LeBron and Jay-Z host rally for Barack Obama

LeBron JamesLBJ (photo. Nike)

There are certain accomplishments that make you qualified to influence other people’s lives. If you’re traveled to outer space, I’d like to hear what you have to say about life, politics, and any other subject for that matter. If you’ve been on Real World: Albuquerque, I’m not quite as interested in listening to you speak.

But I’d put athletes who win gold medals for our wonderful country right up there next to going to the moon. Thus, if I were in Cleveland this Wednesday, I’d love to go to the Quicken Loans Arena where LeBron James and Jay-Z are co-hosting a rally for Barack Obama.

LeBron tossed $20 K to Obama’s campaign a little while back, and is taking his influence to the next level by getting his boy Jay to perform at the Q this week. This goes to show that the LeBron/Jay partnership is good for much more than scaring the hell out of Danny Ferry and the Cavaliers brass. They’re using their ridiculous celebrity to promote a serious cause.

And then after the concert, these two icons are throwing an afterparty at The View Nightclub. Of course both of these guys will be there, but will Obama go?

  3. celtfan says:

    Well, I agree bout hearing Lebron share some thoughts… Not a fan of Obama… or Jay-Z for that matter, dude calls himself Jehova (J-Hova)… kinda creepy

  4. YOUNGFED says:

    @Celtsfan
    K-Hova, J-Hova, Hova-Hova. He’s just saying that he’s a God in the game. Don’t get all bent outta shape.

    @Dime
    Yall a lil late reporting this one homies, I would posted it days ago but it wasn’t really BREAKING NEWS material.

  5. dukesman2000 says:

    Michael Jordan, transcended sports but not in a respectable way; he did it sort of Uncle Tom-ish. I am not saying he should have been waving the “Black” flag every where he went, but he never once spoke out against issues affecting his race out of fear of losing sneakers sales.

    From speaking out agaisnt the human rights issues in China during the Olympics to this public endorsement of a presidential candidate who happens to be black, tells me LBJ is cut from a different cloth. Obviously LBJ refuses to follow the Jordan, Tiger Woods’ manual, but instead following the Martin Luther King’s philosophy of “I cannot be what I ought to be unless you are what you ought to be; that is the interrelated structure of reality of the Black race.” It doesn’t matter how much money you have, if your race is not respected and is seen as less that human, you will be seen in the same light – a nigger with crazy talent.

  6. Celts Fan says:

    @Fed. that’s not me man, that’s a fake CeltsFan. I guess they stopped doing you and started it w/ me (or just wanted to call himself CeltFan and didn’t know.) Don’t really care either way (and COMPLETELY disagree w/ dude on Obama and Hova.)

  7. BKS says:

    Would you still respect Lebron taking a stance, if his stance was for McCain?

    I’ve thought that Gilbert Arenas refraining from voting, may have something to do with that. It is entirely possible that he wants to vote for McCain, but is afraid of being labelled an “Uncle Tom”. So he cannot be true to himself because he feels he has to toe the company line, so to speak, and vote for the black guy.

    It is this reverse segregation that is truly troubling.

    Look at Daddy Yankee & Fat Joe…Daddy Yankee endorsed McCain, then a few days later Fat Joe said that the endorsement made him sick. Why? Because Daddy Yankee is able to make up his own mind based on his personal values and views?? If blacks/hispanics only allow themselves one way of thinking, one way of voting, or one way of acting…and to do otherwise would cause “Uncle Tom” backlash….how are any of us ever going to grow as a nation?

  8. YOUNGFED says:

    @The real Celts
    LMAO, copy cats galore. Dime yall gotta get on this.

  9. dukesman2000 says:

    I hate to have these type of discussions on a sports blog because we obviously come from different race, creed and religious beliefs, but we all have something in common – our love of basketball. But every time this issue comes up I am appalled by the responses.

    BKS…I see the only we can grow as a nation in your eye is for Black people to forget about what we’ve endured for more than 500 years and still enduring up ‘til this day. Have you seen a McCain rally recently? America does not want to be reminded of her utmost disregard for human rights but has no problem telling the afflicted, to forget about it. It is like when you go to the dentist and he shoots you up with the Novocain; your jaw bone could be broken from all the pulling and tugging, but you feel nothing because you are suffering peacefully. In this case the Novocain isn’t working. Contrary to popular beliefs, the only way we can grow as a nation is to first admit that there is problem and then discuss the issue. What will not work is this blind optimism of if we don’t pay attention to it or act as if it doesn’t exist, then maybe it’ll go away. That approach has not worked and it will never work.

  10. SWAT says:

    I would respect lebron if he voted for mccain. The issue that i had with Mj was tht he just didnt want to speak out for fear of losing endorsement deals. I mean but really you cant b mad at dude for that…look at John Carlos from the 68 olympics or better yet look at George foreman after his olympic win. Dude raised the american flag in the ring and caught backlash at home. IMO times have changed since then, times have even changed since MJ and i hope tht we would still post his rally dates even if he is for the other dude.

