Andrew Bynum Welcomes Jason Thompson to the League

All this talk about a Young Shaq got us thinking about another guy who is being called Diesel. The new Andrew Bynum, who looks like he’s been eating the sauce for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, sent one of Jason Thompson’s offerings last night to the frank man.

They’ve definitely got a monster-in-the-making. He looks like he’s been spending a lot of time in the weight room since the injury. Could this be the era of the return of the TALENTED BIG MAN in the NBA? Right now we’ve got…and I’m talking “centers” here:

    - Yao Ming
    - Dwight Howard
    - Greg Oden
    - Andrew Bynum

    Who am I missing here?

  2. Gerard says:

    ^*maybe* Al Jefferson. *maybe*

  3. fallinup says:

Bynum is looking like a man. He’s definetly been banging those weights. Credit Lakers management for not bailing on this kid. The investment has really paid off. He could have easily been another Gerald Green. I remember when most were hyping up Gerald and blasting Bynum.

  4. weezy f says:

im surprised at DIME…you put this weak stuff over beno puttin kobe on his ass!

  5. Willis says:

    great block
    but easy block to make
Brad Miller didn’t even run back on offense
    so Bynum wasn’t guarding anybody

in fact I’d be shocked if he didn’t make that block.

  7. David Brandon says:

    @ weezy,

i was kinda surprised too, b/c we dont always get to see kob’ get styled on anymore. not since the chris childs era at least…

bynum should be a solid player this year. he was nice last year so i kinda wanna see what happens this year for him. i think he’ll make more of a impact than odom though. he just needs a change of scenery or something. between him bein all soft and PJ being too tough for him, its LA’s own version of the AK-47 deal.

i’m still not sold on yao being that good yet. maybe its just me. probably is. but he’s always hurt when they need him. and to me that doesnt really mean youre a superstar. those are the guys that come through when it matters most.
yao’s legs are made of those handi snack breadsticks or somethin’. lol!

  8. E$ says:

he blocks Jason Thompson (???) & he’s a monster, stop trying to pump Bynum up

  9. sans says:

that cross on Kobe was sick! So good to see someone put Kobe down. Damn! That move was delicious!

Oh, and Jason Thompson legitimately owned Odom before getting caught with the swat. Lamar looks to be in for the worst contract-year in the history of pro sports. He better start calling CSKA Moscow before even they don’t want to give him big money.

    @ David Brandon–”yao’s legs are made of handi-snack breadsticks”–hilarious.

  10. Three Stacks says:

It’s just a small sample, it’s not like Dime could put up every single one of his preseason plays.

I’ve watched all three Laker preseason games so far, and Bynum looks pretty healthy. He’s getting up and down the court, looks bigger. All that baby fat he still had even last year seems to be gone. He’s been knocking down open 15 footers, and his post game is improving. Laker fans gotta be happy w/ what they see.

Bynum is never gonna have the straight beastliness of someone like Dwight, but he plays good D, has good footwork, and is a MUCH better shooter. He’s done nothing so far this preseason to quell his fans’ optimism.

  11. sans says:

@Jah…Tyson Chandler, Yao, Camby, Dalembeast, Bogut, Sheed (been holding the 5 for two years now), Mehmet, Horford (really a PF), even Kendrick Perkins is coming along. And we can’t forget about the Pale Rider, Robert Swift, who owns more tattoos than career rebounds.

  12. original2k9 says:

jason thompson gon be a nice player for the kings tho , he had 15 points n 8 boards in that game

  13. weezy f says:

    @ david brandon

yea i dont even like beno that much and i still like that play..not hatin on kobe cuz hes one of my favorite players but damn give credit where credit is due…ps sacramento been having ugly weather these past few days =(

  14. David Brandon says:

    @weezy,

man are in sac?? i thought i was the only one reppin 916 haha!
its nice today tho man! i heard 80 degrees and took the jacket off!

and i’ll admit this just cause its the truth…..kobe’s my favorite player. i get so much crap about it, but like you said, give credit where its due. and if charlotte didnt take him, he’d be a king right now. he did bust his ass tho. looked like someone pulled a rug from under him. must be those light ass hyperdunks baby!!

  15. Jay says:

Talk about a Young Shaq led you to think of that weak block? Young Shaq would have sent that ball to the 5th row.

  16. bballinca says:

Sending the ball out of bounds into the 5th row is probably one of the most common stupid mistakes a player could make. By doing that you don’t give your team a chance to recover the ball. Bynum did exactly what he was supposed to.

  17. weezy f says:

    @ david brandon

nope born and raised right here..haha this is little wierd talkin about weather but i wish it was cloudy i like thse days haha like we had a week ag or soemthing

i stopped really liking the kings after they kept choking in the playoffs now im just a fan of the game and individual players

  20. David Brandon says:

    hahha i know right….

    “how’s the weather?”

“oh, you know…cold an’ shit.” lol…man.

but i still like sac man. you either love it or hate it up here i guess.

and i’m still rollin’ with my kings, but its rough!!! damn, its rough! esp seein everyone else get WAY better and we’re lookin like the west coast version of the bobcats…i dunno. i’ma have to be a hornets fan for right now or something! or the wizards…i like gil too. if he ever plays again. we might see him workin at wal mart before we see him on the court again. lol

  21. Heaven Is A Playground says:

Dime needs to step there game up on this one. So what if AB sent a shot back, he’s a center he’s suppose to do that shit. Now everyone and their two kids are saying he’s the next best thing, wait until the mid-season and see what Bynum his really made of. I ain’t hatin on Bynum, I’m just saying lets watch a real game first before you start to dub Bynum the “young Shaq.”
Oh yeah, the Beno clip was alright, I feel bad for Beno now, because you know Kobe is going too come back the next game and str8 kill Beno, Can’t wait to see that shit unfold.

  22. Yo! says:

looked at the beno “breaks” kobe’s ankle…it was okay but not really an ankle break. it was a nice spin move where beno’s body made contact with kobe which made him fall over.

  23. Yo! says:

    http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=VbFlgE1yS1s&feature=related

    kobe makes beno his bitch

  24. P_Dizzle says:

Yeah that Bynum block was very predictable. Hell, I could have blocked that. Dime, get Bynum’s nuts of your chin. Let’s wait ’til the cat plays a full season, but you are comparing him to Shaq so I guess that ain’t happening.

Any body in the NBA not named Vince Carter or Carmelo Anthony is sending that shot into the 3rd row!!

I agree with the previous posts, should have put that video of Beno putting Kobe on his butt! That’s what we want to see from the preseason, not some mediocre block that some guy from the nose-bleeds saw coming. He didn’t even swat it into anyone’s drink!

    WEAK!

  25. J says:

ummmmm a large but simple block? what is the big fuss. quit jockin the lakers nuts fags. garbage like this is why nobody subscribes to dimemag except for when you have these specials where it is like 81 cents for a years worth or issues. you guys could be a lot better but you put crap like this up. wtf. bring back hoopstv
