Jamal Crawford Has Eddy Curry’s Back

Jamal Crawford‘Mal

The NBA’s newest blogger is using his page to throw his support behind one of the League’s most hated players. And maybe, in doing so, Jamal Crawford is providing an answer to every Knick fans biggest question right now: Why would the Knicks hold on to Eddy Curry and get rid of Zach Randolph?

People are really down on Eddy, but the Eddy they saw last season isn’t really Eddy. Yea, last year was a down year for him and he would be the first to tell you that…he puts more pressure on himself then anyone else could. I know he cares because after a lot of losses we would say, “If we could just get a couple of wins in a row…” It really bothered him… Our fans are hard on him because you guys see what he can be, how dominant at times he is, and when you guys don’t see that all the time you wanna strangle him!

Knick fans in general could use a little bit more sympathy. Based on what ‘Mal said about Curry, Eddy’s clearly a sensitive guy who doesn’t do well when things are looking down. But it’s tough to come off of calling Curry the biggest waste in the NBA when he posted 13.2 points and an inexcusable 4.7 rebounds per game last season.

However, in the event that the Randolph-for-Darko/Marko trade goes through, Curry will be the Knicks’ primary offensive option on the block, which could help his confidence. Ideally, David Lee could pitch in and get a couple boards that Z-Bo would have pulled down otherwise.

Do you agree with Crawford that Curry’s career in New York can still be salvaged?

Yes, He put up near all-star numbers 2 years ago in the East. Curry is still young enough, dude is only 25.

  2. that's whats up says:

he has his back ’cause there’s no way Crawford could get near his front

  3. George W Kush Sr says:

If this trade goes through, Randolph is gonna have a better season than Curry.
If this trade doesn’t go through, Randolph is gonna have a better season than Curry.
Starting to think Walsh is just as big an idiot as Thomas was. . .

  4. fiyaman says:

    no..trade his fatass

  5. QueSt??? says:

jamal must be blind, when was curry dominant????!??!

  6. TCL says:

The only time Eddy Curry was dominant was at the post-game buffet.

  7. Joe says:

I don’t think you can salvage a center who, in a career year, puts up a whopping 7 boards a game

  8. it aint easy being green says:

not only is curry not “dominant” but from this article, it sounds like he’s a pussy too. pipe down and produce!!!
    stop cryin

  9. dc says:

yeah curry is only 25, but the flip side is, he’s 25. it’s not like he’s heading into his 2nd year in the league. dude’s been around for a minute. if your 7′ tall, 280-plus lbs, & you can’t grab more rebounds per game than jason kidd, something’s wrong! it’s not the coaching, it’s not the losing, it’s a poor work ethinc & that can’t be cured by the fans not booing when you play poorly.

  10. GEE...new finishing move...the slap you silly says:

Jamal is cool and all but I can’t get down on the Curry thing. Need to bounce dude outta town.

  11. Wake says:

    @TCL

That’s nothing. You should’ve seen him on the POST post-game buffet. Domination.

  12. dukesman2000 says:

No, I do not agree…Eddy is a bum

  13. ben says:

    @WAKE

    dummy

  14. Big V says:

Look at what he did two years ago on the Knicks. The dude is NICE. He just has a problem with his attitude and his weight, and it’s not the type of attitude problem that Z-Bo has, it’s more an issue of confidence and work ethic, which I think will come to him as the Knicks pick up. He’s an automatic double-team in the post with a nice touch. Sometimes it takes a winning team to help develop a winning mentality, even though the converse is true as well. In any event, I’d rather stick with Curry than Z-Bo, even though I prefer to keep em both.

    big v is isaiah disguised

  16. AY says:

the knicks need more and better trainers; their guys are always hurt or are always out of shape. Some of it comes from a player’s off-season preparation, but some of it has do be related to the training staff. It’s a theme: Camby got hurt less after leaving the knicks, allan houston retired from injuries on the knicks and he’s a jump shooter, they lost a few tight series near ewing’s end because he got hurt. Marbury used to never get hurt, now he’s always got one injury or another. The whole last year, only crawford didn’t get hurt, everyone else is always on the IL. It’s a lot easier to stay in shape if you’re not constantly elevating your ankle.

  17. parinaz suns says:

no especially now with dantoni as coach he’ll look even slower and fatter next to everybody else

  18. schoops says:

Curry is useless. He’s got more natural talent than anyone and hasn’t done sh*t with it. His lack of rebounding and porous defense is what bothers me the most. With his size it just takes EFFORT. Ship his fat ass out of NY asap. That or tell him to grow a pair. Maybe Oakley can come in, slap some sense into him, and maybe let him borrow a testicle.