  11. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

    @ Dukesman

    LBJ DID NOT speak out about Human Rights while in the Olympics. Most of the USA team said they were going to, but yet NO ONE did.

  12. aj says:

    Dukesman

    My question is what does it take to get past “the 500 years ago” part? I’m not downplaying that and will never forget history so as to not make the same mistakes, but how does America move on?

    The Christian church still isn’t bitter at the romans for persecution. America isn’t still bitter at England for causing us to declare our independence because of what England was doing its the people in america.

    And what does McCain vs Obama have to do with race? Is one going to persecute and one liberate? No.

  13. weezy f says:

    the moon wasnt that great…but im voting obama hopefully my registration got in on time haha

    @celtsfan and youngfed

    dude didnt have a S it just said celtfan im that bored sorry

  14. yoda says:

    @dukesman2000

    are you sure lebron is doing this because obama is black, or because he likes what man has to say? but its good to see anyone, not just famous and rich, make a stand and support what they believe, especially young men and women.
    i’m from europe and i still live there, but i hope obama will win. for americas sake and for worlds sake. bush left sour taste in everyones mouth.

  15. rangerjohn says:

    dukesman, 1st you need to go look up the history of slavery, the 1st african slaves where brought over to SOUTH america in 1619 by the dutch. and the 1st africans where brought to the caribean and north america after 1627.

    now this election is absolutely about race, the candidates have not made it that way but the people (ignorant ones like dukesman). a poll was taken recently that said 9% of the obama suporters where voting for him because he was black, 6% said they would not vote for him because he was black. another poll was taken of the military, and of those polled, something along the lines of 82% of the black men where voting for obama, 90% of the black women where voting obama. while most people will say “i like him better, his politics his taxes” what ever, the color lines are CLEARLY drawn. driving through houston and and i can guarantee 95% of all obama stickers are on cars driven by a black person. (there are not a lot of either stickers really)

    conversely, there are a ton of white people with mccain stickers. while i personally have no issue with his color, i do not like obamas politics. at one point i said “give him a bit more experience and i might not have an issue with him getting elected” but as things have come out over the course of the last couple of months, never would i vote for him. regardless of his experience.

  16. dukesman2000 says:

    @Yoda

    It could be both. And what is wrong with Black people voting for Barack Obama because he is black? Black people have been denied jobs, paid less for the same work performed, denied loans or given at higher interest rates, pulled over, murdered by cops, prosecuted, persecuted, imprisoned unfairly for no other reasons other than their melanin. No one batted an eye at these injustices, because that is reality of the society in which we live. So now it seems a black man might be getting votes and positive support because of his skin color, everybody and his momma is crying foul.

    Look at that crazy McCain volunteer chick. Why didn’t she say a white Obama supporter mutilated her body? No she said a black man because she knew it would have been more believable, you know, only a black man can “deflower” an innocent white woman in such a savage manner. I live in predominantly white neighborhood in CT and decided to go for a walk (I don’t know what got into me) around my neighborhood, only to have two squad cars pull up next to me. The disgust was so apparent on my face the cop apologized to me and said they got a call about a mysterious black man in the area and they had to act on it. I just turned around and went home. I have lived there for 4 years now and I have never gone for walk since.

  17. rangerjohn says:

    dukesman
    i love the “militant” attitude you have, it only shows the ignorance in your mind. how about the fact that (acording to several obama team members) if i dont vote FOR obama i am a racist? it goes both ways. all that bs you are spewing is sooooo 1970’s (or even 1960’s). we have a guy here in hsouton called “quanell x” who runs “the new black panther party” and he is constantly on tv for what ever bs. well about a2 yrs ago, a black kid killed a cop (kid i mean 18 yrs old i still a kid) and ran. (something like the kid was driving with expired plates an the cop tried to pull him over and the kid ran, until he got cought and he shot the cop) well quanell talked the kid to coming to his house and letting him drive him to the court house. quanell drove (speeding) and refused to pull over when 5 police cars followed him. quanell never was charged even with speeding. no obsruction, no assisting an accused fellon nothing. no harboring, not a thing. while blacks have had issues in history, no doubt, things are not nearly as bad as SOME would make it out to be. how about this, my wife didnt get into college until a semester late because of quotas, they had to allow so many black students in before they could admit another white person. there are cases like this daily.

    so lets get off the “im black and i have been opressed” and get back to issues at hand.

    but then i must be a racist if i am not voting for obama.

    puuuuuulease!

  18. SWAT says:

    @rangerjohn ignorant people have run more rampant at mcain’s rally. terroist, kill him…blah blah blah all while palin has continued to encourage this type of behavior. Mccain-to me represents the worst that this country is. a punk ass can’t get right living off his daddy’s name. Dude crashed 3 planes while he was in the navy and this was before vietnam, he failed the basic test to even get in the navy but his daddy (who was a decorated war hero) pulled the strings to get him in. yes dude was a POW but he offered them his name and then all of a sudden he gets medical treatment. Do the research, he was not the only POW at that time, just the only one with an important name. However, i respect your opinion, because this being america we are all entitled to them, but to say dude is dukesman is ignorant because he’s for Obama or speaking his mind is wrong.

