BREAKING NEWS: Jamaal Tinsley Traded to the Nuggets
We were joking around the Dime office months ago about putting together the All-Hood team, and I promise Jamaal Tinsley, J.R. Smith and Carmelo Anthony were all on our roster. Now, it looks like they’re all going to play together in real life.
Locked-out Pacers point Jamaal Tinsley was traded to the Nuggets for Chuckie Atkins and Stephen Hunter, The Post has learned.
The deal is contingent on Tinsley passing a physical. Chronically injured over the last four years (only once playing more than 42 games) and embroiled in violent encounters on three separate occasions (none of which he instigated), he spent all summer in Atlanta rehabbing his body and is said to be a great condition.
Denver assumes his $21M, 3-year debt. Atkins is due $3.24M and $3.48M while Hunter is guaranteed $3.86M and $3.69M. Less than half of their total salary remaining is guaranteed.
If Jamaal is actually in great condition as has been said, this could be a solid move for the Nuggets. Though they’re still perilously thin up front, rumors are that Nene looks like Nene back when he used a last name. What was it again? Hilario? Offensively, Tinsley is more capable than any PG that Denver has had in the ‘Melo/AI era. But as always, the biggest question for the Nuggets is whether they can guard anyone. And a backcourt of Tinsley and AI wouldn’t fair all that well against the League’s bigger guard tandems.

Why would you trade for a locker room killer?
That makes no sense team wise. Fan wise that is arguably two of the best ballhanders together on the same squad. They may not get wins but they sure will break some ankles.

tinsley would probably be considered a locker room killer around Richard Jefferson/Shane Battier (oreo) type dudes, but with a.i., melo, j.r. and k-mart he will be right at home. if this team can get a stop on defense here and there they are definitely playoff bound.
btw, tinsley is in great shape now and loves to pass on a team full of gunners. this might be a great move for them.

So they get rid of camby to cut cost but get tinsley at 21M, maybe im missing something does anyone know the financial details of these moves by nuggets as off late?
on the court it’s not a bad move they’ll get buckets, but it will be a feast or famine type team, one night they will blow some good teams out the next they may lose to bad ones, no telling but there’s so many pieces in the locker room that are phucked up they may actually band together

but wasn’t Nene injured then too? lol. i just hope everybody that is consistently injured will play a 1 season, just 1 season, uninjured so we can see if these people are as good as we think they are/can be. I’m looking at you, Greg Oden, Nene, Rob Swift, Adam Morrison, Sean May…and many more…

steven hunter is gettin old soon. i thought that he would have had a good chance in denver with them being so thin in the front court. i still believed that he could be a starting center (as a strict rebounder and moderate shot blocking presence).

Defense starts with attitude, and the will, heart!
You can have one or two good defenders i.e. Boston, Detroit, and you make the rest of the team better.
Tinsley is good passer, decent scorer.

Anyway, this’ll go well with the Nuggets whole, “lots of talent, not a lot of team success to show for it” identity.
I see this as more of a good move for the Pacers, to get rid of that contract/thug persona. After all, it’s not like they were going to get a full 82 games out of Tinsley anyway.
Btw, Tinsley’s making 7 mil?! No wonder Ben Gordon thinks that he can get more than 10 a year.

Who knows? Maybe the Nuggets will actually band together as a team now that they all have a few things in common: extensive police records, conflicts with the league, too much bravado, etc. I think the league should lift its dress-code just for the Nuggets—it would really complete the look (and we all know AI would be very happy).

@Control
‘Melo is not a guy that I would mess with. He might look soft but he comes from very tough streets and probably knows some very bad dudes.
I don’t get this trade althought Tinsley needed to be moved and he certainly fits in better with this Denver squad than with Indiana.
Does this mean that Iverson is the Nuggets starting SG? I don’t think that is their best option. I thought JR Smith was finally going to get some PT beside Iverson in the backcourt. The only way this makes sense to me is if Tinsley is used to help reduce Iverson’s minutes in this lineup
PG – Iverson/Tinsley
SG – JR/Sonny Weems
SF – Carmelo/Balkman
PF – KMart/Klieza
C – Nene/??

Kobeef,
There is video proof out there that he spent most of his time on those tough streets perfecting the moonwalk. I bet if he started dressing like Kris Kross, he would appear to run faster. He might know some guys, but knowing guys don’t make you a thug.

these cats are just regular dudes that lived in the hood that happened to get money and think they are untouchable so they get into certain situations, club fights, court fights, may smoke a little herb, may phuck some chicks off the fame, may place some bets, may buy some pitbulls and guns, but they not killers or nothing

This trade is being denied by a lot of parties right now.
If it does go through then I really don’t understand the Camby trade. They’re both injury-prone and have been known to cause problems but Camby was basically the only thing stopped the opposite team scoring 200. Tinsley sure isn’t going to help in that regard.

just run. just try to outscore opponents, no defense.
you know, they’ll lose, but it will be entertaining.
games would be like 130-125 in favor of opponents.

A better trade would be with the Bulls. If you are going to trade Steven Hunter (which they shouldn’t) at least get a player like Hinrich out of Chicago. He had a bad year last season, but he’s due for a fresh start somewhere.
I don’t like Tinsley in Denver. Not because of any thuggery. Carmelo is not really a thug, neither is AI. They are just from the hood so they are a little rough around the edges, but otherwise they just look the part. Now Jamal, JR, Kenyon, and Trina might get into some shit.

Cammy Z says:
This move makes sense and the Camby dump doesn’t seem stupid. This is why: the Nuggets now, have three talented players at the 1,2 and 3, all of whom are in their 20’s (Tinsley, ‘Melo and J.R.). That means they have years to work with. Camby shouldn’t be around too much longer. Now, if they can swap A.I. for some pieces they need, they’ll be set for the long haul. If not, they got about three years or so, then they gotta’ bring A.I. of the bench and make J.R. the main SG option.
