Stephon Marbury Saga To End This Week
StephAfter a summer spent running the hills of Southern California, Stephon Marbury won’t need his improved conditioning in New York after all. Reports are that the Knicks are awaiting approval from MSG Chairman James Dolan to finally buy Steph out of his $21.9 million deal by the end of the week.
Even after taking the better part of a year away from the team, the chemistry issues between Starbury and the rest of the Knicks haven’t gone away.
Marbury, who created a huge divide between himself and teammates after he went AWOL in Phoenix last November, stayed to himself with his workouts at the MSG Training Center this offseason until yesterday, when he joined the other Knicks veterans in pickup games. One observer from yesterday’s workout noted the uneasy atmosphere among the other players. “You could just feel the hate,” the person said.

Man…what a waste of money and time…NBA has become a sess pool of no talent players. We were in the last great era of basketball when Jordan retired for the second time from the Bulls. The league needs to start paying players on a merit basis, because these big contracts are starting to threaten the very fabric of where true basketball lovers are holding on too.

Good riddance, can’t cure the team until you remove the cancer. Old, selfish, childish, and not nearly as talented as people make him out to be. Just cut loose Crybaby and move forward a better TEAM.

ITs a shame, I really hope Steph gets a job in the NBA just to try and prove the haters wrong.
And Danillo is gonna be a player, at worst he’s Bargnani at best he’s Dirk.

That big of an expiring contract would have made a good bargaining chip. I guess they’d rather clear money, have a losing record, and hope for LeBron than use it to get a star this year.

Of course Knicks fans are going to cry. The Knicks problems go FAR beyond Marbury; Thomas did a ton of damage to the Knicks over the past few years. While Marbury definitely can be a difficult person, he’s not the reason the Knicks suck.
I’ll be glad to see him play in Miami next season, and possibly the next. I’d give him a one year guarantee with a team option on the second. If he’s really in the best shape of his career, I can see him having a nice season playing next to Wade, who makes everyone around him better…and that would include Marbury.

The team will suck even worse, wait till opening night when all knick fans and the most negative media types in the world look up and realize phucking chris duhon and roberson are running the point and we still suck..then what who gets fired/traded i love my city but sometimes that negative shytt is overbearing everyone was so happy when steph came home now they are so quick to turn their backs on one of the greatest ball players to ever come out of this city…
Best Wishes Steph phuck em…somebody will see ur true value…just don’t do any interviews wherever u end up…

Yay for buy outs. Steph gets a big paycheck to not play anymore…just so in a month, he can sign on to a contender and win a chip warming the bench. Name a team outside of San Antonio that isn’t frothing at the mouth to get Marbury for cheap.

Why not just send him home, tell him he’s not welcome but that the checks will still be good, and try to deal his expiring deal in Feb.?

Mike says:
Marbury is going to sign with the Warriors. All they’d need is a headcase center to fill out their line-up. Look at what they would have:
PG – Stephon Marbury
SG – Corey Maggette
SF – Stephen Jackson
PF – Al Harrington
Maybe they can trade Biedrins for Rasheed Wallace. Do you think Latrell Spreewell can be lured out of retirement? Could they get Dennis Rodman to sign on as an assistant coach?

jimmhumm says:
@ Yall Already know. Whatever. Steph was that dude at one time in his career. Right now he is at the end of his career. Same thing for Tim Hardaway at the same time in his career. It happens to every player. But between 96 and 2004 Steph was breaking ankles and making exciting plays. I bet you think Rod Strickland was a wasyed career too.
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Celts Fan says:
@Jimm, what did Marbury ever win? Nothing. How many times was the team trading him pumped to be getting rid of him? Every time. How many teammates did he alienate? A ton. Was he a pass-first PG/a guy other plays liked to play with? Not at all. How is his salary scale? TOP FIVE IN THE LEAGUE.
game over.
Short of the “You getting in or what?” amazingness and the GREAT idea of the $15 kicks, he’s done nothing redeeming at all in his career.

George W Kush Sr says:
Dennis Rodman has 5 rings, he played a HUGE role in the last 3.
Spreewell led his squad to the Finals, and kept his act pretty clean, up until the “feeding my family” comment.
Rasheed Wallace is who gave Detroit that push into champioship territory, the man has only one ring, but 6 conference championship appearances, in other words, a recognized winner.
Isaah Thomas was the worst thing that ever happened to the Knicks, he buried any good moves he did under layers of L’s, and is responsible for the “demise” of Starbury in partnership with Larry Brown.
I’ll be happy as hell when Starbury get $18 Million to leave and then signs onto a contender for a ring.
Fuck all the haters.