  19. Big T says:

    @dukesman

    “Black people have been denied jobs, paid less for the same work performed, denied loans or given at higher interest rates, pulled over, murdered by cops, prosecuted, persecuted, imprisoned unfairly for no other reasons other than their melanin”

    And no other race has been subject to these matters?

    “No she said a black man because she knew it would have been more believable, you know, only a black man can “deflower” an innocent white woman in such a savage manner”

    Again - do you know the underlying meaning behind these words, or are you simply assuming the worst case scenerio to fuel your insecurities?

    Honestly, who cares if Lebron and Jay Z endorse Obama for the next President - whether it’s race related or based on credentials. Racial influence shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone - hell, Jamal Tinsley could run for President with O.J. Simpson on the card, and possibly win, just because of racial/celebrity status.

  20. dukesman2000 says:

    RangerJohn

    Seriously, it is better for people to think you’re an idiot than for you to open your mouth (or in this case type) and prove them right. You said what I am spewing is 1970’s…are you serious? Who is the ignorant one here.

    I never said if someone doesn’t vote for Obama he or she is racist. Frankly, if you are rebuplican, you cannot vote democratic issues. You may or may not be a racist, I don’t know, but what I do know is that you are a nincompoop.

  21. Big T says:

    @SWAT

    Nobody called Obama a “terrorist” - stop reading the Starz magazine. Obama has associated with, and served on multiple boards with known terrorists and extremists. In order to make an educated decision on a leader, you need to know and understand their past relationships.

    @rangerjohn

    I agree with what you’re saying about the double standards. Affirmative action laws, school grants, the justice system… there are plenty of holes in the system. I can’t stand it when people use their race as a “crutch” to make excuses. So, I can relate to what you’re saying.

  22. dukesman2000 says:

    Big T

    You are the one with the insecurities. Either you live under a rock, in the Deep South or you are just being disingenuous. “If Jamal Tinsley was running with OJ on the ticket, they’d win.” Only a typical white asshole like would trivialize or discredit this historical moment in America’s history.

  23. Big T says:

    @ dukesman

    I’m a “typical white asshole”? Every post you make becomes more ignorant. I wish you the best of luck in getting through the smoke screen of racial injustices.

  24. Leonidas says:

    RangerJohn…

    Maybe the company had already filled their quota for retards so they could hire your wife

  25. Leonidas says:

    I mean’t college

  26. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

    OK first of all we really shouldn’t be dragging others wives into the convo.

    I know a lot of people who are voting one way or the other because of their race. I don’t agree with that, I think we need to look at the facts and base our decisions on facts. But that is only my opinion. If you vote great, you have the right to vote however you choose for what ever reason you choose.

    If you don’t vote (Agent Zero)or can’t vote(T.I.) then you should keep your mouth shut.

  27. Big T says:

    @Leonidas

    How long did it take you to come up with that?

    @Drink the Haterade

    I couldn’t agree more. We need to look at the past history of both candidates and make an educated choice, regardless of color.

  28. SWAT says:

    First off…thank you dime for the article today otherwise I would have been bored at work!
    big t
    obama said it himself during the last debate…he was 8 yrs old when dude was out there. and to qoute you “In order to make an educated decision on a leader, you need to know and understand their past relationships.” how well do you kno mccain? check his “war hero” stats son. and honestly instead of the media using this race issue to spread the republican propaganda no one is really talking about money, that we as taxpayers, paid to the washington mutual ceo for a failed bank. or the AIG reps taking a vacation in the hamptons after the bailout.

  29. BxBaller says:

    I guess DeShawn Stevenson won’t be going. :)

    Nah, but seriously, It’s great to see a young, influential, black man like LeBron using his celebrity for such a good and important cause. Im glad he’s not backing away from openly endorsing a candidate unlike Jordan’s & Tiger’s scared asses.

  30. jay says:

    hey i give respect to lbj..i dont fault mj but he did say at one point about backing a govornor race in chi-town..i rather not go there…republicans buy kix too! that iwll always stick with me! props to lebron for throwing his hat in the ring..both literally and figurively!

  31. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

    So hey did anyone see the NRA commercials they were showing this weekend?

    http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=5&q=http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3Dxzr_nlTi7-8&usg=AFQjCNFkPpxpwhSpG7l-Jp2nSUd_aqd9SA

    I hope I did this right. Anyways the commercials talk about that dude that breaks into your home and you shoot his ass, well Obama supposedly is for that guy that broke into your house and not for the home owner who shot his punk ass.

  32. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

    Just wondering who MJ was supposed to support? You guys keep talking about MJ didn’t support, but who didn’t he support? And just a question if a black man votes for a white man in this election does that make him a homer?

    Or someone that stands up for what he believes in?

