Aaron Brooks Dunks On Russell Westbrook
I love Aaron Brooks. I was lucky enough to watch him at the University of Oregon where he was a four-year starter for the Ducks and I fell in love with his game. He’s smart, he’s explosive, and at a generous 6-0, he’s got the heart.
We mentioned it this morning in Smack, but here it is: Aaron Brooks’ alley-oop finish on Russell Westbrook out of the halfcourt set from Brent Barry.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s starting for the Rockets by Christmas.

@David Brandon
I agree. It’s not a straight flush on someone’s grill, but he did the swing around.
@PWEEZY
I agree. Also in NBA Live 09.

Ask any of Westbrook homies & they will say “How you let that little dude punch on you!?” It wasn’t Brooks fault he went over the screen instead of under

Man, Russell did not believe that Aaron Brooks could get up on him like that, shadowing the passing lanes. Barry even pointed up directly before throwing it…ha!
Aron, you a Duck? I’m typing this from the EMU right now, chilling my brain out from writing in Arabic for the past two hours. Give Austin hell–the Huskies are horrible. Almost got in a fight with a Huskie fan last year for telling him, emphatically, that Spencer Hawes had NO chance of being ROY. Hillbilly flipped a fn table at me, insisting I apologize before I kicked him out of my bar.

I’m not a duck, but went to school in Portland so I definitely saw my fair share of games in Eugene.

Homeless J says:
I’ve been able to watch Duck basketball and football games on local TV for years. Although good players do come through periodically, it’s not like a bigger area like NY or NJ or California where every year there are hyped up kids who the media follows from high school to college to the NBA. We don’t get a lot of players who we can watch grow over that period of time or that get their own shows on ESPN like Sebastien Telfair or Lance Stephenson. That makes it even more special and important to me when one does break through that I’ve grown an emotional attachment to from watching over the years.
And who knew he could even get up like that. I’ve seen him dish out a lot of those but I can’t remember a time when he’s done that before, off the top of my head.

Austin Burton says:
@sans — The Huskies are awful; I began the season saying Ty Willingham should get some leeway, but even I have to admit it’s time for a chance. But as bad as UW has been, the WSU Cougars are worse. They’ve given up 60-plus points THREE TIMES this year! (I went to Seattle U, and growing up didn’t grow a particular attachment to the Huskies or the Cougs; although my fiancee went to WSU and I lived in Pullman for a couple years, so I tend to side with them.)
@Homeless J — I’m with you on that one. I grew up with Aaron’s older brother, and went to high school for a year with Aaron. I’m thrilled to see him making his mark on the national stage.

BitterSeattlite says:
Austin, you just lost cred. The Cougars are only relevant because we Huskies pretend like they’re rivals when our team isn’t doing well enough to compete with actual schools. The only school in the Northwest that even compares (academically or athletically) is U of O.
Granted, we’ve been atrocious at the two major sports as of late but let us not forget whose the Northwest’s premier, flagship institution.
P.S. If there are fellow huskies on the site (highly unlikely) I’m sitting in Schmitz Hall right now.

Austin Burton says:
@Bitter Seattleite — The Apple Cups during the Drew Bledsoe era mattered to UW, don’t fool yourself. The way I remember it growing up, even when UW was national championship caliber, the Apple Cup mattered (and was a game they could always lose). But then a Husky would never admit that, so I won’t press you on it.
The Ducks weren’t on the radar up here until Kenny Wheaton’s INT-touchdown in, what, 1994? Until then (at least how I remember it), Oregon was the school that wanted a rivalry with UW, but the Huskies weren’t bothered.
