It’s official: Oklahoma City Thunder
OKC ThunderAfter weeks of guessing and some timely leaks, the Oklahoma City NBA franchise has an identity: The Thunder.
OKC just unveiled the new name and logo seconds ago, and like a lot of people said about the leaked logo, it does have a certain WNBA feel. I’m generally not a fan of names that don’t make for good plurality (Jazz, Heat, Sky, Storm), and while I’m not gonna waste my time trying to come up with a good team name for Clay Bennett’s strong-arm robbery ownership group, I think we all can agree “Thunder” wasn’t the best option.
Meanwhile, check out this column from The Oklahoman’s Berry Tramel. I honestly can’t figure out if he’s being sarcastic or if he’s just a dope.

Cant they come up with any new/interesting colors for a team. Now the Knicks/Bobcats & Thunder have the main blue&orange color scheme.
The logo is terrible, the font is awful. We dont have a look at the jerseys yet but I am afraid for the OKC fans.

as a soincs fan today i have mixed emotions. i lost my team and there was no way i was going to become a okc fan so i’m still pissed about that – seeing how awful the logo is and seeing the reactions of everyone hating on it has given me something to smile about for the first time regarding the nba. bankrupt okc, go bankrupt you okc clowns.

I happen to agree with Mo (post #31). The people of Oklahoma will probably like it. Red, white, and blue goes well in the bible belt. Problem is nobody outside of Oklahoma will give a damn. More importantly most players will think twice before signing with them.

They could of at least created a logo… that’s just the initials and a word mark. How about some clouds and a lightning bolt? Lame.
What’s worse is that I can imagine Stern looking to sell merchandise with this crappy “image” just to change it in 2 or 3 years for more cash flow.
This is such a disappointment.