  33. ldawg23 says:

    @ RangerJohn & Anyone else who thinks people use there RACE as a crutch

    Slavery was a long time ago..FAIR!!!! 1940-1950-1960-1970-1980-1990 arent that far off…AND in each decade you will find PLENTY of HATE crimes. Hell you still find them today. BECAUSE of those crimes, it REMINDS people of what life was LIKE back 300+ years ago…

    Now YES, some people use it has a crutch. NO DOUBT. However, many try to stand on their OWN TWO LEGS, and when those legs get kicked out from underneath them BASED on the color of their skin, they can WILL USE THAT CRUTCH to try and gain some leverage.

  34. BxBaller says:

    Did you guys here about some crazy ass mofos who were planning to assinate Obama.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081027/ap_on_el_pr/skinhead_plot

  35. mr.a says:

    @yoda,

    LeBron couldn’t possibly be voting for Obama’s tax policy, which would cause LeBron to lose 30% more of his income, by raising the highest-tax bracket to 50-65%. He has to be voting for Obama because he’s black. It’s common sense. People with a shitton money vote republican, people without vote democratic. Please, somebody, explain this to me??

  36. ldawg23 says:

    Well…Some people with MORE MONEY THAN THEY COULD EVER COUNT (LeBron) dont mind getting taxed and helping out. All of the celebs that endorse Obama (black & White) are some of the biggest contributors to fund raisers and stuff. So they don’t mind giving a little more on taxes, cause they ALREADY have so much…Do you think Bron getting taxed 2 mil makes a difference in his OVERALL worth??? Hell 10 mil, to Bron is prolly like, US losing 10 bucks extra in taxes one year

  37. rangerjohn says:

    Leonidas

    ok mother fucker, you can say all you want about me, no problem, we are MOSTLY all men here. you talk shit about my family, my wife, and you step over the line. you fucking keyboard warrior bitch. i will fuck you up, i will bring the fight to your door, so quickly and so hard you will never know what hit you. there will be no end to how hard i will end you.

    now that that piece of shit is over with, back to the discousion.

    living in houston, i run into the “race card” on a daily basis. IMO i see more people pulling the race card then i see trying to get a leg up.

    dukesman apparently you didnt read my whole posts, i never said YOU said i would be a racist if i didnt vote obama but some of his campaign members did.
    just a little info

  38. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

    Hey I want to interject that Hate Crimes do not just pertain to Blacks. There are hate crimes on white’s, hate crime on gays, hate crime on mexicans. So hate crimes can happen to all of us. So my question is how does that remind people of life 300 years ago?

  39. ldawg23 says:

    BottomLine…LIFE isnt fair….However, i dont mind “spreading the wealth” or anything like that. Some people have gotten screwed, and they need help. And its a SMALL price to pay a lil EXTRA in taxes, rather than getting robbed (family or friends) because someone needs help, and no one is willing to help them. If me paying more, stops them from ROBBING, SHIT im ALL FOR IT PIMPIN…hoarding money,isnt worth my life, or my families….

    CAN I GET A AMAN????

  40. mr.a says:

    @ldawg23

    Great! I’m happy that people with money are generous enough to give to charity. using taxes as wealth redistribution? I know it’s a McSame talking point… but thats on some Karl Marx shit right there. If a wealthy person has enough kindness in his/her heart to give to less fortunant, GREAT!

    the government is not a fucking charity…

  41. ldawg23 says:

    @ Drink the Haterade
    Why do hate crimes against blacks remind people of 300 years ago….
    Where gays, EVER slave’s, in this country? WHat about mexicans, or even whites???

    NOW the moment ANY group goes through a long period of UNJUSTICE and BIGOTRY, i BET, any type of crime agaisnt that group, WILL remind that group of the past.
    ASk the Jews how they feel in Germany????

  42. mr.a says:

    hahahahaha a LITTLE extra in taxes?

    My good sir, Obama is proposing a 30% tax increase. Just wait til he goes all Jimmy Carter (which is who he essentially is.. go look up Jimmy Carter’s rise to the Presidency) and starts taxing the Middle Class 40-50%.

  43. Dagomar says:

    Obama is not taxing 95% of Americans . . . he is advocating tax cuts for the vast majority of the population.

    By the way this post was maybe the worst I’ve read on Dime. Getting a gold medal putting a ball through a metal hoop is somewhat akin to landing on the moon, to risking life and limb in the pursuit of human advancement and exploration? What the fuck? And how exactly does being in space make you more qualified to decide who should lead a country?

  44. ldawg23 says:

    @mr .a
    The government ISNT a charity??? Didnt we just give a 700 Billion bailout to GREEDY wall street risk takers?
    We as a nation pay for EVERYTHING (middle/lower class)
    If spreading the wealth a lil bit gets us back on our feet, and stops people from being thrown outta there homes, and having enough to eat…SHIT im all for it

    There is currently no BALANCE, those with the money, WANT more, and keep getting it…All im saying is, i would rather give a little extra so the person on my left doesnt go to bed hungry. So your taxes go up a lil (i make REALLY good money by the way) i would rather give up One night of fast food, so the person on the side of me can eat for a week, at least a piece of bread.