Guaranteed Steph will obliterate a team or two this season if he gets picked up (which I can’t see not happening). I’m talking a couple of 40 point games; hopefully it ain’t against us…..
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:57 pm
George W Kush Sr says:
If Steph can go on any team, i’d recommend the Celts.
Rondo still starts, but this way they have a scorer coming off the bench, that could help with the progress of DMiles, not putting too much pressure on him to produce, and generally just replacing Sam Cassel.
Gives Starbury a chance to play with KG again, and i dont think he’ll be negative presence in the locker room because he’ll be the 4th biggest dog in the room, his bark wont make much noise.
My other choice is Dallas, being that Kidd only gets his ass handed to him by PGs like Deron and Paul, Marbury would match up great against those guys/games.
Just my opinion.

haha. lol. are you comparing steph to rod strickland? its a no brainer. every coach (past/present) would take rod strickland. it wouldn’t even be close. marbury’s 1000s brothers would rather have rod strickland in their family than steph. lol.
rod strickland was ill; not sick. he would post other PGs up and he wasn’t even a tall pg.
dont ever compare a bum like marbury to any decent player. the dude has been all hype since he was 15yrs old. had 1 good in at georgia tech and has been stinking up the nba ever since

i wouldnt say steph is bad, but strick was DEF that dude…
September 23rd, 2008 at 1:22 pm

ya right
Steph would bust Strickland’s ass.
This is always funny, yall cant even control your hate. Why not just say that Marcus Banks is better than Steph?
How much better did Minnesota get when Steph left?
When he was in Jersey and Phoenix, he always tried to do too much, and those teams did get better as soon as he left, because they ended up getting Kidd and Nash.
When he got traded to NY, all he wanted to do was make the team better, but got fucked over by Thomas. Yall can keep hating though

September 23rd, 2008 at 1:44 pm

Strickland was a better point guard but that doesn’t mean that steph sucks because strickland can’t do some of the things steph does vice versa…They are both 2 of the most talented players ever at the pg position..key word is talent, steph just couldn’t put it all together to equal w’s..
but please stop with everyone’s favorite phrase all of a sudden shoot first pg, who gives a phuck win games!!! isiah thomas was a shoot first, who cares he ran the offense efficiently and won games, tim Hardaway,Van Exel,Tony parker, kevin johnson, sam cassell, terell brandon, gary payton all of these guys can be considered shoot first…Steph hasn’t propelled his team to wins that the problem period…
September 23rd, 2008 at 2:15 pm
john says:
to the person above. Steph couldn’t put all his talent together to equal W’s? every good bbball player will win. Just because someone looks like he’s an nba player but loses throughout his career doesn’t equal talent. They just suck.
September 23rd, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Mike says:
I can see why people would rip on Steph for not winning in Phoenix because he essentially had the same group core as Nash (STAT, Matrix, JJ, Jake Tsakalidis…just kiddin). He simply was a bad fit. But you can’t knock him for losing in Jersey. I think even Kobe or Lebron would be sub 500 with a cast of Lucious Harris, Jonny Newman, Jim McCalvaine, Georghe Muresan, Aaron Williams (even though the dude did pull down boards left and right). Then who was the 2nd man on that squad? KVH. KMart was never healthy. Same with Kerry Kittles. Once JKidd got there everybody was healthy and they made some key additions, with players who meshed well with Kidd.
September 23rd, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Scott says:
It’ll be interesting to see how many teams actually do express an interest.
Everyone talks about how he’d work for Miami, but he really wouldn’t. Marbury NEEDS the ball in his hands to be effective, and Wade does too, for that matter Beasley will too, and lets be realistic, does anyone think that Miami wants to let Steph be in the same locker as Beasley for a full season or for any period of time. Probably not, especially since the kid already has a bit of a ‘bad rep’ thats undeserving, but having Steph around can’t help that situation at all.
Personally, I think Steph could easily find himself sitting out the season. He’s gone far and beyond being a headcase, the damage he did to the Knicks locker room was more than Isiah ever did. Isiah fucked up the organization, Steph fucked up the locker room or so it seems. The biggest concern you hear these days is a players ‘character’.
NYK has been bad news for players, Francis and now Steph, here’s hoping JC withstands the NYK curse, heh.

estatic isn’t even the proper word, but the best i can come up with right now. send him home. i’d rather they just send him home w/o the buy out so he wouldn’t be able to play for anyone else this season, but it’s whatever. the dude is a cancer to any team he plays on. let the rebuilding commence in earnest!
