Stephen Curry Sidekick’s Dream is Over

Remember Davidson’s Jason Richards? He was the PG racking up crazy assist numbers because his main job was feeding Stephen Curry as he ran off staggered screens, and he came painfully close to sending Kansas home early in the NCAA Tournament.

On the low, he was in the mix to land a spot with the Miami Heat, a team with crazy issues at the point guard spot. Between THIS and the fact that the only other PG under contract is Marcus Banks, there was a glimmer of hope for Richards to sneak onto the opening night roster. Not this year. The undrafted Richards hurt himself after the Orlando Pro Summer League and word comes out this morning that he’s torn his ACL.

That opens the door for the Heat to bring back Chris Quinn, who is mulling not one but two (!) offers from Miami. From the Sun Sentinel:

Quinn, a restricted free agent, has two standing offers from the Heat, which can match any outside offer. One is the one-year qualifying offer, at $972,000. The other is a two-year deal.

“It’s up to Quinny,” Heat President Pat Riley said. “We’ve offered him a couple years from the qualifying offer. He hasn’t been able to bring us an offer. We want Quinny back. So he has the choice.”

Sounds about right – Chris Quinn making Pat Riley sweat it out.

  2. shake&bake says:

Damn, I was really hoping Richards would make it cause he’s from the same high school conference as me. What an unfortunate break for him.

  3. Shogun says:

I thought Chris Quinn was the worst point guard in the NBA last year. I wonder what Riles sees in him that makes him want “Quinny” back?

  4. jimmhumm says:

Is Smush “Rondo Light” Parker getting the same deal? Is Mario out of the mix? Why are they throwing cash at this guy? He ain’t Blake or Udrih. Dude’s game is wack. The only thing he did last year was stay of the IR.

  5. Mike says:

Hey shake&bake, what HS you from? I went to Conant and was a year older than Richards. I played against him probably close to a dozen times. Its too bad he got hurt. It would be cool seeing him in the L.

  6. shake&bake says:

@ Mike, I played at Hersey.

  7. QueSt??? says:

how can that dude get two offers from the heat? and carlos arroyo is not in the league??? man id probably play better than him, its no that hard, dribble and pass dribble and pass, and occasionally shoot.

  8. Tony says:

Too bad Richards got hurt. He was the one keeping Davidson in the game against Georgetown in the first half. How is Quinn actually getting 2 offers?!?

  9. Young Lebron 23 says:

Put Wade at point and Dorrell Wright at the 2

  10. Mr.C says:

I need a look from the Heat.

  11. derrick says:

man, quinn was a good fantasy pickup at the end last year!

  13. jace says:

chris quinn sucks. well actually hes almost solid. but cmon.. that guy gets beasted by everyone who opposes him. mario chalmers seems like the right choice. tell riley to take a chance on shaun livingston.