    Your not gonna lose anything by not drinking Starbucks coffee, and having to get Mickey D’s coffee. Its still coffee homie.

  45. mr.a says:

    you’re obviously a marxist. Why punish people who work for their money, and reward people who don’t work as hard for their money? thats ridiculous.

    btw, i take issue with the bailout, also.

  46. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

    You didn’t specify blacks and why are we even taking about anybody being oppressed? That was 300+ years ago. No one on this site even knows somebody that was a slave, so really it’s a mute point.

    Lets say that I go walking down the streets of Compton and get beat down cause I’m white, is that not a hate crime? and then I could say well it reminds me of life 20 years ago. Guess what ain’t nobody gonna give a shit.

    Look at the American Indians they were here long before anyone else and guess what their land was taken from them. Oh but I don’t hear them bitchin.

    You know they have groups in High School that are called Black Student Union– You have to African American to get in or of descent. That’s not considered racist. But let them have a White Student Union and that all of sudden is racist. How is that?

  47. ldawg23 says:

    @mr .a
    Im not saying give it to ANYONE…Im not for giving money to those who SIT AROUND, HAVE BABIES, and not try to better themselves

    HOWEVER, there are a lot of people OUT THERE who need help. If you set up a system, that makes sure THOSE WHO TRY to get help and DESERVE to get help, can get help. Thats what i want.
    Those people who only make 6 bones and hour, but EVERYTHING around them keeps going up in.THEY NEED HELP.
    Older people who CANT work, but did work for many years, and cant AFFORD the rising cost of EVERYTHING, THEY NEED HELP.

  48. Leonidas says:

    @RangerJohn..

    Haha…

    Fight you? I like my chances.

  49. ldawg23 says:

    You dont hear from the Native Americans because they have been SILENCED…Land, Casino’s and liqour…And im not saying that to be a dick…But giving liqour to a group of people IS the best way to silence them….

    Hate crime is a HATE CRIME….no one is BETTER or WORSE than others….But You asked a question. I told you the answer…. You dont HAVE TO LIKE the answer. But thats the reality. Pretend to not see it all you want.

  50. Diego says:

    Let’s put an end to all this political discussion for a few weeks, please! Particularly, you diehard Republicans who just won’t let it end. (By the way, I am a Republican, very educated white guy who makes a lot of money, who will vote for Obama.) All these links generally are biased, the tax discussion is annonying (I am a tax lawyer, I know my taxes–all politicians pander about lower taxes, blah, blah, blah–taxes unfortunately are necessary to run a country), the race stuff, etc. Yes, Obama has a lot of black vote, but most blacks likely would vote Democrat anyway; yes, McCain likely has most of the very conservative white vote, that would vote Republican anyway. (By the way, I live in metropolitan Atlanta and LOTS of white folks here–in the city–have Obama signs.)

    One simple reason (among others) I like Obama is that he is just a much smarter guy then McCain. (Please don’t argue with this: Harvard law (President of the law review, I believe!) > bottom of class in a military academy.) Nothing personal. I would prefer a very smart person running my country, please. Oh, and by the way, Obama is of mixed race, half black, half white. (Yes, I know you know this.)

  51. antitombo says:

    i dunno didn’t ranjajohn drag his own wife into the discussion? by that logic shouldn’t the cacorro do us all a favor and beat the shit out of himself?
    just a thought

  52. rangerjohn says:

    Leonidas says:

    @RangerJohn..

    Haha…

    Fight you? I like my chances.

    bring it on bitch!!!
    i didnt spend 4 yrs as an army ranger, serving this country, to come home, marry my wife (who is hispanic), to have to put up with pussies like you. where you from? cause you might want to call the cops, there is gonna be a hate crime commited. when its said and done, you will wish you never mentioned my wife in a post.

    and if you think i am just talking shit to pass the time, you better do some checking. i aint fucking with you, we are not friends who can bullshit. SON YOU BETTER BACK THE FUCK UP AND RETHING YOUR WORDS BEFORE YOU POST, or tell me where you are and i will find you.

    fucking keyboard warriors FUCK!!!!!!!!!!

    now back to one point, obama is planning on helping 95% of america right? so we are going to give an EXTRA $1000 to people who do not even pay taxes? ldog23, so you are a tax guy right? so what is it called when you give people who dont pay taxes at all a part of YOUR money? they dont even pay into the system? and you want to give them more?

    hateraid, i agree completely, i am so tired of people dropping the “300+ yrs of opression” when they have shit like BET. if white people started a white entertainment televison, there would be 10000 people outside until it closed down.

    and to all the “blacks where the only slaves”, hmmm better go check your history, chinese, japanese, korean, jewish, irish, to name a few. hell the irish wehre slaves hundreds of years before people even knew north america was here. (i am of irish decent by the way and we do not claim that duechebag scalibrini) hell even after the irish came to america they where enslaved. sure they where not beaten like a black slave, but they where slaves none the less. go look up current events, chinese, vietnamese, cambodian, thai, 99% of all asian countries are still using slavery, both in their country and ours.

