How Monta Ellis Really Got Hurt

Monta EllisMonta

Like an episode of CSI, increased analysis of the hard evidence of Monta Ellis’ injury is shedding light on what actually happened the day he got hurt.

First, it came out that Monta tore the deltoid ligament in his foot, an injury rarely seen from playing ball. Generally, basketball injuries occur on the pinky toe side of a player’s ankle, not on the big toe side, which is where the deltoid ligament is located.

Add in another new detail that could earn Monta a pretty tough cross-examination – he has various cuts and abrasions on that leg. Unless he was playing in a bunch of bushes, it’s tough to imagine that he got those injuries playing basketball.

Two experts in sports medicine consulted by ESPN.com, granted anonymity because they aren’t privy to the specifics of Ellis’ condition, said that a torn deltoid ligament is rarely seen in basketball. The deltoid ligament, the sources explained, is on the medial (big toe) side of the ankle while the structures typically involved in a high ankle sprain are on the opposite (lateral) side of the ankle. Involvement of the deltoid suggests a more serious rotational injury than those commonly associated with the NBA, the sources said.

  9. Homeless J says:

  18. loganlight says:

Don’t jump to conclusions! Doctor’s say that this injury RARELY happens in basketball…

Yep, and Ron Artest RARELY catches a case.

  19. Kevin says:

I had an injury to the deltoid ligaments from playing ball and it’s still bothering me two years later. Some days it will make a crack or snapping sound on every step. I had just come back from another ankle sprain when I got it. I was rotating on it while doing what commentators have idiotically started to describe as the “european two step”.

Quit speculating and wait for the results, or else you’re all just a bunch of gossip queens.

  20. LakeShow84 says:

OUCH i thought Monta was smarter than this..

He just pulled a Vlad.. Damn.. good thing the warriors are my B team..

  21. Random Guess says:

    Barefoot Thornball injury?

  22. Coop says:

How about you all wait until something is actually proven.

All I hope is that whatever he was doing was worth it; kicking SJax repeatedly in the head and neck, for example.

  23. Scottee says:

This tells us nothing of how he “Really Got Hurt.” All this says is what happened to the ankle. Give us the good stuff yo

  24. smokez4Dayz says:

That could still be a bball injury, I used to walk on my toes, and always had the aggravating pain on the big toe side of my foot, I was also chubby, and not dunking, but still, I could be a basketball injury. Unless, he hurt his toe on the gas pedal of a bentley.
