Gerald Wallace Trade Rumors
MJ is shopping GWThough Larry Brown successfully convinced Michael Jordan to hold onto Gerald Wallace this offseason, MJ hasn’t been able to resist shopping Crash around the League this preseason.
In some ways that makes sense. Wallace is the type of guy that absolutely every team in the NBA could use. Seriously, name one team that wouldn’t want him. You could stick him on a squad that is loaded up with two’s, three’s, and four’s, and he’d still be a valuable addition. Thus, Jordan could get some value in return – ideally some package of young talent and draft picks.
But without Wallace, what’s the vision for Charlotte’s long-term future? To build around Emeka Okafor and his six-year, $72 million deal? This team already has enough problems, it’s almost frightening to think what they would be like if they didn’t have Wallace.
Here are some possible destinations that might make sense for the Bobcats and another team:
* Detroit. Joe Dumars was explicitly clear about his intentions to make a move this offseason. But he wasn’t willing to pull the trigger on getting Tracy McGrady, probably because of the age/durability questions. Would he be willing to part with some combination of Rodney Stuckey, Kwame Brown’s expiring contract, and a 1st round pick to get Wallace? That could slide Tayshaun Prince into Michael Curry’s “sixth starter” role, too.
* Portland. The Blazers have gone back and forth like thirty times recently trying to figure out exactly who is starting at small forward for them. They’ve thrown Nicolas Batum’s name out there given Martell Webster’s foot injury, but would undoubtedly prefer to be a bit stronger at the three. Is Wallace worth sending Webster, Channing Frye and a 2nd round pick? It wouldn’t really affect Portland’s depth, as they still have Travis Outlaw coming off the bench.
* Phoenix. With Steve Kerr and Terry Porter drunk off of defense in Phoenix, the idea of adding Gerald Wallace would make their heads spin. Though they added Matt Barnes this offseason, he hasn’t convinced anyone that he’s a better option than a 48-year old Grant Hill. What about sending Leandro Barbosa, Alando Tucker and a pick to Charlotte for Wallace? The Suns’ would be a defensive nightmare with Shaq, Amare, Wallace, and Raja Bell.
* Miami. There is no quicker way to stop Shawn Marion from clamoring about a trade than threatening to send him to Charlotte.
What’s a good swap for Gerald Wallace?

Yo call me crazy but I would give up Shawn Marion for Wallace

nerditry says:
@Dee : Yes, you are crazy. Marion would necessitate getting Wallace and at least two players.
I think he’d be nice beside LeBron with them both playing the 2/3.

That would be amazing if the Blazer’s could drop Web, Bucky Beaver and a D-pick for Crash.
Bayless (Rodriguez)
Roy (Fernandez)
Crash (Outlaw)
Aldrge (Diogu
Oden (Przybilla)
Maybe not this year or the next but if you keep that group together for three years, I think you’re inevitably going to get a championship.

Bobcats need a leader on the floor that can pull the team together and stop the bleeding…I don’t know who they can get…Wallace is not going to get them that Superstar that could come in and make them a playoff lock. Their guys just have to play better together. Felton is a good solid PG. Jason Richardson has been giving his matchups the business for years. Wallace, when healthy, has done the same. Emeka will never live up to the Dwight comparisons, but if he gives you 15,12,and 2.5 blocks on a team with plenty slasher, shooters, and perimeter defenders…who cares about those comparisons.
They need health, conditioning, and chemistry…Coach Brown will do the things that will enable them to not hand games away like the much publicized Boston game last year…
That trade with Detroit would be worthwhile if Bobcats keep Felton, sent DJ Augustin/Wallace for Kwame/Stuckey. Would Jordan take another shot on Kwame?
I like the Bobcats team. They need to learn to play “the right way…
Crazy thought I had when Larry Brown signed…Iverson is in his last year. Denver is going nowhere…Bobcats lack closing guard, that puts pressure on opposing teams…They have defenders, shooters, dirty work guys…Bobcats seem like a younger, better version of the 2001 sixers squad in many respects…They have way more talent, but that talent has underachieved…I see Iverson, if he is about the same level as he was last year making that team Top 5, yes 5 This year in the East…

Zach says:
no way Dumars gives up Stuckey or a 1st round to bring in Wallace. Start the hatin now, but I will take Tayshaun over Wallace. Maybe ship Sheed’s expiring for Wallace and a protected pick.

YOUNGFED says:
Why do they call him Crash is it because he looks like Crash Bandigoat (lol). No but seriously Zach he’s better than Tayshaun. However you are right about Stuckey he is the future.

Scott says:
Wallace would be ideal for the Lakers. He gets his points without plays, he’s got the D. Crash at the 3, Kobe at the 2 and thats a sick matchup problem they have on both ends. Not that its gonna happen. But ya.

Big Shot BOB says:
Are you serious AK none of these trades gives Charlotte equal return. Wallace is a stat monster. The only one that made sense was The Matrix but they are basically the same player with the slight edge going to Marion. On any other squad Crash would be in the allstar game.
But I do like that L.O. trade though.