    it is time to let up on all that. as hateraid said, who here actually knows someone who was a slave? if your daddy’s daddy’s daddy’s daddy’s daddy’s daddy was a slave to thomas jefFerson, well YOU DONT HAVE A CASE!

    several of you know a little about me, you might know my grandfather was a POW in ww2. he was a bataan death march survivor. he spent 4 yrs in japanese control. he was a SLAVE working in copper mines for the mitubishi company. copper mines that where deamed “unsafe for japanese workers” so they used slave labor to mine them instead. he was fed 1 bowl of rice per day and less then 1/2 gallon of water per day. men died nearly by the hour. he was burried alive and left for 2 days wondering if he would be dug up. when he was dug up he was beaten for not SCREAMING AND CRYING ENOUGH! now that is slavery!

    the man never owned a single item made by mitsubishi his entire life, he died 2 yrs ago christmas eve at the age of 86 yrs.

    How exactly is Harvard Law considered far and away better than graduating Annapolis? Didn’t Punk from I Love New York graduate Harvard law?? How smart can he be if he was chasing after that warthog?

    And how does everyone assume that MJ and Tiger are voting Democrat and just not broadcasting it? Seems to me that it would be MUCH more difficult for the 2 of them to reveal their Republican vote. You’d get so many people screaming “Uncle Tom.” I say this because you look at Lebron, a 23 year old black male. If I put a gun to your head and told you to guess how he was going to vote, you would say Democrat. I’m sure there are no Republicans that are shocked/hurt to find out that Lebron is supporting Obama. However, if he were supporting McCain, the backlash would be absolutely nasty.

    So don’t criticize MJ or Tiger for not publicly supporting a cause, when you know damn well you would criticize them tenfold if they held beliefs different than what you assume.

  54. BKS says:

    And it’s likely these political discussions will stop when Dime stops with all of their Obama cheerleading posts….you don’t see an argument about abortion laws breaking out in their posts about Tony Allen’s pinkie ring.

    The white equivalent of BET have been around for a long time: all the major networks. They just look a little different right now because they’ve started having brown and black hosts. And I’m not even talking Fox yet.

    Quote:

    “And to all the “blacks where the only slaves”, hmmm better go check your history, chinese, japanese, korean, jewish, irish, to name a few. hell the irish wehre slaves hundreds of years before people even knew north america was here.”

    Back this up with facts….When were Chinese slaves? When were Koreans slaves? Who were the Jews slaves of (you want to go back all the way to the old testament? Is that what you are implying?) When were the Japanese slaves?

    Quote:

    “Go look up current events, chinese, vietnamese, cambodian, thai, 99% of all asian countries are still using slavery, both in their country and ours.”

    You sound really misinformed here; so don’t go around asking others to look up “current events.” How do “asian countries” use slavery in the USA?

    Quote:
    “several of you know a little about me, you might know my grandfather was a POW in ww2. he was a bataan death march survivor. he spent 4 yrs in japanese control. he was a SLAVE working in copper mines for the mitubishi company. copper mines that where deamed “unsafe for japanese workers” so they used slave labor to mine them instead. he was fed 1 bowl of rice per day and less then 1/2 gallon of water per day. men died nearly by the hour. he was burried alive and left for 2 days wondering if he would be dug up. when he was dug up he was beaten for not SCREAMING AND CRYING ENOUGH! now that is slavery!”

    The conditions that your grandfather had to live through during the war mirror the conditions that the slaves had to endure in this country—for generations! I wonder why you can’t empathize. Now I’m not black and I’m not white. And it’s all beside the point anyway. We have to first accept that this country has seen a lot of shit, and then we have to find a way to heal–not find all sorts of convoluted ways to defend our bigotry. It’s so easy to say I’m not racist etc;…(yeah, I can use the same proofs as you have done to prove that I’m not a racist; my wife is white; and most of my girlfriends have been white!), but that’s not enough. I get tired of the “I’m not a racist because I have…friends; I’m not a racist because I’m married to a…” shit. Sorry, that doesn’t cut it. Hell, Lou Dobbs is married to a Mexican American!

  56. rangerjohn says:

    read up buddy, modern day slavery is everywhere

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_day_slavery

    and yes the jews where slaves to egypt, they where slaves to the germans, they have been even more pursecuted then the blacks.

    the irish and scotish where slaves to the english and norse for generations before north america was even discovered.

    the chinese, japanese and other asian countrymen where slaves in the 1800’s working/dieing on the railroads, mineing, and so on. the irish where enslaved upon coming here as well.

    and i do not use the fact that my wife is hispanic as an “im not racist” i used it as a point of the quotas in some places (texas a&m for this one) apply ONLY to the black population and not to all “minorities”.

    i agree with bks, these conversations would end if dime would stop with the bias posts. while somewhat on point of basketball (that is a stretch in some cases) they are obviously bias toward the half african candidate.

