Al Harrington Demands a Trade

After being named the third and final team captain, alongside Stephen Jackson and Andris Biedrins, it seems odd that Al Harrington has decided that he wants out.
Two NBA sources, both close to the Warriors veteran forward, told me that Al Harrington recently informed the Warriors that he does not want to play for Don Nelson any more and is requesting to be traded as soon as possible.
The Warriors, who appear to be spiraling into oblivion with the loss of Monta Ellis, have enough problems as it is. And what makes this story interesting is that Harrington is fed up with the coach, not the team.
If you’re the Warriors, do keep Harrington or Nelson?

How would trading him to the bulls help the bulls inside scoring? They have enough chumps who want to shoot all the time already

JDig89 says:
He’s a better natural scorer then Noah or Thomas and that would clear up the backcourt some and get rid of the whining Gordon who could go play in a system more fit for him.

Al demanding a trade now makes zero sense for Al or GS. Harrington’s stock isn’t all that impressive so there’s no way of knowing that he will be any happier moving to another team. Who would actually bite to trade for him?
The bottomline: Golden State should have moved Al in the offseason to who ever was willing to take him.
Al should have made his demands known during the offseason. Nellie’s been the coach for a while now, so saying you want traded because of Nellie makes Al look like a moron. They just gave Nelson an extention…so they won’t be getting rid of Nellie.
All of this sums up to one thing. Golden State’s season is in the shitter before it even began.

Maybe The Bobcats can swing something…They could use Al big time…They can give up:
Ray Felton and Nazr Mohammed
For
Al Harrington and Marcus Williams (If Larry Brown can’t teach him no one can)
I should be a GM…The numbers work.

Get rid of Don Nelson’s retarded a$$…they could’ve been in the playoffs last year if not for him screwing the team over at the end of the season…Oh wait, didn’t he just sign an extension??? Guess that won’t be happening.

What about Coby Karl playing in Denver? I like his game and I think he is an upgrade over Anthony Carter and the rest that would play pg behind Iverson.

Kudabeen says:
That Steph trade for Al would be great too. GS doesn’t have the contracts to match unless someone is on their books that’s not on the roster. 20+ million to 9+million.

I’m not a Turk fan in Orlando. I don’t think they are going to be able to resign him and I think he has the ball way too much…I would trade him and Bogans to GS for Al striaght up…
That Moves Lewis to the 3 and frees up tick for redick (if they are really going to play him). GS gets another versatile 6’10 guy to run and gun with and Bogans is a decent ball handler and defender.
Many options, but it probably will be months before GS moves Al, if at all.

Al Harrington to Miami
Mark Blount to GS
Daequan Cook to GS
Miami gets an upgrade at center. GS gets some outside and perimeter shooting at SG and C. I think Blount would do well for Nelson

Don Nelson is gone at the end of the season. He’s been in Danny Glover mode since January of last since (i.e. “I’m too old for this $%!^”). Don Nelson only took the job out of a favor from Chris Mullin. Now the team stinks, there are all sorts of personnel issues, and Chris Mullin is looking like the odd man out in the front office. At best, Don Nelson makes it through this season and then leaves the team.
At the same time, Al has nothing going for him. when the W’s did make the playoffs, he failed to show up (worse than Lamar Odom in last year’s finals). I’d say trade him, but outside of the Pacers looking to dump Jamaal Tinsley, you aren’t going to find anyone trading for Al. If I were Al’s agent, I’d be telling him to bust his ass for the next two months and then start with the trade demand/buy out.
Also, for anyone who thinks Al Harrington can play power forward (or even worse, Center) you are sadly mistaken. Al falls somewhere in between a small forward and a power forward. He isn’t quick enough to defend SFs, but he lacks rebounding and strength at PF. He’ll give you 13 ppg and 5 rpg and not much else.

@ #16 citizenB–
how does the proposal to miami for al harrington help the heat at center? i dont get that one. al harrington is NOT a center.
the warriors have major problems. every year don nelson wants an extension and more money. and chris mullin is getting ready to take a front office position for the Nets when they move back to his brooklyn home town.
as for the roster….
if al harrington wants to be traded, then trade his punk ass to the wolves. kevin mchale would take anyone.

Don Nelson already agreed to a contract extension. Just read it on NBA.com.

They should’ve dumped him when he was a question mark.. Now everyone knows he doesnt have that much to offer and he isnt clutch at ALL..
Too bad.. they could’ve traded him for a good pick.. who knows if Mullin got even more creative he could’ve swung Brandon Wright for Harrington, picks, cash, Barnes, Hell even Sjack..
I thought Baron Davis and Jrich stretched the defense back to its virgin days.. But they gave it one year of TREMENDOUS success and decided to mess it up as the warriors usually do.. Dips

Harrington can play, but his stock is just down in GS. A trade and change of scenery would do him (and potentially his new team) a lot of good, so I don’t blame him. (On the flip side, look at how the trade to GS rejuvinated Stephen Jackson’s career.) Al can (and should) average better than 13 and 5, although admittedly he is not a particularly good rebounder. I thought he was solid when he was in Atlanta and remember him just absolutely abusing (believe it or not) Rasheed W. when they would match up when Hawks played Detroit.
Harrington just better resist following the GS precedent way for dealing with a jerk coach–i.e., the Sprewell sleeper hold.
