Does your fantasy team need help? Ask the Doc.

Nate RobinsonIs Nate the Knicks’ Barbosa?

With the NBA season a little more than 24 hours from kicking off, most of you should have had your fantasy drafts by now. So here’s the deal – in the comments section, drop me your roster and what type of league you play in (rotisserie, head to head, normal categories, keepers etc.). I’ll break down your team, tell you how you did in the draft, what categories you’re missing, and offer some suggestions of where to find those categories. Bring it on.

Ok, here’s my squad. head to head 14 team league. drafted 4th. Feeling light on dimes and 3s, what’s your take?

    BN Ronnie Brewer

  2. Doc says:

    You’re right

  3. The Fantasy Doctor says:

Yeah but it’s a 14 team league and I think you’ll be okay with assists as long as Ford stays healthy. Mayo was a good selection for your team. He’ll give you threes and assists. I also like the bench which is very impressive for the 14 team squad. Nice work. No moves to make right now.

  4. FedEx says:

12 team rotisserie league, normal scoring, no keepers.

    PG Andre Miller
    SG Dwyane Wade
    SF Caron Butler
    PF David West
    C Tyson Chandler
    G Tony Parker
    F Marvin Williams
    UTIL Ronnie Brewer
    UTIL Raja Bell
    UTIL Rodney Stuckey
    BENCH Joakim Noah
    BENCH Boris Diaw
    BENCH Stephon Marbury

    Appreciate the help, Doc.

  5. Knicksfan says:

I’m playing in a 12 team, 9-cat Yahoo roto league. My team:
    Guards:
Jason Kidd, Devin Harris, Rafer Alston
Jason Richardson, Stephen Jackson, Rudy Fernandez
    Forwards:
Kevin Garnett, Josh Smith, Zach Randolph, Matt Barnes, Thaddeus Young, Udonis Haslem
    Centers:
Andrew Bogut (hoping Z-Bo and Udonis get C-eligibility soon)

I think I’ve got most cats covered pretty well, but might need to pick up someone to help with FT%. What do you think?

    Thanks for the advice

  6. Quedas says:

    Dwight Howard (C)
    Deron Williams (PG)
    Chris Bosh (PF)
    Caron Butler (SF)
    Danny Granger (SG/SF/PF)
    Kevin Martin (SG)
    Gerald Wallace (SF/PF)
    Andre Miller (PG)
    Al Horford (C)
    Josh Howard (SG/SF)
    Andrew Bogut (C)
    Raymond Felton (PG/SG)
    Zach Randolph (PF/C)
    Jameer Nelson (PG)
    Kevin Love (PF)

(note: My league has 8 teams and we don’t count percentages, just points, rebounds, assists, etc…) (also, the list comes in order of picks)

  7. The Fantasy Doctor says:

A lot of nice names, but also a lot of missing categories. You’re in major trouble in three’s. They really don’t exist on your squad with the exception of Raja Bell (who is a fringe starter). Wade and Butler will give you a little but you need help there badly. Blocks is also a legit issue. Chandler is a nice name but doesn’t block shots like you’d like him to. Williams and West don’t block shots either. You probably should start Noah over Brewer just for the blocks aspect. You’re strengths are probably the percentages and steals. You also lack depth as Diaw and Steph aren’t going to answer any of your problems if and when you run into them. Not going to lie, the team is in a little bit of trouble.

  8. G-United says:

    Hey Doc.

Here’s my team. I drafted first, normal scoring. There’s only 7 teams in my league.

    Chris Paul
    Iguodala
    Kidd
    Butler
    Bosh
    Al Jefferson
    Tyson Chandler
    Okafor
    Rudy Gay
    Andre Miller
    Rodney Stuckey
    Tony Parker
Kirilenko (i’m thinking about replacing AK47 for Ricky Davis)

  9. The Fantasy Doctor says:

that last recap was for Fed Ex. I’ll use names from now on.

  10. Rob says:

    Whats up Doc,

All things considered I should clean house, but I would not mind some advice with regard to my Gil and Manu situation, I also might be a little weak on dimes and 3s if the Jose trade does not go down,

    12 team, Roto:

    - Andre Miller
    - Kevin Durant (waiting on trade for Jose Calderon)
    - Stephen Jackson
    - Lebron James
    - Antawn Jamison
    - Richard Jefferson
    - Dwight Howard
    - Boris Diaw
    - Rajon Rondo
    - Manu Ginobili
    - Gilbert Arenas
    - Rudy Fernandez
    - Andrea Bargnani

    Peace

    R1

  11. Xavier Garcia says:

    Sure thing! Thanks!

H2H Each Category, 14 teams, drafted 4th. Taking a definite gamble with Darko, so I feel like I dont have a true Center.

    PG Chauncey Billups
    SG Richard Hamilton
    SF Paul Pierce
    PF Amare
    C Darko
    G Rudy Rernandez
    F Aldridge
    PF\CF David Lee
    UTIL Mike Conley
    UTIL Kendrick Perkins

    BENCH Arenas
    BENCH Jeff Green
    BENCH Varejao
    BENCH Ramon Sessions
    BENCH Eric Gordon

  12. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Knicksfan,

Nice work. the assists, points, blocks, boards are all there. Both percentage categories are a bit of a question mark. You have solid fg percentage guys and bad fg percentage guys (Kidd, Rafer, Steph. Jackson, Zach is eh, etc.). Overall, nice job. Maybe grab one more three point shooter at some point (J-Rich won’t do what he did last year under LB).