  58. dukesman2000 says:

    @RangerJohn…

    When you speak of those other races, ethnic and religious groups being persecuted, you use past tense. When anyone speaks of the Black Race’s tribulations they use the present tense. Again, dude, wisdom and understanding can never be too much, so I suggest you lift the wool from over your eyes and see things for what they are. Then again, I do not expect you to share the same sensitivities as me or any other black person because you are not black.

    You said your wife is Hispanic, so that gives you a free pass to say you are not prejudice (even though you said you weren’t using it on that basis), news flash Hispanic do not consider themselves black. I had a discussion with a Hispanic guy and girl, Dominican and Ecuadorian respectively. I asked them what race they are and they said Hispanic. I informed them that Hispanic is not a race but in fact an ethnic (i.e. cultural, or national) group. So with that being said, I asked what race do you belong to, they both said “Then I guess I am white then” Mind you, both these people are as black as tar. So a Hispanic person would choose any other color on the color spectrum to associate him or herself with other than black. I am not bashing these people because they are friends of mine but that level of ignorance is wide spread throughout the Hispanic culture. So, it is understood that us agreeing on anything is like chasing the horizon, so let’s get back to talking basketball.

  59. Leonidas says:

    @RangerJohn…

    Don’t come to me with that Ranger shit. I served in two branches in the military so I know just like in the civilian world, there are pussies in the military too. I live in a state where the second amendment is upheld to the fullest, that’s why when I hear your silly threats, I say I “like my chances against you.”

    And for boot, I will say it again, your wife is a retard.

  60. rangerjohn says:

    well dukesman,

    never once did i say anything prejudice, i only state the facts, blacks get more rights IN SOME SITUATIONS then i do as a white person. never said anything about hispanics being black either. you need to read entire posts and stop with the selectives.

    Leonidas

    lmao fucking keyboard warrior, to much of a pussy to speak up, afraid i will show up. yeah here in HOUSTON we have those same 2nd amendment rights. if you want to go that far so be it but then you are nothing more then an internet tough guy. you want to talk shit about my wife, thats ok, she is a good woman, a smart woman, a hard working woman, all thigns your sister i mean wife would know nothing about. is it hard for you when your kids call you uncle daddy? i bet its not that hard is it? hell i bet it reminds you of your child hood right. tell your hard working wife to get off the street corner and come inside its getting cold and the holes in those nasty fishnets she is wearing are prolly showing the hairs since she forgot to shave this month.

    so you served huh lmao what in the navy, where the men are men and the sheep are scared? (no offense to those other who have actually served)

    sorry but pussies are washed out during R.I.P. go look it up, maybe you will learn something.

    to everyone else on DIME i appologise for the attitude lately, i have been sick, and pieces of dog shit like this guy just drive me over the edge, there is nothing worse then a pussy behind a monitor talking shit because he knows he cant be found.

    WELL BOY you think you have been oppressed so far, lets get it on and we will see how bad it gets.

    fucking tough guys? holy shit they pop up from everywhere then run and hid just as quick

  61. rangerjohn says:

    dukesman, one last thing, EVERYBODY is prejudice i dont care who they are or what they do, we all have that inside.

    and as for speaking of the past, once again go look at the entire post, read the link, (it happens to be about MODERN DAY SLAVERY, and other then in africa it speaks little of blacks)

    hell my wife is from guatemala, and we go there about 3 times a year, there are people in near slavery there all over the country.

    i have respect for the people who have to live with it, but while some blakcs in america today have SOME complaints, the majority do not. in some areas things are worse, here in houston there is a large black population, i have friends who are cops and i see (through them) a lot of the things that go on in this town. i hear how it is “easier to make money illegaly then to get a real job” and then the same guy gets pissed off and claims “racial profiling” and all that jazz out the other side of his mouth. we (white people) do not push these men and women to sell drugs or what ever, they do this of their own free will.

    i wonder how you guys feel about this, about 6-9 months ago a white man called 911, his neighbors house was being robbed, and only the woman of the house was home. the man (with 911 on the phone) went outside told the men to stop, one pulled out what was believed to be a weapon, and he shot them both, killing them. so i ask, was he in the right? one man was an illegal alien, the other was black. they broke the law, he went to investigate, felt threatened, and reacted. the entire black community protested on his street for MONTHS. he has a concieled hand gun license and was never even charged with a crime.

    or this one, a white man in chicago was robbed, the next night the same man broke in to his house with a gun and a mask, the man shot the intrudor and killed him. now the way i see it, (and he way the law is here in texas) he broke into a mans home, with intent to steal or injury, the man defended his family, OBAMA voted 4 times to prosecute that man.

    loenidASS claims his state has greatly upheld 2nd ammendment rights, not if obama is elected, he wasts to take your gun rights away from you, so only the criminals will have them.

  62. Big T says:

    I’d like to attend the hate crime festivities when you go visit Leonidas. Navy? If I were a betting man, I’d assume he joined the National Guard. Myself, I’ve done plenty of covert operations as a recon marine. Go ahead and drop by Idaho to pick me up. ;)

    @dukesman

    Black people aren’t socially oppressed like you want to believe. They have alot of tools and resources available to them to make a better life - especially at the collegiate level. And news flash, racist targets are of all nationality, even today… that’s just the world we live in. I think you have read too many black panther and Malcolm X literature, and don’t understand the current structure in the United States. African special interest groups have opened up alot of opportunities for you - so, I’d recommend you do some positive research, instead of sniffing around for ethnic injustices.

