NBA 2K9Just so you guys know, NBA Live ‘09 AND NBA 2K9 dropped today. If you’re a basketball fanatic like us then the upcoming weeks won’t be too productive for you either. We have played both games and they both are dope.
Both games look awesome and the technology in both titles is serious. Now with XBOX Live or Playstation Online you can update both games. So let’s say LeBron drops 50, his shooting attributes will go up on the game. Just how Manu Ginobili is hurt right now, he’ll be hurt on the game. Different from the days of Pacman huh?

i think you should try 2k once. most ppl (not everyone) were once live players but have converted to 2k after trying it once. even if that means you have to rent it at some rental place. just try it out.

I used 2 be a live person but I got live 08 & 2k8 last year and 2k killed it and I just got 2k9 late last nite at the 24hour walmart and it is the shit I haven’t played live yet but 2k is a must buy in my book.

I stuck with live for so long until last year. I bought both of them and NBA Live 08 was a let down. I’m a 2k man now, but I will rent live just to see if they are making improvements. If you buy 2k you won’t regret it.

I found NBA 2K7 and have never looked back.

Lay off the joints big dog. Do you even know what 2k is like? Cause theres no way you can say live is sim and 2k is cartoony, that’s like saying Mike Tyson is smart and Jessica Alba is ugly as shit, you don’t know wtf u be saying. The only thing live was better at last year was graphics, but this year 2k is realistic looking as shit, the motions are still smooth as always.

I mean.. anyone who has played the 2k series.. Live fan or not can not argue that 2k is arcade style.
In fact alot of Live users complained that 2k was too realistic and not as fun/easy as live.

I bought live since 2002 but just switched to 2k9 this year. The graphics from Live are much better (faces, jerseys) but the shot animations, crowd, and gameplay much better in 2K. 2K is hard to get used to the cross-over moves since it’s so different from Live’s freestyle control. But 2K9 is pretty good other than that.

While I’m not one to spout the specifics on these certain games, it’s a pretty well known fact throughout the industry that the Live series is more arcade-esque, as opposed to 2k series (more simulation). The only way I can (mis)construe that into an ‘opinion’ is if your real-life game is uptempo and relies on chance rather than actual shot selection.

last year i got live and it sucked it was a dunk fest lets say it was nba jam 5 on 5. got 2k8 after and i still dont like the dribbling moves to be on the same analog stick as moving i found it to uncomfortable plus the fact that i hate garnett is going to bring me back to live.

live 2007 and 2008 were just arcade games. i switched over to nba2k7, played both games in 08, but siwtched to nba2k8 for the one and only reason: it´s the most realisitc game out there. as i live in germany, i preordered the game last night and hope it arrives friday or saturday. i´ll give u my feedback.

I’ve all about 2K for 9 years now. Put the oop in, made it not so invincible, had combo cross moves, isolated low post moves, shot stick…you cannot beat it. I don’t care if you can control the dunk and break people with handles in Live. I haven’t cared about NBA LIVE since I was bombing threes with Rodman, playing with no fouls in Live 98. Live was the ish then, no longer.
Oh, and thanks to everyone for bombing on the Live Realism fan. He was wrong. I’m glad everyone here realizes it.

Yo 2k9 IS SIIICK….oh my gosh they fixed all the faces; looks mad realistic. And their attention to detail is rediculous. In garbage time, some no name hits a deep 3, and they put the cameras on KOBE SITTING ON THE BENCH TO SHOW HIS REACTION TO THE SHOT. He was doing that cocky head-nod thing he does. That was so sick I dropped my controller laughing. Great job

dayam… went to three different places to get a copy of 2k9 and it was sold out at all those places (Target, Toys R Us, GameStop). They all had plenty of Live 09 though. I think I’ll wait for 2k9 though. HA!

You guys are sleeping on Live. I’vs owned both 2k and Live over the years, and its no doubt that 2k has SMACKED Live the last two seasons, but Live came CORRECT this season. I’ve played the demo for both games, and I picked Live. (Picked it up yesterday). I’m probably gonna pick 2k later on.

Ive been playing Live since it came out in 95. I’m a hard core gamer but also a hard core basketball player. I guess I could see why all you gamers like 2k but as a real ball player trust me Live is the sim. They give you way more control over what you can do on the court. You have to release the shot at the right point or it doesn’t go in. Where as with 2k all there shots are some pre set animation that the computer does for you. With live if you want to dunk you dunk. With 2k you don’t know if it’s gonna be some weak ass lay up or a dunk because they only have one button for everything. Live has the rights to Synergy sports this year which is what the NBA uses in real life to track the way the real players play. So game Kobe doesn’t just look and play like Kobe in real life…he is fuckin Kobe. And what about the set up before the shot? Live gives you the option to switch from triple threat position to face up or fake the first step…this is something you can’t do in 2k and everyone who has played in real life knows this is one of the basic components on offense to getting your shot off or taking your man.

For anyone who still has the PS2 (like me) both games are available and are only $30. I bought Live at WalMart at midnight and was very disappointed. Starting last year it doesn’t have the camera angles I like and the overall gameplay is just lacking. It does have a lot of great features like that new DNA feature and Be A Pro. It also seems like they set the rosters (both NBA and FIBA) in May and the player ratings are kind of weird (good players with low ratings and mediocre players with high ratings). So I went out and bought 2K9. Not a lot has changed since last year, but at least they get the player ratings right and the gameplay is much smoother than Live. The only thing I don’t like is the new NBA.com menu on the Association.

I’ve played bother series’ of games, and I like Live better. I owned 2k7 and I didn’t like it. I haven’t played a version of Live that I haven’t liked yet. I know there were a couple years where 2k was better, but I always go back to Live.

Fact is.. live sucked for the pass 3 or more years and was really a arcade, dunk, 3point shoot for all with no real defense.
keep in mind.. how many faetures that were in live. that comes and goes?.. 2k is already the top game. EA knows that!.. they are just trying to keep up!

NBA 2K9 is the best basketball video game I’ve ever played. My boy bought Live this year and I went with 2K again. Live is garbage compared to 2K this year. Live just can’t compete right now. I feel a lot of EA Sports series are severely lacking and have been since 01-03ish. EA is lazy and has just been relying on their brand name to sell shit. Funk that!