  13. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Quedas,

8 teams? Wow. The team looks good, though with only 8 squads, everyone’s looks good. Dwight gets a HUGE boost without having to concern yourself with free thrown. I know you have Howard, but you could probably use one more shot blocker and you definitely need one more three point shooer.

  14. bamba says:

Whoa first of all thanks for the invitation for advice!

    12 team, Yahoo 9-Cat league, 4th pick H2H

    1. D. Wade
    2. C. Bosh
    3. J. Johnson
    4. C. Billups
    5. A. Bogut
    6. J Crawford
    7. M. Beasley
    8. N. Collison
    9. T Prince
    10. T. Murphy
    11. J. Green
    12. J. Boone
    13. C. Duhon

I kind of followed Matthew Berry’s ESPN strategy on picking players who produce like point guards and power forwards since almost every player is guaranteed to have a decent line of points and rebounds

  15. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    G-United,

First off, don’t cut AK for Ricky Davis. Drop that thought right now. You’re going to win assists with CP and Kidd. That’s always nice. Blocks (you need AK for this) and boards you should be good on as well. By far your biggest hole is three’s. With a 7 player league you should be able to find a high 100′s three a year guy… maybe two of them. Hard thing to find on the waiver wire. sort it by category and see who is there.

  16. star_bury says:

I’m in a 13-man, 12-team league. How many rookies should be drafted in the top 150-ish?

  17. Just a Fan says:

Hi Doc, my team is in a 12-man non-keeper h2h with 9 categories.

I have no idea what I was doing mid-way and just grabbed the best player I thought was available at the time. My players are.

    Kobe
    Josh Smith
    Rudy Gay
    Hedo
    Aldridge
    Harrington
    Felton
    Randy Foye
    Gilbert Arenas
    Marbury
    Darko
    Blatche
    Al Thorton
    Andrea Bargnani

What do I need Doc? It seems like my team can’t rebound at all.

  18. Charlie says:

    What up Doc,

I’m in a 16 team, 9cat, head to head espn keeper league. I drafted 11th out of 16 and here’s my lineup. I think it’s pretty solid but any input would be helpful.

    PG Devin Harris
    SG Joe Johnson
    SF Ron Artest
    PF Elton Brand
    C Zach Randolph
    G JR Smith
    F David Lee
    Util Mike Conley
    BN Rodney Stuckey
    BN Matt Barnes
    BN Shaq

  19. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Rob,

Taking both Arenas and Manu is going to make it hard. One of them makes it hard. If it’s head to head, then you hope to be in the middle of the pack when you get them back. If it’s roto… you’re in trouble. that’s hard to catch up on. The drafts okay other than that. It’s a middle of the pack squad, but there a lot of safe nice picks in there.

  20. Quedas says:

I should my team plays with total points in the non-percentage categories – not by winning each categorie

12 team roto, standard scoring. Tyrus Thomas and Marc Gasol are both available in my league. Are they worth it and would they really help?

  23. QuEsT??? says:

    its H2H

  24. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Xavier Garcia,

Amare doesn’t qualify as a center in your league? Definitely start Jeff Green over Perkins. Perk isn’t going to do much for you. You know I’m a Darko guy but it’s wait and see. If he gets 25 minutes a game he blocks 2 shots, grabs 6 boards and scores 7/8 points. That’s third center numbers but not awful. the 14 team league makes it hard to have a good bench but you have a lot of reaches in there and need one of them (Gordon or Sessions) to do something for you. Varejao won’t be that guy unless there are injuries. Other concerns – the 3′s. Pierce and Chauncey need to do it all for you. that should win you a couple weeks, but most you’ll be in trouble. 14 teams are very tough. You’re probably in the upper half, but are going to need to make a move at some point for a big man and threes and have to hope that the bench comes through.

  25. James says:

Ok- i play in a head to head league- i missed the live draft b/c my CPU was not working- when i got on- this is the squad i got
    PG- Devin Harris

    F- Stephen Jackson
    PF- Rudy Gay
    C- Joakim Noah
    C- Chris Kaman
    UTL- Marvin Williams
    Jeff Green
    Bench- Randy Foye
Boris Diaw, I dropped Michael Pietrus and picked up Rudy Fernadez
What do you think- i tried to trade Marvin too

  26. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    bamba,

the point guard/pf thing is 100% real. Biggest concern with your team – blocks. Bosh hasn’t really blocked shots like you’d think he would (nice preseason though). Bogut was better but still under 2 per game. I like Collison but he has never been a consistent performer. Same with Prince. You need Crawford to get out of this funk now because you need his three’s badly. If you get them, you’re good there. If you don’t, get looking. I like the Duhon pick up. you should play him. he’ll help with the assist category, which you need. For a guy who was going to draft point guards, you didn’t really draft point guards! You’re going to win some and lose some weeks and really don’t have any sure winning week to week categories with the possible exception of fg%.

    Thanks Doc, you’re the best.

  35. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Just a Fan,

The rebounding isn’t awful. Josh Smith, Aldridge, Al, Thorton, and Rudy Gay and Turk help a bit. Could you use another guy? Definitely. Haslem out there? You’re thin at center. You have to hoop that Bargnani (if he qualifies), Blatche, or Darko step up. Big if’s. I like Bargnani though. Also, why do you hate assists so much?