    Dude, the only thing you can beat me in is roping cows. Your wife is Hispanic, you live in Texas, is she Mexican? Don’t let me call ICE on your ass…Haha…I am just joking dude.

  65. dukesman2000 says:

    Big T.

    I honestly do not think you believe the things you are saying. You said there are resources available to help black people. I guess you are talking about Affirmative Action and so forth. So don’t you believe that the basic fact that those type “resources” need to be implemented tells you that shit is fucked up? Why you as white man are considered human being the moment you are born but legislations have to written for black people to be considered and treated like one?

    Will you let a blind man show you how to cross the street? Well, it’s the same as you, a white man, telling me, a black man how to be black or how to think. How impertinent!!! Like I said you have your convictions and you will not see things for the way they are. Nonetheless, it is a good conversation, though you might not agree with me or think I am reading to much black literature, at least you know how what goes through the mind of a black man. Whatever that is worth!!!

    a question, who exactly do you KNOW that was ever a slave? who in YOUR family has been a slave? dont give me some long lost cousin was a slave in 1802, in virginia working on a tobacco cash crop for the white man. you see your analogy is so far off it makes no sense. so i get this right, if i know someone who has been raped (like one of my best friends in highschool was) then i should know how other women who were raped feel? that is like you as a black person, feel because some person you have never known, 200 yrs ago was a slave? man that logic is fundamentally flawed and makes so little sense i dont even think you believe it.

  70. YGB says:

    @ Ranger boy. You still talking shit? Do you ever stop? Lolz. I want your wife to suck me dry.

  71. rangerjohn says:

    i find it really funny how you internet pussies like to talk shit and get all bent out of shape over the fact that i am not voting obama and i think voting for obama is the worst mistake any person can make in the voting booth.

    fucking duechebags everywhere.

    so to answer your question, YGB (does that stand for YEP GOOFY BITCH?) i am still talking shit and will until the end, and by the way, tell your mom i said where the fuck is my money bitch!!!

  72. Big T says:

    @dukesman

    Why do you think affirmative action was put into place? I’d like to hear your logic behind this. The way affirmative action currently stands, it keeps more qualified people out of a job because of their race - black, white, whatever. The best man should get the job, and if there’s a clear-cut case of racism, then it should be addressed with the Business Bureau.

    You’re partially correct that amendments to certain legislature have been added, so there’s less room for interpretation. Meaning, people can’t find loop-holes to get away with unjust behavior. Nevertheless, there are injustices that can be found with all races. I believe certain special interest groups just make their rants more public and personal than others - as they thrive off the media attention to light a fire under everyone.

    One other thing to think about - as a white male, I’ve never once considered organizations designed to help their culture to be racist. For example, the UNCF (United Negro College Fund)… designed to help young African Americans get a better education and succeed in life. Great. However, if there was a White College Fund, what would your thoughts be? When I initially attended the University of Southern California I was fishing for grants/money to help me out with tuition and books. After talking with my counselor my freshman year, I could only apply for 9 out of a list of 5,000 nationwide opportunities. I skimmed through the majority of the possibilities and they were all race/gender specific - in which I hardly qualified. So, you see these type of behaviors and realize it’s not just Blacks/Hispanics/Asian people that don’t get equal opportunity… it’s everyone in general. I just take it for face value and move on because that’s all we can do at the end of the day.

    Needless to say, we’re not going to agree on this topic because we’ve encountered different things in our life, but like you said, it’s still a good discussion.

  73. Big T says:

    @Idawg23

    Here’s the deal with slavery. My ancestors(Irish) were slaves to the British for centuries. Yes, I could hold a bitter grudge against every British person I encounter, or I can understand we’ve evolved in a positive manner since those times. Sure, mistakes were made… different cultures were slandered and abused (some more than others), but guess what - things have gotten better. Not everything needs to be viewed in a negative aspect.

    We can’t re-write history, but we can definitely help write the future.

  74. YGB says:

    @ Ranger Boy. Go ahead & keep talking shit. I would humilate your fat ass. Your behind the internet talking shit. And as far as your wife’s concerned she better get in that kitchen and make me some damn food. Lmao

  75. rangerjohn says:

    BIG T

    i find it interesting, that we both share similar views on these things, it is funny how people blame us (white people) for their failure, all the while overlooking the failures of white people as well. it is amazing how narrow minded people can be, all the while telling us how narrow minded we are.

    YGB,

    LMAO good try man, you are one funny bitch! my fat ass lmao holy shit man how did you know i was fat? you must be able to see right through the computer. yep i am fat all right, got fat off the sweat of YOUR ancestors! better get your ass back in the field and pick me some god damn cotton, the bill gots to be paid. its to bad your mom doesnt know how to swollow at least then the world would be less one more duechebag.