@AY… um, when you get paid millions of dollars you should be expected to keep your fatass in shape. They aren’t 12 year olds, they’re grown men and should act like it. Their job is to play basketball. Most of the players you listed got older, then got injured. that’s how it works. And camby is just a weird case… he was “mr. glass” until he turned 30 and became an iron man. Also, players last year might have been “injured” because they couldn’t face playing for such a pathetic team and coach every night.

  19. rodnets says:

Oakley gives him some eggs and Kobe pours his DNA on them

  20. Promoman says:

Randolph’s a better player than Curry. Eddy looks better than he really is as long as he’s not doubled or matched up against an elite or any better-than-average post player. His conditioning and flab may be due to that heart condition of his. That was a major reason Chicago traded him to the Knicks in the 1st place.

  21. heartbreaker85 says:

the knicks need bouncers, wwe batista type ones who can pull curry, z-bo, q-rich and jerome james off the buffet table. that’s why jc looks so thin on tv.

  22. heartbreaker85 says:

    @Promoman says:

betcha he got that heart condition from all the junk he’s eating

  23. solomon says:

    the knicks need jerry sloan…

he’d make them work like bitches…

  24. johnsacrimoni says:

If he can get his ass in shape he can average 20 ppg in the east. We all know the guy’s not a rebounder, focus on his strengths and put a rebounder next to him at PF. Rik Smits wasn’t a rebounder either but he was a good scorer and the Pacers always put “tough” guys next to him at PF. I’m not defending his lack of rebounding for his size, I’m just saying play to his strengths.

  25. smokez4Dayz says:

curry is the keeper. Zach is trade bait. To have the Phoenix System working you need one big man, not two.

As a side note: who the hell is Crawful to be having his own blog. dude is the ultimate loser. Chicage went to the playoffs the year he left. He’s been Isiah and LB teachers pet. He cant drive to whole with strength, always some dipsy doo doo. I hate his game. As a Knick fan, I can’t stand his quiet demeanor. Those are always the biggest bums, the quiet guy who doesnt say anything controversal, look at his game. he takes 23 shots to score 23 points. He never ‘not’ shoot. every trip down he shoots. He’s never went 6 possesions and not shoot. His defense is so great, that Marbury and Q used to have to stick the other teams star guard. Marbury is known to open his mouth. Crawford is known for nothing. He’s in NY and he’s not a star. If he got cut, NO ONE WOULD SIGN HIM. NY always overvalue their bum. Crawford is a bum

  26. smokez4Dayz says:

You fans or posters, are comical. In true reality, so sarcasm. EDDY CURRY is a SPECIAL PLAYER. I am glad we have a scoring Center. But the other pieces that you guys dont look at is whats wrong. You need D.Lee starting and you need Marbury starting, thats when EDDY is at his best. Not Crawford, or Q. or Nate. but most of you try to be comedians, and you say stupid things about Marbury, but you don’t really know the league. Marbury is the goods. Stop with the videos, and shit talk about tatoos, Marbury is golden, and the Knicks upper manangement knows this. Unlike their fickle and mostly young idiot fan base.

  27. AB40 says:

uhm before last season he was their primary option… and this article could be of that season or the season before. Eddy Curry doesn’t seem to be himself on the court EVER. just shup up and play let your instincts do the talkin and if you don’t have the skills to do that get back in the gym lose some weight and start workin on your game playa

  28. 6floorsfinest says:

That cat just needs to work on his game and the rest will take care of itself. Show up and play hard and the Garden won’t have a problem with him. 1 beef I have with his game though is how long it takes him to get a shot off. He has a habit of using up a lot of clock to get to the cup but not finishing with points or a foul. Either way it goes though, if money shows up with his best he won’t have any beef!!

  29. analord says:

    Keep the weight down
    Keep away from foul trouble
that’s two of the most important thing for Curry, easier said than done though.

7 years in, Eddy Curry still shows flashes of brillance once in a while. That’s why a lot of ppl are high on him. And for the exact same reason, ppl are hard on him.

He’s capable of becoming an offensive force in the middle, at the age where true centers are rare. He’s capable of becoming something special, the question is will we ever see that potential being realized.

And when Darko gets traded to the Knicks, now there are two guys that are in desperation of proving their worth.
Eddy had a good year a couple of seasons ago. Darko, so far, have been sub-par to average at best….
