Forget the 18-for-31 (58%) field goal shooting. Forget the four threes. Forget the 22 free throws out of 25 tries (88%). Forget that he only had two turnovers despite handling the ball on pretty much every possession. Forget that he scored 62 points in just under 36 minutes of work, and if the Lakers hadn’t already been 30-piecing the Mavs, might have gotten a chance to go for 80 or even 90 points. The Kobe Bryant Haters Club will focus on the fact that on Dec. 20, 2005, Kobe had zero assists.

Thing is, assists are not the be all and end all of how many passes he made. he could have made 50 passes. but if no1 is putting them in the bucket when he does…..
Zero assists.
(by the way, i know this blatantly wasnt the case, he probably made two passes and they were probably off Dirks back too himslef on the inbound ((don’t you hate people who do that in pick ups)) but its just an interesting point)

People forget that Kobe commented on Agent Zero Dropping 60 on his ass by claiming Arenas had no conscience but atleast Arenas had 60pts 8rebs and 8assists during the showdown…Kobe shoulda thought about making some “quality shots” of his own…

I’m not a big kobe fan, but this was an awesome performance by kobe. I watched the 81 point game, and I never witness anything like that before. I called my boy to change the channel to the Kobe game and watch him torch the raps for 81 points, and every time he shot the ball I was jumping out of my seat. THis was the best game I ever witnessed, other than watching Jordan win championships. Damn I witness something that will go down as one of the best performances of all time. I guess everyone can now with youtube and all, but i watched live coverage of the game, so I guess that makes a difference.
Anyway, imagine how many points kobe would have scored if he played the 4th quarter.
Also, if you’re a basketball junky you would appericate a player like Kobe, and the performances he puts on. Anyway, I like $mitty313′s comment “When you have it going like that let it fly.”

lol so easy to forget about this when Kobe scored 81 a few nights later. Easy to forget about the Mavs being a solid defensive team that year as well. Kobe = one of the greatest. I almost miss the days when he was the only legit scoring threat on the team not named Odom.

just because he didn’t have an assist doesn’t mean that he didn’t pass the ball. remember, that laker team featured kwame and smush. also, people forget that the mavs were a top 3 defensive team that year. kobe outscored the entire team by himself by the 3rd quarter. amazing
