Come Back Here Tonight

Keeping with our new real-time coverage of the NBA as it happens that kicked off last night, here are some of the main games and story lines we will be covering as-it-happens tonight on dimemag.com:
- Opening Night at Madison Square Garden – Various members of the Dime Crew will be in the house, bringing you everything that is happening before, during and after the game. We’ve been told that the pre-game ceremonies are going to be over the top, so we will bring you the visuals. Plus, we’ll be all about Michael Beasley‘s NBA debut.
- O.J. Mayo’s Debut – Derrick Rose killed it in his NBA debut last night, and now it’s O.J.’s turn.
- The Battle for L.A. – You know how we feel about the clips, and the Lakers looked strong in their opener last night. Baron says he’ll try to play. Could be a sick Kobe/Boom Dizzle shootout.
We’ll be covering these storylines and much more tonight, so come back early and often.

There is no battle, it’s a Lakers town always has been always will be…
And as far as a shoot out, we don’t need Kobe to do that anymore, we go like 11 deep.

QUOTE THIS
Memphis doesnt score more than 75 tonight.. They’re are going to pound that post into oblivion and the Grizzlies wont be able to run all game..
And haterade is on it.. we dont need a Kobe shoot out anymore (but watch everyone start to hate on it and complain, when he did do it he was just a ballhog) we too deep for that.. Really with the pieces we got i dont think Kobe even needs to play tonight..

And it sucks because with Kobe not a one man show this will give Dime a chance to post up the “King Lebron James greatest in the NBA” article..
And i aint said it yet but man The Celtics won and LBJ didnt do nothing spectacular and whos mug is on the Pic AGAIN??
At least get some new pics! Shit!
October 29th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:
@ LakeShow84–
You all ready know Dime’s gonna post that “King Lebron James greatest in the NBA”… And everyone gonna be hatin on KB24, but hey did you see how LBJ missed like 3 out the last 4 free throws he took. Reggie Miller said it best, in order for Lebron to get to that next level he has to hit those free throws and get a better jumper from deep.

As a Laker fan, I’d like the rest of the world to know that we’re not all obnoxious and that only a select few like to complain about the future possibility of Kobe being hated on, before it even happens.
Lebron took the Celtics to 7 games all by himself, which Kobe could not do. Lebron can win a series by himself, all the Cavs gotta do is play good defense, pound the air out the ball and let Lebron do his thing, i.e. create open jumpshots and get to the foul line.
Kobe, as great as he is, isn’t capable of winning a physical series like that by himself. His legs aren’t the same as a couple years ago, he shies away from contact now.
I love Kobe, but he’s slowly settling for jumpers and pulling a VC on us. Pierce proved in the Finals that if you stick a heavier man on him, Kobe’s not gonna drive the lane. So unless Kobe starts attacking again and getting to the line, Lakers are gonna lose in the playoffs.

Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:
Until LBJ wins a ring, Hits clutch free throws, scores 81 in a game, 62 in 3 qtrs (more than the other team), leads team USA in the fourth to a victory in Gold Medal
–Bill Simmons on Team USA
“for most of the Games, Team USA had an alpha dog issue. Was this Kobe’s team or LeBron’s? Fast-forward to 8:13 left: Fernández’s three cuts the lead to two; the crowd is going bonkers. Spain’s bench reacts like a euphoric 15-seed during a March Madness upset, and the U.S. calls timeout. All along, my biggest fear had been a tight game and multiple USA guys saying, “I got it!” Instead, everyone deferred to Kobe, who made some monster plays to clinch it. Know that in the history of the NBA we have never had the best-player-alive argument resolved so organically. Incredible. Kobe, you have the Lord of the Flies conch. Use it wisely.”
Kobe hit the 3 and the foul causing Fernandez to foul out, he hit Deron for a 3 and after the time out that little floater in the lane and then of course the clutch free throws that LBJ never makes.

kobe’s not vince man go somewhere else with that…..its called being smarter……u cant even compare him to vince cuz vince stopped a long time ago…..kobe doesn’t have to do much now so he doesnt have to force things now dont confuse that with being soft….if u saw the game u would have sen kobe take jumpers and go to the rack….picking ur spots…being smart…learning the game so u dont habeas to take punishment every game thats wat kobe has learned to do not him being smart just being wiser…big difference man dont confuse the 2