  36. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Charlie,

16 teams is too many but you did a nice job. You NEED Elton to block shots. Good work though.

  37. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    QuEsT???,

You’re right on the assists front though AI and Joe Johnson will help. You have to hope Foye is an asset. I’m a doubter. Jamario Moon is probably going to be the guy to cut but wait it out a minute. If Duhon is out there he’d be a good pick up for the squad.

  38. aj says:

Doc – This is YOUR team, based on YOUR rankings, and a live draft taking YOUR highest ranked player. Only 9 managers.

    Calderon
    Durant
    Devin Harris

    Duncan
    Gay
    Ming
    Chandler
    AK-47
    Rondo
    Marvin Williams – Bench
    Al Thorton – Bench
Brook Lopez – Bench (not your pick there, I just took a flyer)

Pretty solid team to me. Thanks for the rankings.

  39. Xavier Garcia says:

Thanks a lot Doc, Ill start looking up some trades, and yeah Amare does qualify as a Center in my league but other than him I didnt think I had much else going for me in that regard.

    Thanks again!

  40. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    James says:

Autodraft didn’t do an awful job. You need another point guard for assists and a legit second center in place of Noah who is better suited as a third center. Not bad though.

  41. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    izzy,

Not bad. You need a second assist source for that util spot to really get in the top of that category (Deron and Roy should equal middle of pack). You need a second center as well. I hate to say it but Rasho and Petro should be on your radar.

I’ve preached this on a few posts but assists is your draw back. Harris won’t be enough. Duhon out there? solid team. Nice work with Okur. You need his 3′s.

  45. Youngwood says:

Its a head to head league btw

  46. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Chuck,

Sounds like a good league. Nice squad but you have to hope Ty Thomas gets 25 to 30 a night because you need blocks. Other than that, you look to be in good shape.

  50. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Dokim Noah,

Looks very good.I’m not a Gordon or Charlie V. believer. Especially in head to head. Both guys have the propensity to light it up and then disappear. The categories are there though. Nice Mo Williams pick up. Solid at center with a strong back up. Good depth. Nice work.

  51. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    aj says:

I like the team a lot and I actually really like the Brook Lopez pick up. Obviously a whole lot of your season depends on if Yao Ming can stay healthy. He’s a game changer for you.

  53. loganlight says:

    Doc,
Yeah, assists would be nice. I had it in mind to secure some 3s and Okur fell to me. I checked the waiver and looks like the highest ranked PG available is Earl Watson… Here is what is available to me:

    Daniel Gibson
    Delonte West
    Antonio Daniels
    Derek Fisher
    Jerad Bayless

Earl had 531 assists last year, but I think his playing time is pretty sketchy. What do you think?

    LL

  54. The Fantasy Doctor says:

Out of that crew – Daniels.

  55. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Young ‘money,

You need another assist and block source. You’re only in 3′s because of Korver and that’s asking a lot of a guy who may or may not get minutes. I’m not an Amir Johnson fantasy fan (though I think he can play). The position is too crowded.

  56. Just a Fan says:

    hey Doc,

I don’t hate assist that much, but all the Pgs disappeared quick. Only JKidd was available when I had my 3rd pick and I took Rudy Gay over Kidd. Bargnani/Darko/Harrington are my centers. It’s thin, I have to find another C and another source of assist somewhere.

  57. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Youngwood,

3s’, assists, and blocks. Those are you’re missing categories. One point guard isn’t going to win you weeks. with a pretty small starting lineup, two probably will. Rose might have to run for you. Same for blocks. Just Jefferson won’t do it. You’re in great shape in points, boards, and percentages.

  58. SK says:

    Hey Doc,

This is what I have in my 12 team league. I feel like I need more assists and I’m not sure what I should do with Stuckey

PG Tony Parker (SA – PG)

G Mo Williams (Cle – PG)
SF Corey Maggette (GS – SG,SF)
PF Amare Stoudemire (Pho – PF,C)

    C Tim Duncan (SA – PF,C)
    C Boris Diaw (Pho – PF,C)
Util Rajon Rondo (Bos – PG) INJ
Util John Salmons (Sac – SG,SF)
BN Rodney Stuckey (Det – PG,SG)
BN Kendrick Perkins (Bos – C)
BN Rafer Alston (Hou – PG)

  59. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    monch,

16 teams is tough and I like what you did at the end. Anthony Parker probably isn’t in most 12 team leagues but in a 16 team league, he has nice value. You have the “I hate assists” disease though. My guess is they don’t exist on the waiver wire (flyer on Sessions? Luke?).

  60. Dman says:

Here’s my team. I play H2H, standard 8 cat league. There are 12 teams in the league. Positions are PG,SG,G,SF,PF,F,C,C,Util,Util, and 4 bench spots.

    Deron Williams
    Joe Johnson
    Andre Miller
    Antawn jamison
    Chris Bosh
    Al Harrington
    Andrew Bogut
    Joakim Noah
    Richard Hamilton
    Marvin Williams
    Andray Blatche
    Russel Westbrook
    Jordan Farmar
    Nick Young

i feel like my blocks/reb will be lacking. My team doest look like a high scoring team either.

