Serge Ibaka is the next Andre Iguodala
One more reason why I wish I could root for the Seattle Supersonics this year instead of hating the Oklahoma City Thunder: Serge Ibaka. Forget that I personally went through an epic game of international phone tag just to get Serge into Dime #42’s Summer Players To Watch feature (read it HERE), but after my man Ibaka was drafted by my Sonics in June, I was looking forward to watching the kid develop into possibly something special. Having just turned 19, Ibaka has already been compared to a young Shawn Kemp by some scouts, and judging by this Spanish league dunk contest footage from over the weekend (Serge is the one in the red who dunks first), dude’s got a little A.I.2 in his game as well…

the next iguodala?
is that even a compliment?
Iggy can’t dribble and he can’t shoot. but i still like him as a balla.
but seriously…..you want us to read this link and Iggy was the best comparison you could come up with? thats like being on the B/C list out in hollywood
…side note…
Andre Iguodala had the best dunk in the NBAs slam dunk contest history. shame them puss ass judges gave it to that midget in ny.
Iggy’s behind the backboard dunk was the greatest dunk in nba history. that will NEVER be repeated again
oh yeah…who is serge ibaka anyway?

Ibaka is loooooong. He’s pretty skinny though. I see them stashing him in Europe for a while. Dude needs to add some weight/muscle.
So, the dunk with the kid sitting on the rim…is it me, or does it hit little dude’s cubes before going in? If so, I’m pretty sure nobody’s ever dunked off a guys nuts before.
Reminds me of those Jordan/Bird comercials: “…off that kids nuts, nothing but net.”

I’m 27 years old. 6′0″ at 190 lbs. I can do every dunk that the fellow in the green did.

@Jah — I don’t care about Pops Mensah-Bonsu. But Ibaka dunked from the free throw line (pretty easily) and did Iguodala’s dunk. I was impressed.

It would be an inspired move for Serge Ibaka to grow a big, greasy Rollie Fingers mustache.
Hear me out on this one. Right now he’s just a skinny kid with skill. He needs a gimmick. I’ve always maintained that Ammo got drafted third overall by the Bobcats because there just aren’t enough basketball players who look like heroin-addicted gay porn stars. His prepubescant “pedo-stache” gimmick (and crying during the NCAA tournament) got him a lot more draft buzz than any aspect of his actual game did.
You can’t tell me a guy named Serge shouldn’t have a Rollie Fingers mustache. I’m pretty sure it’s mandated by law in some countries. In addition to this, a badass stache like that would surely trump Morrison’s, and it would be an even better home game fan gimmick than Verajao’s hairdo. Hand out fake mustaches at the door! You can’t tell me this idea doesn’t scream money. Sure, the kid can ball, but can he grow a mustache so thick that he can comb it? That’s what I’d really want to know if I were an NBA GM.

@Jah
If you are 6′0, 190 and can dunk from the free-throw line you are setting some kind of world record. That is to say I think you are telling us a lie.
@Austin
I thought Ibaka was the steal of the draft and was pumped to see him in the NBA until OKC got him. I don’t blame the kid for staying at home.
For those who don’t know who he is – Ibaka is 6-10 or 6-11 and has a 40 inch vert and can shoot from mid-range, 3pt and score from inside (obviously)

Whens the last time you saw an international player hold his own based of athletic ability alone in the nba? If you said never you would be correct…he has hops, but so does half of UNLV’s squad and I don’t see any of them doin ish…I expected a more dominant dunk performance or some in-game highlights or something!…weak..

You’re a moron…how is is not a compliment? If anything it’s an insult to AI2. Dude avg’d 20 pts, 5.4 boards, 5 dimes and 2 steals last year, played 39.5 minutes a game in all 82 games. If I’m not mistaken was MVP of the Rook/Soph Challenge the year before last right? He had two triple-doubles in one season at ZONA – the only other PAC10 player with two in one season is Jason Kidd, a first ballot HOFamer. The only reason it’s a bad analogy is because Ibaka is 4 inches taller than he is. The guy hasn’t even played a game yet. Not to mention the dunk he did was easier than Iggy’s because he didnt go across the backboard. If Ibaka’s first three seasons are half as good as Iggy’s I think OKC will be happy…because they are gonna suck this year.
