are a better ‘team’ without Agent 0. they might win a couple more games with him in the lineup, but they’d probably make it further in the playoffs without him. just sayin’…

    so overrated!!!

  6. Sam I Am says:

YOU SEE WHY WE CAN’T STAND HIM IN DC

    DAMN MAN

    His Jimney Cricket Bum Leg

Better be scoring 31.2 PPG and 25.8 APG (YEAH I SAID IT)

  7. ERIC says:

not very good general management to sign him to that huge contract (with max years) with his health status up in the air..

  8. Meica says:

This guy is a chump. Kobe foregoes surgery because he loves to play so much, because he wanted a gold medal; Gil goes and foregoes playing for more surgery. I bet he hasn’t worked on his streaky shooting or his crappy defense either.

  9. Arrogant says:

uh-oh, this aint good, maybe the can get livingston as a cheap backup…(with a similar knee..)

  10. Suciniac says:

I’ll bet he’ll have a Francis type career before the end of his new contract.

  11. GEE...currently pop locking and then the windmill! says:

Whoaaa the hate lol. I ain’t his biggest fan. Dang though.

He will be out for a “little” while. They play in the East, so not like it’s tight like the west. Dude certainly doesn’t make the team horrible. Perhaps a little worse if you think like Blue (and I do see where you coming from).

Still need we kick this man totally out of the L, cause he wants the aggrivation in his knee to stop. Wow.

Can’t a dude get treatment for testicular cancer, tumors or bacterial growths without getting blasted lol.

Cats be going strong on a dude for surgery dang.

  12. Sam I Am says:

    It aint that Gee…

It’s very frustrating as you well know (T-Mac) when you’re investment, hope, entertainment, clutch player is always out.

And he isn’t the next coming up Isiah Thomas but still you demanding big money, you should / and NEED to step up and better give stats like I mentioned.

    31.2 PPG / 25.8 APG lol ( i love the assists stat)

Give me a dunk or two Damn

  13. jace says:

they’ll be fine.. they got to the playoffs without him. the east still looks open to me. well.. the last 3 spots for playoffs look open.

  14. Supremeng says:

Dude had two good years and has been garbage ever since. WIZARDS = EPIC FAIL

  15. Joe says:

@Meica – those injuries are just a little different, unless you think Kobe is going to run up and down the court all year supporting his weight on his pinky finger

  16. GEE...currently pop locking and then the windmill! says:

Aight Sam I Am I gotcha on that, specially considering the money. Hopefully he will give you something this year. I just hope dude ain’t setting his self up for more failure.

Cause you know with the surgery everyone is going to be expecting dude to do everything short of superman (not Dwight). Plus he put that pressure on himself as well talking bout he might be even faster lol. I think between money and this, dude might be a let down. I said a long time ago trade him for a legit 5. I guess we all will see.

I don’t know about that Assist line though lol.

  17. miamiVIS3 says:

How long before they trade his ass?

  18. Tha Boddy says:

    @ Sam I Am
I live in the DMV area and nobody hates Agent Zero, hell I didn’t hear all this hate when D-Wade was all messed up with shoulder and knee problems and Gilbert Arenas is up there with the 10best players in the NBA…He fills seats and he wins games remember last year they couldn’t get out the first round and he was helpful when he did play for the most part. Gilbert Arenas gave the DMV a reason to come to the Verizon Center and it was not to see the opposing teams best player. People get injured and he can’t help it that somebody fell on his leg during the course of him doing his job.

    @ Supremeng
Agent Zero had 3 good years b4 the injury’s limited him where he averaged about 27.6 over the course and showed flashes last year that if he knee was good he was killin
Supremeng getting his info correct = Epic Fail

  19. Tha Boddy says:

Oh and all Gilbert Arenas haters are hypocrites and fools of the highest caliber. You think Kobe forgoing pinky treatment is the same as having your knee worked on the be safe…If you do think it’s the same then ask C-Webb who coulda been a automatic hall of famer had not been for the damage sustained 2 his knees

  20. TL says:

That just means STevenson has to step it up on offense.

  21. ugly_fish says:

    Stupid Gerald Wallce.

  22. Luigi says:

Fuck this….i swear. Gilbert. ur still one of my faves but u cant dogg it man… but when u get on the court…YOU BETTER BE WORTH IT or else….

  23. DAPRO says:

    Ya’ll going hard on Gil

Even if he played the first month of the season, he wasn’t going to be 100% until after the all-star game anyway

    I think he’ll be fine

And yo Pinkie < Leg (can’t be serious comparing the two)

  24. Dennis Castro says:

Comparing this to Grant Hill doesn’t make sense. First of all, it was Hill’s ankle. And Grant went against dr’s advice and played on a bum wheel anyway.

Gil is patient and is taking the advice of his dr’s. Yea, a knee injury is one of the worst when it comes to athletes, but also remember, Gil isn’t a 7′ 330lb behemoth(sp). Which means the stress on his knees isn’t that much.

He might have to drop some weight maybe to lessen the impact on his knees, but I think he’ll be ok. He seems like he has the work ethic to want to get back to that elite level.

And just to remind people what he’s capable of, check out that playoff game against the Cavs this year when he scored like 11 points in about 3 mins on a bum knee. You could hear a pindrop in the Q, and could tell the Cavs fans were shook.

  25. jeremy says:

@Blue “the Wizards are a better ‘team’ without Agent 0.”
no one in the DMV believes that. yeah we’re good for 45 minutes, but when the game is on the line arenas is the only one who steps up and when healthy is one of the most clutch players in the league. arenas is a hero in the DMV and has brought the team back from obscurity. stay up

  26. Luigi says:

yeah i love Gil. the DMV area reps him. but ive seen some ppl jump off the Hibachi bandwagon. but soon….theylll be hoppin back on like bitches on top.

  27. rodnets says:

Come on dont be so harsh on him, remember that he accepted to have his salary cut 11 million to improve the team

    LMFAO

  28. jeremy says:

try 15 million- thats enough for a good player