  61. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Mike,

First off, you 100% got me on the first roster. I was about to call you all sorts of names. In all seriousness – I like the team. A lot. It’s got a chance. The bench is thin and you may need a little help with assists.

  62. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    NT,

Nice team but again, two injured players unless you have a very deep bench is tough. Yes, you need assists and the Tinsley hope is intriguing but isn’t helping you at all for a while and is also your third bench player that doesn’t play basketball right now. that’s going to make it very hard.

  63. monch says:

    Hi Doc,

Unfortunately, the assist guys were too high on my draft board when I got in (drafted 11 grrr). And were gone by the tail end. And no, Sessions and Luke are not free agents. Still looking on waivers.

    Monch

  64. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    SK,

You’re good with assists with Parker, Mo, Rondo, and Rafer. Diaw and Perkins aren’t going to cut it at that center spot. if you can move Amare there and sign a pf. If not, Petro and Rasho should be on the radar.

  65. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Dman,

With 12 teams, the end of the roster should be better. Nick Young and Farmar should’t be on the roster. There have to better options on the waiver wire. The teams not bad though.

  66. tp says:

    rose
    dwade

    chris andersen
    scola

drafted 6th. currently dropping louis for nate rob.. i need 3′s and steals bad.. 12 team head to head.. what u guys think?

  67. The Fantasy Doctor says:

Not bad and you’re 100% right about 3′s. Spencer Hawes is a nice week 1 option but probably waiver wire material. You’ll need a second block source at some point… BIRD MAN!

  68. Willis says:

    Fantasy Doc:

    12 team H2H, normal stats
    Baron Davis
    Brandon Roy
    John Salmons

    Raja Bell
    David Lee
    Dwight Howard
    Greg Oden
    Rodney Stuckey
    Ramon Sessions
    Andrea Bargnani
    Eric Gordon

I would say my weakest category is assists, but I have a number of decent point guards. I should win rebounding and 3s every week. Also, should I drop Sessions in favor of Marcus Williams or Daniel Gibson? I had Marcus to begin with, but Nellie sais he is at the bottom of the chart.

    Willis,

I’m a Salmons hater. I just don’t think a winning NBA team can have Salmons putting up those stats. That being said, you blocks and boards on lock, are good with 3′s. You’re right about the weakest categories, but wait it out a minute. Don’t pick up Gibson or Williams.

  77. CitizenB says:

  96. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    webbie352,

You know I hate Salmons, but overall a very well balanced team. 3′s are your only concern.

  97. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Stephen,

Assists, assists, assists. Everything else looks okay. For now, I’d play Hinrich in the util spot over Moon.

  98. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    CitizenB,

I’d take Nene over Pietrus. Short roster though and you are in good shape at center. Still, with 10 teams, there should be other guys like Pietrus out there and Nene is a solid roster piece (even if you later look to deal a center).

  99. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Ace Hunter,

Strange league. You’re not drafting for categories, just straight production. Looks very good. Bynum might be a bit of a question mark with those stipulations.

  100. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Milo,

I missed you? My bad. Marc Gasol will definitely help. you clearly need blocks. You can say peace to Bobby Simmons. Ty Thomas needs the minutes. That’s a question mark but a good risk. Nice squad.

  101. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    MarkyMark,

If you’re telling me this is a 19 team league, then you did very very very well.

  102. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Sal,

Don’t drop Manu or Ellis. You made the bed…

We had the draft 2 weeks ago when the outlook on Camby was a little more optimistic…now I’m debating whether or not I should just punt the blocks category and try to trade for a center-elligible player with better FT%…maybe Okur.

  104. Vago says:

What do you think Doc!!? Thanks ofr your help!!

  105. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Fred,

16 teams are a ton and I’m sure that’s why Millsap is on the squad, same with Turiaf. I’m sure the waiver wire is very thin. Pretty solid squad.

  106. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Joe,

Tough. I wouldn’t worry about assists so much with your team. I’d prefer Barnes over Green… though I could be wrong about it. I’d go Barnes.

  107. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Hoveys Home,

8 teams and as much as I like Bass as a player, there should be someone else out there. Big thing you need is a PG. Rid? Duhon?

  108. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    CAN,

Here’s your problem. Somehow you need Gooden out of the starting lineup and Oden in. My guess is that neither Kaman or Howard qualifies. That’s a drafting mistake. Shouldn’t end up with Gooden at a forward spot. Other than that, nice work.

  109. Joe says:

    Doc,

    I’m in a 8 Category 12 team roto league.

Roster: Duncan, Bogut, R. Wallace, Gay, Z. Randolph, J. Green, K. Bryant, S. Jackson, Mo Williams, R. Rondo, & R Alston.

I think I’m going to need Asts and FG% and thinking about dropping Jeff Green for one of the below free agents.

Matt Barnes, Rodney Stuckey, Luke Ridnour, Nate Robinson or Michael Pietrus.

    Should I make a move?

    Thanks!

  110. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    dueces,

Not bad. Bibby is a wild card. He looked old last year and kind of awful. You could use another legit PG. Monta will help when he gets back.

  111. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    boogey banger,

I never recommend preseason trades. See how it plays out a bit. I wouldn’t say you’re money on threes. That’s too much stock in a healthy T-Mac. I like the team though. One more assist guy and one more shot blocker. But you have nice pieces.

