We Reminisce: Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf destroys the 72-win Bulls
Feb. 4, 1996. MJ, Scottie, Rodman and the Bulls rode into Denver on an 18-game win streak during the season in which they’d win an NBA-record 72 and claim the Chicago’s fourth championship. But on this night, Jordan and Co. were torn to shreds by Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, whose Lottery-bound squad handed the Bulls their fourth loss of that season. Abdul-Rauf’s 32-point, 9-assist stat line wasn’t historic, but just watch how he plays a near-perfect game from the point guard spot.

The first couple of minutes, he had the G.O.A.T on skates. It’s bad when you take 23 off of him and stick Kerr on him… LOL That’s a classic example of we all have bad days in the office.

He was one of my favorite young PG’s when he was known as Chris Jackson. And when he changed his name, he was borderline allstar. It’s really too bad that he was chastised by the American public for being expressive with his views.

@fallinup
Rauf was a good basketball player, but he shouldn’t have made those comments about the U.S. standing for “tyranny”.
Last time I checked, Rauf was Islamic. It’s funny he says the U.S. has a history of tyranny, when the Islamic faith has used the “Jihad” ideals for centuries to justify their violent behavior.
So, I don’t feel sorry for him one bit, and I’m glad he ended up playing ball in Europe.

I was a fan of Abdul-Rauf’s. To see him put in work, having Tourette Syndrome nonetheless, was amazing. I remember the first time I saw him playing as Chris Jackson at LSU. He was playing against Georgetown, and was giving Charles Smith the business! I was disappointed that they lost to GA Tech in the NCAA tourney his sophomore year. They were loaded. They had Jackson, Shaq, Stanley Roberts, Vernel Singleton, Moe Williamson. I know GA Tech was nice that year, but how do you lose when you open the game on a 17-5 run?

Maybe you guys should read a history book before defending our nation. We’ve installed puppet governments, orchestrated false flag attacks, and have used more weapons of mass destruction than any other nation in the history of the world. The blind patriotism of Americans would be absolutely hilarious if it wasn’t so damn scary.

I’d like to see you guys post the Heat/Bulls game that same year, when the heat only had 8 guys on the roster due to a flurry of trades. Rex Chapman went balls out insane on MJ, and the Heat beat the Bulls, responsible for one of their 10 losses.
Show some love, and find a video if you can. I’d love to see it.

Austin Burton says:
@Tdubbs and Ian — Islam is a religion, not a country. Mahmoud didn’t “bring” anything over to America: he is American.
Either way, every religion has its certain ideals/philosophies that can be twisted by radicals to justify violence. Especially Christianity, which is more the “official” religion of America than any other. Don’t act like terrorist acts and violent behavior is a “Muslim” thing. If you read the texts, Islam is actually one of the more fundamentally peaceful religions out there.

Anyway, funny how the Bulls announcer kind of deadpans, “I don’t think Steve Kerr can keep up with him.”

This has been one of the best basketball clips i’ve ever seen. having the bulls announcers(john kerr) vocals on here is real cool and the music fit perfectly. i used to have abdul rauf and sprewell (two of my favorite players back in the day) on live 96 and have them do the majority of the scoring (along with myself…)

Austin Burton says:
@Ian — I’m referring to when you said (#8) “You can’t bring your s*** with you and expect to be accepted.” I see now you meant “bring” in a less literal sense, so my bad for the mix-up. And the 2nd paragraph was aimed mostly at Tdubbs, I just didn’t clarify.