Three Stacks says:
Kobe is the best player on the planet, best skill set, talent, sure. Not many people argue that. But if you polled knowledgeable basketball people or NBA GMs on who’d they’d rather start an NBA franchise around (either Kobe or Lebron in their primes), I think a pretty big majority would say Lebron.
Alls I’m saying is, if Kobe and Lebron swapped teams right now, the Lakers would have a chance to win 75 games and become the best team ever assembled, while the Cavs would have trouble getting through Detroit and Boston.
I just wanna know if you, as a Laker fan, wouldn’t trade the two straight up? Really? All biases aside, wanting what’s best for the franchise?
October 29th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
Three Stacks says:
@ jayslay, so it was smart for Kobe not to attack the basket and try to get the line when the Celtics were coming back from 24 down in game 4?
I’m not talking about the regular season, but Kobe was being punked around in the Finals. That’s not hate, that’s real talk. The best player alive needs to take over that series, and he didn’t.
October 29th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
fallinup says:
Why is this even being argued? Kobe is the best right now. As athletic as Lebron is, he isn’t a proven winner yet. Bron is “Dominique amazing” right now. He’s spectacular, but aint won shit. And if he keeps clunking those freebies in the clutch, that’s all he’s ever gonna be.

hell yea u make that trade now…lebron is 7 years younger… but u cant do that u cant trade the two lebron is getting better no doubt but as far as kobe goes he still has the total package rite now
and be clear about this,if kobe was in the east on this cavs team please belive they would challenge boston and detriot…simply cuz the cavs….top play better defense and kobe could score more think about it
October 29th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
jayslay says:
u kno all summer all ppl are sayin is that kobe didnt take over the series…its pretty hard to do when the defense is geared to stop you and ur team doesnt show up till 5 min in the 4th quarter….kobe did his best,he stayed within the concept and they lost they got blown out but damn he’s one man that rite there shows he’s the best

did lamar or gasol show up in the finals???? cuz if they would have i promise u the lakers woulda won…..kobe does have a huge part in there wins and loses but its not all his fault…..and u really had the nerve to bring up VLAD????? are u smoking man????VLAD??? watch a lakers game then comment dude

Austin Burton says:
For what it’s worth, LeBron has exactly as many “on his own” Finals appearances as Kobe. (And I don’t think LeBron’s ever been knocked out in the first round in his career.)
October 29th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Three Stacks says:
I’m just sayin, I don’t feel the need to defend or make excuses for the Lakers at all. Is it so much of a surprise that the rest of the Lakers sucked in the Finals? None of them had been there before, except Kobe and Fish.
Yeah, the entire roster disappeared in the Finals, but Kobe can’t be shooting 6-19 with only 6 FT attempts when a team is coming back on you from 24 down on your home court.
At the beginning of last season, no Laker fan coulda hoped for a shot at the chip, so I’m happy with the Finals appearance. But real talk, they got punked. Denying it ain’t gonna help us win a chip this year. If we get back to the Finals and Kobe plays as complacent as he did last yr, we’re losing again.

Phil got outcoached…. lamar disappeared…. kobe was tryin to help all those guys get into a groove… they dropped the ball is that kobe’s fault????? i mean be honest if kobe woulda been lets say 15 for 30 would u be sayin he tried or he didnt make enough shots???? he tried…. flat out the celtics were a better team than the lakers….they werent supposed to be there and they did….great…..but u cant deny they didnt shoq up in the finals and thats not how they played all postseason….if ur arguement was on point that its kobe’s fault then what about the second round most of this team has never been there….what about the WCF??? besides kobe and fish none of them had been there either…..give credit to the celtics they were better..they didnt wilt under the pressure they played like they had been there….and they wanted it more…thats not kobe’s fault

this years cavs….top team is waaaaay better and we’ll see if they go back to the finals….i dont think they will but we will see….honestly lebron wont get any better until he takes a year off and works on his weaknesses….
and they wouldn’t lose to UNC..lol

Austin Burton says:
LeBron’s 2007 Finals team was depending a lot on a 2nd-round drafted rookie (Gibson) who didn’t even crack the regular rotation until late in the season. I’d say that team was pretty thin.
October 30th, 2008 at 1:30 am
jayslay says:
that team had larry hughes and drew gooden both are better than smush parker and kwame brown and gibson is pretty good who can shoot the lights out and who did they play??? the wizards??? the nets???the pistons who are quite frankly overrated…..all in all that team didnt have a suns team with the MVP or a player of amare’s caliber they played scrub teams in the east
also remeber this gibson only played cuz hughes got injured….but overall he’s still better than smush parker and a young farmar