  112. BEdger says:

OK doc, here’s my team, head 2 head league, 10 team leage where I drafted last. We coun’t pts, rebs, blks, asts, stls, FG%, FT%, 3pts…..TO’s aren’t factored in

  113. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    veen,

Hold onto Arenas. You have a very nice squad. Well balanced. Ricky Davis may become expendable. Watch his stats and minutes carefully for the first couple of weeks. I probably wouldn’t drop anyone right now.Nice work Rook.

  114. sans says:

    Okay Doc,

got Manu and Gil stashed, but I got them super late.

    Steve Blake
    Dre Miller
    Kevin Martin
    Louis Williams
    Mike Beasely
    Peja
    Josh Smith
    Zach Randolph
    Amare
Thad Young—currently in my GFC utility spot
and for my one actual bench spot…Andrea Bargnani

It’s H2H, but I know stashing both Manu and Gil is gonna be tough. I think I can win 3s, put points on the board, crash the boards, finish decently in assists, and steals, but JSmoove is my only legit shot blocker…am I missing anything? Do you think Bayless is gonna get anytime? or that Ridnour may outperform Blake?

  115. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    MSkittle,

with a 12 team league there is no way Delonte should be your starting point guard (and Rid be your other guy). something went wrong there. You need assists, blocks, and possibly 3′s depending on Crawford. Your bench isn’t very deep. You have some work ahead of you.

  116. JP says:

    Hey Doc,

Mine is a 16 team league with 10 players each.
Normal stat categories, these are the positions: 1 PG, 1 SG, 1 G, 1 SF, 1 PF, 1 CNT, 1 UTL, and 2 Bench.

    Shaun Livingston
    Vince Carter
    T-Mac
    Gerald Wallace
    KG
    Yao Ming
    Andrea Bargnani
    Ricky Davis
    Stephon Marbury
    JR Smith.

I know my PG are sketchy, but I’m not sure what to do in a league with only 10 players per team.
    Any ideas?

  117. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Sach,

No bench? How many teams? You need assists, blocks, and boards in a bad way.

  118. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    sit_yo_ass_down_mama,

You said it. You need three’s. For the start of the year, you’re hoping Nate goes bananas (which is possible) and Iggy shoots more 3′s as the SG. Other than that, good team.

  119. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    mules,

Easy. Camby is on your bench this week but you’re head to head and that’s just one week. you have Smith and Camby. You’ll be fine in blocks. Your squad is good. Let it play out a few weeks.

    Amir Johnson

  121. nick says:

forgot to add its a head to head league.

  122. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Vago,

Not bad. You need to try and find an upgrade for Murphy and hope that player blocks shots. If you get a decent shot blocker there, you’re squad looks very good.

  123. Sach says:

    It’s a 8 team league Doc!!!

  124. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    BEdger,

You need another assist source. I’m not a JR Smith fan but others are. If it’s roto, he helps with 150 3′s. You need dimes though. Other than that, good team.

  125. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    sans,

The Portland pg spot is too crowded. you can cut Blake. he’ll be there if you need him. I’d rather Ridnour for now.

  126. The Fantasy Doctor says:

sach, with only 8 teams there should be some good free agent options. Gomes is cutable for you.

  127. swanger says:

    I’m in a H2H league with 10 teams. I drafted last.

    BENCH – Deron Williams*
    BENCH – Anthony Parker
    BENCH – Linus Kleiza

    BENCH – Paul Millsap

  128. The Fantasy Doctor says:

I hear you with the 16 teams and 10 players but how you ended up with Livington and Steph as your pg options is beyond me. Everything else looks great. You need a reach. Blake? You need assists.

  129. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    nick,

It’s a good team. Stay pat for a few weeks and see how you do on threes. You may need them depending on Baron.

    swanger,

In a 10 team league, Klieza, Millsap, and maybe even Parker (though I like him) shouldn’t be on rosters. Hit the waiver wire.

  132. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    C.Marcelo,

  137. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    flowmotion,

Nice work. Only one true PG but I think you’ll be alright with both AI and Wade. You need one more source of blocks but that’s obviously tough to find (Petro/Rasho). Solid squad. 3′s are a little bit of a concern. If it was roto, Ben Gordon would help you much more. Keep an eye on it.

  138. The Fantasy Doctor says:

Wow. A Luke Walton sighting. At the end of the day it’s about players. Do you believe in the last 5 players on your list?

  147. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    DETROIT KEVIN,

Nice work. It’s tough with a 14 team league. You’re inevitably going to end up starting a Scola, Green and Gooden. I’d start Marvin Williams over Gooden (though I haven’t looked at the game count). Your weekest category is blocks. You need Kaman to be last year Kaman and for Bosh to be preseason Bosh. All possible though.

  148. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    sweetv0mit,

You get Amare and Chauncey and trade Duncan and Ben Gordon? NO BRAINER. DO IT NOW. Nice draft. you need assists but Chauncey will help. Get that deal done.

  149. Brandon says:

    Hey Doc.

We have a highly competitive 10 team league and went really deep into the draft this years: 20 players. PG, SG, SF, PF, F, C, C, Util, Util, Util and 10 Bench. With categories: FG%, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, OREB, DREB, AST, ST, BLK, TO.

Here’s my team, I drafted 4th, 18th, and 23rd to kick it off. Could you please tell me know if you notice any weaknesses. Brandon Bass is on the waivers still and I have my eye on him. (as the waiver wire is obviously thing)

    PG: Jose Calderon
    SG: Kobe Bryant
    SF: Gerald Wallace
    PF: Al Horford
    F: Al Thornton
    C: Al Jefferson
    C: Samuel Dalembert
    Util: Brandon Roy
    Util: Tracy Mcgrady
    Util: Randy Foye

    Bench:

    C: Shaq
    PG/SG: Rodney Stuckey
    PF/C: Chris Wilcox
    PF/C: Boris Diaw
    SG/SF: Jason Kapono
    PF/C: Darko Milicic
    SF/PF: Tyrus Thomas
    PG/SG: Nate Robinson
    SG: Deshawn Stevenson
    PG: Stephon Marbury

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  150. Brandon says:

    I meant “waiver is THIN”…not thing.haha

  151. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    askkk ’bout it says,

Monta shouldn’t be on waivers. It’s tough to have both hurt guys and you have nobody to cut but that’s kind of crazy.

Nice draft. I hope Yao stays healthy. Right now there is nobody you can cut so stick it out and hope for healthy season.

  152. vslim08 says:

who would you suggest i drop for monta, if anyone?

    thanks doc

    BN-Russel Westbrook

Let me know any advice you have for a beginner!
    Thanks

  155. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Steven,

Good team. You’re right that you need assists, BUT what you really need is points. You have a lot of guys that do good things but other than Dirk, no big time scorer.

  156. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    kdog,

Go get Thad Young. Sessions may have value at some point, but it certainly is not right now.

  157. The Fantasy Doctor says:

Nicely done. You may be a little short on three’s some weeks but everywhere else, you’re great. You’re in it to win it.

  158. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Brandon,

Sounds like a great league. With a deep bench, I’d probably prefer to stash Bass more than Kapono. One injury and Bass is a nice 3rd or 4th forward. We all know who Kapono is… including the Raptors. Nice work though. Great depth and you should be in every category with the exception being three’s where you may get smoked.

  159. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    vslim08,

    You really can’t drop anyone!

  160. Celtics 18 says:

  161. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    G says,

Interesting team. You don’t have any big time stars and probably lacking a bit in the points and blocks categories. One more three point shooter couldn’t hurt either. That being said, you’ll compete.

  162. JP says:

what do you think of Mike conley?

  163. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Trisha,

First off either cut Chris Douglas Roberts or switch him with Rudy Fernadez. I like CDR but don’t think he’ll have immediate value. Maybe down the line this season. If you want him though, he’ll be available on waivers.Posey isn’t an ideal starter either. You’re good on boards and threes and okay on assists. Someone has to be out there instead of Roberts. Who’s on the waiver wire?

  164. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Celtics 18,

For a 14 team league, your squad looks very good and well balanced. The bench is paper thin but that’s to be expected. You need a second assist guy. That isn’t going to be Nate if that’s what you are thinking.

  165. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    JP,

I like him. He’s a year or two away and that team has a crowded back court but I think he’s a legit back up fantasy point guard.

  166. G says:

Thanks for the feedback. Drafting 9th, I had Bargnani locked as one of my final picks (Barnes, Bargnani, Stuckey) but he was snaked from me by the 10th manager who picked up Bargs in the bounce between my picks. Do you see a similarly talented player (Raptors homer here) or should I let the first couple of weeks play out (watching Darko, Ty Thomas and players of that ilk) in the hope that Bargs comes out lacklustre and that manager drops him outright?

  167. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    G,

I like Bargnani but not THAT much. He’s not a game changer.

I picked last in a 12-team, roto, keeper league. Here are my picks by round. I honestly don’t know what I was thinking picking this way, but just a side note, I had a chance to grab the Matrix in the 1st but didn’t. I felt like this is Granger’s breakout year and Al Jeff’s 20-10 + blocks is too good to pass up.

    Danny Granger
    Al Jefferson

    Appreciate the help, Doc.

  184. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    ballin,

I like the squad but would like it better with one more point guard and one more three point threat (for when Mike Miller is hurt).

  185. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Hamond,

So you went Wade with the 5th pick? You need blocks and threes. Blocks really don’t exist on the squad with the exception of Bosh, who isn’t a protypical shot blocker. With the exception of Joe Johnson, your team really doesn’t hit threes.

  186. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    sans,

    Nobody for you to cut!

  187. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    tim,

Good squad. You need a healthy JO for blocks and you’re a tad short on threes but as of day 1, you’re in solid shape.

  188. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    SciOut,

Autodraft did okay for yo. Swap Moon for Thorton and Duhon for Bell (you need his assists for than you need threes.).

  189. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Collaboro,

Probably Delonte West who should start at the 2 for Cleveland. don’t lose long term hope for Sessions. Keep an eye out

  190. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Antouan,

There is a lot out on the free agent list but still, you probably play in a 8 to 10 team league and you have nobody to cut.

  191. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    XK,

Even with faith in Rose and nice assist numbers from AI, you do need another guy. The team is good though.

  192. The Fantasy Doctor says:

C-Hova, cut Mccants and grab Arenas.

  193. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Marcello,

With 10 teams, you have some guys that probably shouldn’t be rosters. Mobley, Pietrus, and even Moon are all fringe roster guys. There should be some better options on waivers. I wouldn’t rush to cut Pietrus but I’d be curious to see who was available.

  194. The Fantasy Doctor says:

Mickey, I wouldn’t have rushed to cut Conley. You need assists. I know you have Harris and Udrih but neither are huge dime guys. the team is pretty solid.

  195. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    craig,

First of all, I’m all for the gut feeling with the Matrix. I’m cool with it. I hear you about the scoring threat. After JRich, you don’t have much scoring. You have decent intangibles though so let’s see what happens the first few weeks before you look to make a trade.

  196. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Zen,

20 teams! I don’t love either round 3 or 4 and with such a huge league, those rounds could hurt you. You may be the only owner in the world with the all of (or any of with the exception Bass) those players on your roster.

  197. Trisha says:

    Hey Doc,

Thank you for the advice. I took out Posey and Roberts. I’m thinking of putting in Peja Stojakovic or Danny Granger in at small forward. what do you think?

  198. Hi, Jurg from Denmark says:

Yes it is Jurgy from Denmark.

I did a draft on weekend when i was visiting Romania and got trade offer already!! Yes. Hi. Please help me to trade my Ming Yao for Mr Rashard Lewis. My team has 14 players and another 11 competitors. Here is team. What is up?

Thanks for the analysis doc. Based on the players left in my league, I don’t think I can focus on points this year. I just have a couple of questions..I’m thinking of dropping sessions for one of these guys: starbury, dj augustin, birdman anderson, battier, mccants, or posey.

    a) which one should i get?
    b) should I even drop sessions in the first place? i’m really hoping his ast numbers go crazy but I’m afraid he’s not gonna get enough burn.

    Trish,

You need both of them in your starting lineup! Definitely Granger, but both!

  207. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Jurg,

Don’t make that deal. You want Yao over Rashard. You need to find more assists at some point (no offense to Beno or Conley who are nice supplements). One more guy would help. That being said, the team looks good.

  208. JoJo Down Under says:

    hey dime fantasy doc

my roto roster in an 11-team league – 9 cats: FG%, FT%, 3PM, PTS, RBS, AST, STL, BLK and TO.

    PG Jason Kidd
    SG Andre Iguodala

    SF Caron Butler
    PF Kevin Garnett
F Francisco Garcia (bummed he’s out, luv his game)

    Util Kenyon Martin
    Bench Jameer Nelson
    Bench Pietrus
    Bench McCants

  209. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Alex,

Looks like you had a great draft. I’d probably play Barnes over Nate Rob for week one if you can still change it, but you’re team looks rearing to go. You don’t need help… at least right now.

  210. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    craig,

I think Sessions is going to have to earn the burn and that might not happen for a bit. It will happen at some point this season. I think it’s cool to cut him but definitely make sure he’s on your radar. We’ll talk a lot about him on the daily fantasy. Of those guys… Funny thing is, it’s probably Steph that you want to pick up. After that Posey and after that Battier. Let’s see how Steph looks early on though, especially with Crawford struggling.

  211. Deez says:

I need rebounding badly. Should I trade Caron Butler for David West straight up?

  212. Jei says:

Hey Doc, i consider myself a noob when it comes to fantasy leagues. I joined a 16 team league: FG%, FT%, 3PM, PTS, RBS, AST, STL, BLK and TO

    Monta Ellis
    Loul Deng
    Manu Ginobili
    Caron Butler
    Chris Bosh
    Gerald Wallace
    Fabricio Oberto
    Rudy Fernandez
    Grant Hill
    Jeff Green
    Kyle Korver
    Daniel Gibson

I think I have a lame basketball squad. Any advice or comment would be appreciated. Thanks!

  213. The Fantasy Doctor says:

♦King Me♠, Wait and see how Collison plays before you rush out and cut him for Ellis. Your assist deprived. Just Devin Harris, Barbosa, and Wade won’t cut it. Still, you’re in good shape everywhere else.

  214. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Nimit,

I mean… Marc Gasol over Bynum? How can I write more? The rest of the squad looks good though.

  215. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Armchair Sportman,

In a 10 team league you shouldn’t have to settle on Perk to be your center. Most likely something went wrong at the draft but still there are better options out there on the waiver wire I’m sure. Even Garcia and Maxiell shouldn’t be owned in a 10 team league. Who’s on the waiver wire?

  216. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Jason,

For a 16 person league, I think you did alright. You’ve got everything with the exception of blocks and honestly, you may have to say peace to that category. You’re in great shape in assists, 3′s, and points and look solid in the percentages. You should win some and lose some in boards.

  217. Anthony says:

Tryin to win FG%, Points, Rebounds, Blocks consistently.

14 team, head to head, no keepers, normal stats

    PF Carlos Boozer
    F Marvin Williams
    C Dwight Howard
    C Al Horford
    Ut Rajon Rondo
    Ut Jameer Nelson
    BN Matt Barnes
    BN Rudy Fernandez
    BN Spencer Hawes

Pretty happy with my depth but worried about Jefferson in Milwaukee and am offering him up for Al Harrington at the minute, what do you think?

  219. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    JoJo Down Under,

Interestingly there has not been a lot of roto leagues that have submitted. You look pretty solid. I’d go Jameer over Moon. Moon isn’t going to help much and Kidd and Nelson should help you be near the top in assists. I’m not a big Garcia guy and would go Peitrus there or even a Marquis Daniels in week one.

  220. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Deez,

No. Caron does too many good things for you and probably will average close to 6 boards. Give it a few weeks and see how it goes.

  221. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Jei,

No idea what a noob is but I’m going to guess it isn’t good.

Having both Monta and Manu is going to sting. That’s tough. Oberto isn’t helping you anywhere unless you’re the first league in history that has a category for setting screens and/or picks. Grab someone like Marquis Daniels or even Antonio Daniels for Oberto. Might be a tough run. Try and stay afloat until Manu and Ellis get back. Good luck.

  222. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Anthony,

100% Howard should start over Stuckey in week one. We have no idea what we’re going to get out of Stuckey and there is a very good chance it will be inconsistent. You need scoring on this squad and Howard will help there. You’ve evidently sworn off assists.

  223. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    BENNYHILL,

Well done. Don’t make that trade. Stick with RJ for now.

I think I’m competitive in FG%, Blocks, Boards but punting assists. Shot I trade AI for a Granger type for 3′s or another big man. What do you think overall? Thanks.

  225. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    MB,

I’m assuming Udrich is Beno Udrih??? I can see the punting of assists. Might as well let Chalmers go then. Looks good.

  226. The Fantasy Doctor says:

ps. don’t make a preseason trade. see how it goes.

  227. Future Bulls GM says:

    Fantasy Doc,
First my disclaimer – This is a different league than most. 10 team weekly H-T-H league.
    Scoring is:
    Assists 1 point / Points 1 point / Rebounds 1 point
    Blocks 2 points / Steals 2 points
    Turnovers -2 points

Based on that scoring, how do you think my team will perform? Do you see any changes that should be considered?
    Start 3 guards, 3 forwards, 2 centers

Guards: Iverson / Vince Carter / Bibby
Forwards: Josh Howard / St. Jackson / RJefferson
    Centers: Dwight Howard / Biedrins
    Bench:
    Monta Ellis
    Rodney Stuckey
    Matt Barnes
    David Lee
    Jason Maxiell
    Darko Milicic

Should I move Josh Howard to guard and bench Bibby to allow Matt Barnes into the starting lineup? Any thoughts appreciated!

    Future Bulls GM,

With your league all you care about are positive stats. Positives for Bibby is that his fg% stinks but doesn’t mean anything and he’ll get you a steal game plus some decent scoring and assists. Obviously the negative is the turnovers. I’d probably stay with Bibby for a couple weeks and see how it goes.

  232. rudderband man says:

    Hey Doc,

    I posted my team yesterday:

Head to Head (Categories) league with 10 teams. I drafted 4th (I was shocked/excited to see LeBron at that spot too).

    PG – Jose Calderon

    BENCH – Manu Ginobili*
    BENCH – Brad Miller
    BENCH – Mickael Pietrus
    BENCH – Derrick Rose
    BENCH – Rudy Fernandez

But my question is, with Matt Barnes, Nene, Grant Hill, Marc Gasol, Jeff Green, and Hakim Warrick all on the waiver wire do you recommend making any moves or sticking with my guns and seeing how my team plays out the way it is.

  233. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Runner guy,

Overall nice work. You’re asking a lot of Rose for assists but you should be in a win some/lose some position with AI, Mayo, and Rose. I’d love to tell you that Livingston will help with the category but I think that is way down the road. Other than that, you could use another blocks guy. Overall, solid.

  234. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    Smitdog,

Great job with the entire starting squad. I really don’t see any glaring holes. That being said, you need some waiver wire pickups because the current bench probably won’t cut it. You’ll get em though.

  235. Smitdog says:

  236. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    s.bucketz,

With what’s out there, you need to ride it out with what you have and just pay attention to the waiver wire. Get Okur in your lineup and Diaw out!

  237. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    rudderband man,

It’s a toss up. I would probably prefer Nene or Barnes over Pietrus. Probably Marc Gasol as well. It’s a toss up though.

  238. Nimit says:

    Doc,

I didnt pick him over Bynum!!..i chose Bynum(who had fallen all the way to the sixth round!) but for some reason my draft window froze and when i get it back Marc Gasol has been selected for me and the dude right after me has taken Bynum…if Bynum ends up with a monster season i might just quit fantasy basketball.

  242. The Fantasy Doctor says:

  256. phanb says:

Ok… if opening night is any indication… I’m sitting pretty good, very very versatile lineup and only more dangerous if Arenas can come back to even 80% hahaha

  257. phanb says:

when Odom is your active player… you’re doing good I think

  258. Marino says:

Question for the doctor, here’s my team in a 10 team h2h league:

    Chris Paul
    Jason Richardson
    Lamar Odom
    Pau Gasol
    Mo Williams
    Samuel Dalembert
    Mike Miller
    Al Horford
    Chauncey Billups
    Danny Granger
    Greg Oden
    Tyrus Thomas
    Shawn Marion

I’m wondering about Lamar Odom if you think I should drop him and go with someone like Troy Murphy or Udonis Haslem who are both available. With him not starting it’s looking like his production is going to drop way off.

    Antonio McDyess
    Travis Outlaw

  262. Mike says:

In post #261 I forgot to ask the doc about my team and also do I need to get some more rebounding strength. I’m thinking McDyess may be expendable. I’m looking at Darrell Arthur for REB’s.

  263. Chris says:
